My "Battle.Net" app is downloading some BETA and it's hogging all of my bandwidth can't turn it off can't stop it

Hello,

My battle.Net app has decided to start downloading some “BETA” which I have NOT requested.

I just play CLASSIC and have no interest in any kind of BETA after the Vanilla BETA Classic that happened 3-4 years ago.

Now the thing is, I cannot stop the BETA download, I cannot control the bandwidth, I cannot throttle it and there is no option to turn it off or uninstall it.

So please help:

  1. How can I stop the BETA download?
  2. How can I throttle the BETA download?
  3. How can I uninstall the BETA?
  4. How can I opt out of any and all BETAs?

The last thing I opted in for a beta was 3-4 years ago just before the Vanilla BETA and I never got in anyway so this totally and completely useless.

Now I cannnot play b/c the BETA is hogging all of my bandwidth.

Please help.

Thanks.

On the launcher itself you should be able to click on the battle net icon top left and choose settings. Then under Downloads you should find all sorts of useful settings.

You should also be able to pause any existing download happening via the launcher itself.

Hello Puny Elf.

I have already checked these settings and set the AUTOMATIC UPDATES to “NEVER AUTOMATICALLY APPLY UPDATES”.

What the app is downloading is NOT an update. It is a BETA.

I can see it dowloading in the SETTINGS>BETA tab.

Whatever stupid BETA this is it went to “99% complete” and then auto resetted to “1% Complete” and it is still downloading full speed.

This has been going on for about an hour, it’s like a virus.

There are no options to stop it or throttle it. It just loops and goes on and on.

EDIT

The offending software is AGENT.EXE so I am going to try to block internet access for AGENT.EXE through my firewall.

(It is AGENT.EXE that is doing the downloading for the BETA)

So it’s the actual launcher not a beta for a game. I misunderstood. My bad.

There is a beta section in the settings too, I am currently opted out so I have no idea what is in there but if the agent is causing issues you might want to uninstall and then reinstall the launcher to see if that gets rid of the issue.

How do I opt out for the launcher beta?

I never opted in for any kind of beta in the first place.

Thanks will try that.

Unfortunately I uninstalled Battle Net and deleted all folders associated with it to and tried to redownload it.

Apparently right now Blizzard servers for some reason do not allow the download of the Battle Net data.

Battle net app installation is now stuck at “Updating Battle Net Update Agent”.

Did you unblock it from your network?

I never did block it in the first place.

The installation is working now.

Update:

Although I had uninstalled Battle Net, and then manually removed all folders from the drive incl the hidden Program Data folders and then reinstalled it only about 15 days ago, it appears my Battle Net App was corrupt and it auto enabled the download of a new BETA battle Net version.

After uninstalling, manually deleting all battle Net folders and re-installing the app, it no longer auto-downloads the Battle Net App Beta and there is now a button there that asks you if you wanna switch to Battle Net Beta.

Hope this helps.

I’m having a similar issue, I noticed BETA was hogging my bandwidth and I’ve tried everything here so far.

Currently attempting to reinstall battle.net but it’s very slow. I deleted all battle.net folders to account for corrupt files but it’s still incredibly slow.

UPDATE:

My new Battle Net App, which I installed yesterday, downloaded back-to-back two different new versions of the Battle Net App one after the other.

Current version is 2.30.1.1.14758
Agent version: 2.34.1.8636

After downloading these two new versions my battle.net app has stopped downloading for the time being.

We’ll see what happens later.

This is very annoying for ppl on slow internet b/c there is no way to pause or throttle or stop the download in any way and the buttons in the SETTINGS tab only apply to game updates not Battle Net updates.

I just got my second battle.net update in as many days. Maybe it’s helped.

I am up to date with the launcher and yet i still have this beta thingies downloading every other hour it seems. Only solution i found was to close completetly battlenet at all time. Now i wonder if i can start games without even starting it.

Hello guys, this is today’s update:

After 5 days of behaving normally, my Battle Net App started again to chain download updates.

It would download an update, then apply it and then after I closed the app and started it again, it would resume downloading yet another update.

I am tired of having to manually delete Battle Net app every 2-3 days and reinstall (waste of my time) so I used my AVG Internet Security to BLOCK internet access to the software

C:\ProgramData\Battle.Net\Agent\Agent.8653\Agent.exe

“Agent.Exe” is the offending software. It runs in the background and keeps downloading non stop hogging my connection.

Since Blizzard have not fixed yet the issues with their Battle Net software, the only alternative apart from closing the software every time the game is launched is to just block it from sending and receiving any traffic through your Firewall Software.

Hope this helps people.

Hi finally someone with same issue, when i was playing wow SOD I noticed that i hard lag sometimes, and I wasn’t sure why it was happening only in wow sod (blizzard games in general).
I figured out that it was that annoying blizzard app updating non stop every hour as someone said in the comment section, and when there is a game update it’s spliting my download speed between that “beta” non stop update and my game update and make it verry slow, because blizzard use the same agent to update games/app.
I had a kinda fix for it, I use NetLimiter 4 pro to throttle the battle.net update agent (50 kbps) but remember to unlimit the download speed whenever you need to update a game and limit it back when you done.
