My first level 60!

Hello everyone,

Just hit level 60 on my first character in retail. I played Classic before but SL seems like a different game to be honest.

Just finished SL storyline, didn’t do anything beside that and I enjoyed a lot! Movies, stories and characters hooked me so hard, finished it in heartbeat. Stories I like the most were Fae and Ventyr, Fae because I love that druid/shamanistic types of stories and Ventyr mostly because I didn’t expect that will happened. But after all I picked Fae faction, fits the best with shaman lore and because I like the fox form

But now I stuck. Playing a shaman and I am curious and a bit confused on what should I put my focus now? What should be my next steps?

Thanks in advance!
Happy New Year!

Your next step is to keep playing the campaign for the story. While doing so you get renown and access to Korthia.

Then you can do whatever you like for gearing up, either it be M+, raiding, PvP, or simply World Quests and Korthia dailies and rares.

Sorry for asking but what is renown? And I saw people mentioning some legendary item. How to obtain that one?

This is a reward and progression system that allows you gain sort of “reputation” with your covenant. Max renown level is 80 and you should be getting those doing covenant daily callings, killing bosses in raids and dungeons or even doing torghast. ^^

First of all, congratulation

Now,

Do covenant and Korthya story, and casually with now fuss prepare for 9.2 :+1:

You will get introduced to all this through the campaign, so don’t worry if you don’t understand all this stuff yet.

Renown is a character power system tied to covenants - which for you is Night Fae. By doing campaign quests and Callings you get Renown - which increases the standing with your covenant and thus gives you better world quest rewards and most important: unlocks Soulbind Conduit slots.

Early in the Covenant Campaign you get introduced to your first Soulbind Niya and you get your first conduits to use in the Forge of Bonds. Higher renown unlocks more Conduit slots and Soulbinds, and thus your character power. Conduits is rewarded from World Quests and Callings at this point.

During the Campaign you will also be told to go back to Oribos and return to the Maw to rescue Thrall, Baine, Jaina and Anduin. It is during this quest line you unlock Torghast and the Runeforger.

The Runeforger is the guy that crafts your Legendary, but here is the cumbersome part:

In order to craft a specific Legendary, you need a Memory of the specific Legendary you want. Here’s an article covering the available Legendaries for your spec and how to obtain their memories: https://www.wowhead.com/guides/elemental-shaman-best-legendaries-shadowlands

When you have obtained the Memory, you have to use it in the room with the Runeforger, so he can learn how to craft that particurlar Legendary.

And no, we aren’t done yet. Now we need the following reagents:

Soul Ash and Soul Cinders, which are rewarded from completing Torghast, Tower of the Damned. There are two scenarios on daily lockout, so you can do the two available scenarios daily until you have the Soul Ash and Cinders you need.

2x Missives, these are crafted by Scribes and buyable on Auction House. There are four different Missives: Missive of Haste, Missive of Critical Strike, Missive of Versatility, and Missive of Mastery. You can’t use two of the same in the Legendary, you have to pick two different missives.

1x Base Item. This is crafted by gear crafters for all gear slots, meaning Leatherworkers for your armour type (Mail) or Jewelcrafters for the neck/ring slot. All buyable on Action House. The Base Item for Mail Armour is called Boneshatter, and you will find it on AH for many slots and a wide range of item levels. The Base Items for neck/ring slots are called Shadowghast. The higher the level the base item have, the more Soul Ash/Cinders is required to craft the Legendary.

Congrats on your first 60. As you liked the story part of Wow so much, I’m going to suggest you maybe play some of the earlier expansions content you might not have seen while levelling up. As it’s your first character there’s probably a lot of game you’ve never seen that might really appeal to you.

You can of course just play catch up with renown and current max-level content but it may be a while before patch 9.2 comes out so there’s probably no rush.

It’s indeed layers upon layers of systems to learn. My advice is: Relax, and play through the campaign quest lines. This will give you the story of the expansion so far, as well as introduce you to these things in order.

Don’t spend time looking up guides on beforehand, doing so will probably confuse you more than anything else.

No, not this time. I was grinding and min-maxing in Classic, because my guild asked of me. I was officer for healers and main healer, had to participate to every raid, be prepared, etc. (as resto druid, lol).

That burned me out so hard that Ichad to take really long break of the game.

I learned my lesson, I am here mostly to meet new people, explore, hang out with my 2 RL friends, do some raiding, collect gear (tmog thing sounds awesome), achievements, toys and pets. Do some raiding and dugeoning but nothing seriously, if I feel I want to play I will go, if not I will just skip it and do what I want to do. That’s the plan

Glad to see someone enjoying the story  I didn’t pay attention to it at all.

They do not have a daily or weekly lockout anymore.

To OP: you’re now free to explore the world and game and do whatever the heck you want

Ok boomer stop ruining it for people.

Congratulations on 60!

Close. It is actually a bit hard, and so confusing. If Franz Kafka was still alive, I would assume Blizzard had hired him as an advisor for the new-60 experience.

The main thing to remember is that the featured quests in the top portion of your Quest Log are the path the devs want you to take. You will never go wrong following them.

Renown is a kind of rep with your Covenant, and each Renown brings a new perk. There are 80 in total, but you want to get 45 ASAP, because that brings Flying.

Do your daily Callings (the up to three sets of quests you get from your Covenant) because each one will bring you a Renown. IIRC, before they are open to you, your Covenant will give you a quest to do 3 World Quests in Ardenweald. Then the Callings are open. Check the whole map. World Quests will also bring you gear and Anima and other good studd.

Dungeons will also bring you Renown.

The featured quests will bring you into the Maw and Torghast. In Torghast you earn the Soul Ash, and later Soul Cinders, to make your Legendary. See Icy-Veins for all about what Legendary to look for, and other class-playing tips: https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/elemental-shaman-pve-dps-guide

If you have too much gold, you can spend some on item level 200 gear at the AH, to make your early days at 60 a bit easier. In a while, your quest chains will lead you to open Korthia, where gear drops start at 200, and get upgrades from there.

That’s as much as you need to know for now. Don’t worry so much about the rest.
