Why is there a limit in the first place? I can’t think of any good reason. And why can’t you even see how many quests you have nowadays, or am I blind?
Looks at talents
Wait, I didn’t get any new talents? nor did any previously unavailable get available. close the talent window
”A new PVP talent is available ” angry gnome noises
I mean… I have gear for 3 different specs, plus a 4th set for alternative healing talents. Also several items with corruptions and a corresponding one without so I can mix and match the best combo out of what I have when an upgrade drops.
Then there’s cauldrons, food, flasks and potions for every spec, and a bit of whatever I’m gathering for the guild bank, plus the odd flopping fish or similar comedy item.
So yeah, I typically have 10-12 bag slots free and I would really like a better storage mechanism TYVM. And please, for the love of beer, no more grey items! I don’t need another 15 variants of broken cogs!
Sadly, this is not really an option i have on all of my characters. My Demon Hunter DPS alt here is totally fine speccing tank without changing any gear…the same is not true for my Warrior or my Priest.
As a DPS Warrior (Arms) you cannot do all of the Group-Bosses in Invasions solo, you just don’t have the sustainability. So tank it is. And no, i cannot really get a group together because…
a) Blizzard did not put an “eye” on that quest, so no easy premades
b) i play late at night on a low-pop realm. There is litterally NOBODY in the zones when i play
c) Creating a custom premade does not work well because of the 10 different languages in europe and most of the time i could auto-attack a 10M HP creature to death in tank spec before anybody applies to a perfectly fine english titled custom premade anyway. Having the playerbase split between WM OFF/ON does not help.
So here goes 1h+shield as minimum…and since warrior tanks have the lowest self-sustain of all tanks i cannot really skip Azerite either for mobs that actually hit hard.
So that’s 5 slots minimum. And that is without any kind of secondary stat optimisation or trinkets.
As a Healing Priest it is even worse. I wanded and later smited mobs to death for more than 10 years - i no longer have the patience for it. So i need a shadow offspec.
The bigger issue, however, is that the current system is extremely good at hiding upgrades from the player. If i get a ring with a socket+corruption from a worldboss while i am currently wearing rings with higher ilvl+sockets but no corruption it is simply IMPOSSIBLE to decide on the spot if that piece is worth keeping or not. For Azerite, it can be even worse.
Usually i get a bunch of such upgrade candidates in chunks. So at the end of the week i have ~10 new items which COULD be upgrades. Checking them all takes a lot of time.
But wait! There is more!
In the case of corruption you usually have a targeted cap you do not want to cross. So basically you never know how much corruption you can bring on which item, which means any item with a useful corruption that you do not have an EXACT duplicate of is potentially useful if you have to change other gear later.
I never was particullary good at inventory management. But the current system has to be the worst ever.
I do not think it is any better or more engaging than any previous gearing system we had, either. This is - of course - subjective. But i am looking forward to the day i can vendor each and every piece of BFA gear and never look back. I remember at least 2 Items from Legion that i am sorely missing to this day - BFA gets exactly zero on that score.
Edit:
I forgot about the multiboxers from high-pop realms farming herbs in my zones. Those are actually ALWAYS there. They won’t help me get my mobs down, though. And they are in Nazjatar, anyway.
I have to carry all of even potentially relevant corruptions along in case I get something I want to use, but I have to adjust rest of the corruption items so I dont go over the limits I want to stay at.
