Season of Discovery is a success any way you put it. The developers did so much with what little they were given. But the fact remains that they took a chance and made it their own.
Starting with Blackfathom Deeps we basically had a “Demo” of what Season of Discovery could be like. Many players turned up, more than anticipated, and it cemented the game mode as a staple.
With Gnomeregan shortly after being a lot more intricate and a tad more challenging, we headed into the Sunken Temple which was just a little overtuned.
Lore wise, Season of Discovery is in a very special position. With the new quests introduced in BWL for example. They have shown how much fun that can be if the developers are allowed a little leeway and make it their own story. For me personally, I really enjoyed the Truthbearer questline.
Remember, any form of Classic is just a “What if?”-scenario created by Chromie anyway. The main timeline doesn’t change whatsoever. I sincerely believe the SOD devs should take the opportunity by the horns here.
With the Scarlet Enclave raid finally open to players, we get to see more of what I’ve always wanted to see since Wrath of the Lich King. I always thought of Abbendis’ demise as just so interesting and how it lead to the cave that Frostmourne used to slumber in.
At this very moment we (The Heroes of Azeroth) are technically directly messing with the Lich King’s plans. Liberating the Scarlet enclave, getting rid of the Dread lords can lead to so much more.
My sincere hope is that we go to Northrend next. They could write an incredibly interesting Lore connection that is the “Same but different” with how the Alliance would handle this together with the Horde in the wake of the Scarlet Enclave. They even mention Abbendis and it would be pretty fun to see what the Scarlet Crusade looks like in the Dragonblight if the Dreadlords didn’t interfere. Do they conquer Naxxramas before we get there? Will naxx even be there at all? Did they establish a new kingdom?! So many ways to make this interesting. We could even be without Dalaran at all there and see a completely different Crystalsong Forest.
Rather than the shameful Death Knights, we would be joined by the remnants of the Scarlet Enclave without needing the hero class. There are so many opportunities to be had here. The lore concerning Tirion Fordring as the “Only” Ashbringer can be fleshed out or even could send the player on a journey to finally purify it.
Thanks for reading. I’m just a passionate player and lore freak. Love what you guys do with SOD. Thanks for making it just such a breathtaking journey.
