Hi, guys.
Which class would you prefer more in case of a solo player. Mained both of them some time in the past and don’t know which would be better for me right now.
I won’t be rading, that’s for sure, and for the most of the time I’ll be playing alone( world quests and horrific visions) and i want to do that as well as possible, without running in dps offspec .
But I also want to try and get back to mythic+ and bgs as well. Right now I’m really torn between those two. Thanks for any input
MW Monk has high dmg and survivability the paladin has it too and both work well to solo with. I’d say go for with one with the flavor you like the most!
Understood, thank you!
Haven’t played too much holy paladin, but as a MW main I can definitely say MW is really strong in PVP and mythic keys. I’d say the only weaknesses you have is lack of defensive CD’s (for allies), no spammable AoE healing (unless you swap out your jade serpent statue for refreshing jade wind, but I haven’t tested it out too much to be able to tell which one is better overall), and mana management (which has thankfully been made much easier thanks to the memory of lucid dreams essence). But in terms of single target healing, I found MW to be the most reliable, at least in my opinion.
PS: Sorry if I’m late, hope this helps though
Being aware that you’re asking a lot of your character… It is possible to get through visions as a solo healer, but I’ve seen no compelling evidence that it is even close to being as efficient as speccing dps for it. My personal measure is that mob health is reduced by 40%, but my dps drops by about 60%. This is not a favourable situation. I’m sure I could get through with no masks, but it will be needlessly slow and painful. You also need to be sure you’re running dps trinkets and you’ll end up pulling around their cooldown. You’ll probably find you’re mandated to use Conflict & Strife essence major to have Way of the Crane.
Holy paladin burst output can be surprisingly high, but again you’re kind of tied to cooldowns. Survivability is arguably higher; monks are quite tanky as healers go, but paladins are wearing plate armour and shields so…
In either case, surviving the damage of visions won’t be a problem; killing things before you run out of sanity will.
That aside, in all other regards; I personally favour monk for the mobility. Chi Torpedo and Ring of Peace can get you out of all sorts of horrible situations, and I love the theme and aesthetic. Once you have Ban Lu, you don’t want to ride anything else and all other class mounts look a bit tepid
Simple answer Paladin
Paladins dmg is insane, you can giga pull in visions and just burst everything down with bubble and wings.
Paladins damage is allot higher then mw, they also got better survivability
When it comes to M+ you can do fine with both but Paladins are just a bit better and you will find it easier to get invites.
Paladins are also the top healer in raids atm.
I’d say the weakness of Paladin is how bad they are when their cd’s are down
The weakness of MW is their mana.
And this is not bias, my main is a monk.
I mained a mistweaver monk for most of BFA until 8.3, where I changed to paladin. Here’s why :
(speaking for M+ as you don’t want to raid)

Paladins have better tank and general group utility. - You can Sacrifice your tank which is a very strong defensive CD, much stronger than Cocoon is. It is 2 minutes CD, however if you have stacked ineffable truth corruption, you can get it as a 1 minute CD. Aura mastery in combination with Devotion Aura is a really, REALLY strong CD for m+ and vastly understimated. Let us not even start on Wings + HA.

Paladin has a ridiculous amount of damage as a healer. And no matter what people say, monks CAN and ONLY will rival it in big pulls, but only for 15 seconds (True, your group can barely die in this time window as your healing is also off the charts as well as damage during this window), however at the cost of a big chunk of your mana. You will have to drink almost after every trash pack, especially on Grievous weeks, which MAY cost you some time if you require your group to wait you for 2-3 sec every time (unless you use fish feast). If you run a paladin with The Formless Void major and have a player (like a DH for example) running Focusing iris major, you can steal that and Mimic a monk’s burst in aoe. Combine that with your wings + spreading glimmers on enemies + consecration => you OVERALL do more damage than a monk. Always.

Paladin is currently Godlike level healer in terms of raw hps output. There is literally no ground to equalize paladins and the rest of the healers. Why you ask? Simple. INEFFABLE TRUTH. If you stack 7-8 pieces of that, paladin becomes a God of War character. You become RIDICULOUS. If you get good procs, you can get wings back up by the time it runs out from your previous use and have an insane uptime on it. I usually have like above 60% uptime on wings every dungeon run. And that is a lot.
When Ineffable procs, your Holy Shock has no CD (Except the global cd). You can literally keep everyone alive at the same time, while taking ridiculous amounts of damage. I have had groups in keys above 20 fail miserably and me still being able to keep them up with 150k+ constant HPS on a pack, or whatever.
There is literally no basis to compare paladins to other healers right now in mythic+, except utility-wise. Healing-wise you have one absolute dominance in the face of paladins. Utility-wise, paladins have good defensive CDS, but druid has good utility kit that works SO well in dungeons, that people are taking them ONLY because of that. Healing-wise they are not much different than all the other healers in M+. But paladin is. It brings Giga damage and healing to the group. I am not being biased, just speaking the truth.
But unless you aim to push keys above 20 you would never have to worry that much about all those things, so just play what you LOVE, not what is the most OP right now. The point is to have fun, don’t forget that, you might not enjoy paladin playstyle but enjoy monk, the two are very, very different.
Mhmm, does not sound biased even a little bit.
As much as I love Mistweaver the answer is currently Paladin all the way.
Current Holy Paladin is one of the most OP healer wow has ever had and current Mistweaver is clearly undertuned and underperforming. Both are good in solo content but holy paladin can nuke enemies while healing very easily thanks to glimmer of overpoweredness while switching its brain off while the mistweaver needs to manage a dps and a healer rotation at the same time just to keep a really weak-ish hot.
Also Paladin is very tightly tuned like Druid and Priests can be whereas Monks is very famous for never being updated or touched unless it’s to nerf it to the ground because it becomes too popular (look at what happened in 8.3).
I main a MW myself, and I really can’t relate to anything you just said besides Paladins being a favorite in m+.
