Hello, as a rogue player, I would like to understand the reasoning behind setting Mutilate’s energy cost at 40. This adjustment seems to disadvantage other specs significantly. It’s challenging to justify choosing Sinister Strike/Saber Slash over Mutilate when Mutilate deals more damage and generates 2 CP compared to 1, all for the same energy cost.
Additionally, Rune Slaughter from the Shadows is DEAD for both pvp and pve. Rune does = reducing the energy cost of Backstab and Ambush by 20, seems counterproductive.
Backstab deals 150% weapon damage plus 90, but only generates 1 CP and requires positioning behind the target.
Mutilate deals 100% weapon damage with both weapons, plus an additional [100 / 100 * (5.741530 - 0.255683 * Level + 0.032656 * Level * Level)], and provides a 20% bonus against Poisoned targets. with 2 CP
I’m struggling to understand the rationale for this change. If the goal was to address Mutilate’s perceived weakness, adjusting the numbers to find a balance could be a more effective solution. Plese just increasing the energy cost back to 60 while boosting the damage output could provide a better compromise.
Ultimately, I hope for adjustments that promote more variability in gameplay and allow players to enjoy a wider range of choices.

I’d rather see mutilate nerfed and envenom get buffed instead to compensate. Mutilate currently is so brainless that I keep seeing rogues skip out on finishers and even stealth to just straight up mutilate in PvP. Its really cringe. Personally I’d also give it a positional requirement, like in TBC. Hell, if it does get a positional requirement, I’d be really tempted to roll a rogue because of how fun I found mutilate back in original TBC. I know you babbies are gonna whine about that though.
Dude , reason mutilate got buffed is couse our Runes for pve are non existant. Without mutilate buff u would had gone backstab this phase. You dont have to play mutilate , go saber and gl
I’d rather see the iconic backstab rogues that require some skill rather than rogues mutilating without ever pressing a finisher and feeling like they shouldn’t even go into stealth because its more efficient to mutilate for combo points rather than do an opener

Slaughter isn’t dead it’s really good with imp ambush in pvp. Backstab will still be a thing whenever poisons aren’t viable. If anything backstab needs to be buffed, rogues do middle of the road damage in both pvp and pve, it would be nice if there were alternatives like a rune for backstab perhaps making it scale with bleeds (like in cata) or a rune for hemo would be cool.
no it is… you want quickdraw. at p1 you can justify to take Slaughter for burst damage. now its just waste… multilate + quickdraw was better in pvp in p1 too, but now with that buff for multilate is much better.
- ambush damage is not much higher then multilate damage.
and backstap is significantly weaker.
if you wanna waste rune and 3 talents for crit change that gives you like 15% more damage then multilate ok…
