My idea for affliction tree

This is just a basic idea, feeback is appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

  • Row one; Level 15 - Cooldowns

Nightfall - Deathbolt - Empowerment (new)

Empowerment: Deal full damage of your damage over time spells based on time remaining

  • Row two; Level 30 - Survival

Writhe in Agony - Absolute Corruption - Leech (new)

Leech: damage done by damage over time spells heals you for 1.5% of damage dealt

  • Row three; Level 45 - Mobility

Burning Rush - Full Retreat (new) - Nimbleness (new)

Full Retreat: After using demonic gateway, you gain 20% additional movement speed for 5 seconds

Nimbleness: After casting or channeling a spell, you gain 5% speed, up to 50% for 6 seconds (which refreshes until 50%), after which lasts another 5 seconds but diminishes by 12%

  • Row 4; Level 60 - Area of Effect

Sow the seeds - Phantom Singularity - Shadowflame (new)
Vile taint baseline

Shadowflame: Summons a Twilight Drake that breathes shadowflame in a cone, dealing 20% of the warlocks health to all targets within the cone, lasts 12 seconds

  • Row 5; level 75 - Crowd Control

Darkfury - Earthshatter (new) - Nightmare (new)
Demonic Circle baseline

Earthshatter: Causes a quake at target location, dealing damage and causes targets to be rooted in place for 8 seconds

Nightmare: Causes your fear to also slow the target after fear ends

  • Row 6; level 90 - DPS

Shadow Embrace - Haunt - Soul Siphon (new)

Soul Siphon: Causes your Drain life or Drain Soul to deal 3% increased damage for each damage over time spell, up to 10%

  • Row 7; level 100 - Management

Soul Conduit (rework) - Dark Soul: Misery - Creeping Death

Soul Conduit: Agony has an increased chance to grant a soul shard and corruption has a chance to grant a soul shard

  • New Row! Level 115 - Class Flavor

Demon Armor (new) - Fel Armor (new) - Shadow Armor (new)

Demon Armor: Reduces damage taken by 15% and increases healing on you by 15%, lasts 30 minutes

Fel Armor: Increases your critical strike rating by 5% and grants you a shield based on damage done, up to 20% of warlocks health, lasts 30 minutes

Shadow Armor: Damage made against you causes the attacker to be damaged for 10% of warlocks health

I find you concept interesting although I feel like, especially with the numbers you gave, would make warlocks very op. Empowerment seems like a stronger death bolt, which I’m assuming you want replaced? Esspecially with the dark glare combo, empowerment would hit like a truck. Death bolt only hit for 20% of the remaining dot dmg and can hit upward of 100k , so buffing that to 100% dmg seems a bit op.
Leech feels like a pretty useless talent and would force you into WiA, cause heeling for 1.5% of your dots dmg is next to nothing.
The drake one seems nice, but would u need to channel for the full 12 seconds? Also 12 seconds is a long time over which the abilities does it dmg, at 200k hp that ability would hit for around 3k a sec, which seems low, so maybe reducing the channel time to around 4 seconds on a 45 second cd would give affliction locks a semi decent bursts AoE cd,
Earthquaking seems like a good idea,although I feel like an aoe root that can’t be broken by dmg, and deals dmg seems a bit op, removing the dmg effect would make it comparable to the druids mass entangle.
And a talent buffing your drain life, especially in combination with inevitable demise which can already make ur drain life tick for for around 16-20k, seems a bit broken again. Although I guess this could be fine tuned.
I agree tho that making vile taint baseline and buffing its usefulness would be good. My idea would be to make it comparable to UA just for aoe. You cast it at the target and it erupts dmg all targets around it for Leta say 30k but not dmg the main target, or only deal 8k to the main target, meaning that for single target UA is still your go to SS dump but u have a bursty aoe option. Maybe add an azerite trait that makes vial taint apply agony to all targets hit or something

I think it’s terrible.
Empowerment sounds very very similar to deathbolt, yet you listed both on same row.
On row 2 you name it survival and added a healing talent to compete with WiA and AC, which are both damage talent.
Shadowflames summons a DRAGON!
Soul Siphon is at best a 10% increase on abilities that are presently less than 10% of your total damage, so it’s an overall 1-1.5% dmg increase even with Inevitable demise.

Thank you for your input guys, I’m not much of a mathematician, as I’m sure you can tell, it’s more on the idea of each row does something and a varying way, some with youe toolkit and others introducing abilities, hopefully in a more interesting way and perhaps makes more sense.

I know as a general purpose, this is what Blizzard has tried and failed to do in my opinion, this is more of a general idea that I hope the concept is somewhat welcomed, like I say, I’m not a mathematician or balance type of person, despite trying to keep things low, rather than shooting way too high, which I always seem to do.

Wasn’t meant to be OP, I was hoping to have a mechanic that works to deal upfront damage, perhaps it might not work, so perhaps have drain soul baseline and have the talent buff that instead?

The idea is to replace or change how siphon life works, rather than being it’s own DoT and heals from its own damage, it affected from all your other DoTs, I didn’t want to make it too OP in terms of survival.

I’m glad you liked the idea, I thought about it being channelled but I rather have it work similar to glare but without the DoT concept, similar to how Gargoyle from DK’s function

Well, it’s supposed to replace or “upgrade” siphon life to affect all of your spells instead of it being a single dot.

I don’t know how I’m supposed to take that aha

If i mean u could make it a fell lord or some other demon you summon, so i also dont understand how to that is an issue :smiley:.

I dont know a lot about DK´s so cant say much about that :smile: One issue i had that i forgot to write about, was that it scales of off max health, meaning that the dmg on it will increase, not only with item lvl due to stats, but from your stamina, so you might run into balancing issues down the line, especially if they only do itm lvl squishes every other expansion.

While over the course of a whole fight this might be true, but having such a strong single target nuke, that heals you can be increadibly strong, especially in higher end content, where prio adds need to be bursted.

One idea i had, and idk if i posted it :smiley: was a change to vial taint to make it a competative soul shard dump and that was:

Viale taint errupts from the target dmg surrounding targets for, lets say 30ishk split among all targets hit, and increasing with each target hit to a max of 30k/target at idk 6 targets hit, with the target you cast it on being unaffected by the erruption. This would give you a strong aoe ability without affecting your single target, (numbers might have to change)

It’s all ideas, numbers are going to be a rough estimation :stuck_out_tongue: However I do feel Locks need another AoE spell, at least affliction does, it gets a bit…Meh, having to cast SoC, the AoE corruption spread is nice but if it keeps refreshing like, every couple seconds.

Wouldn’t be so bad if SoC also dealt the extra damage that the rest of corruption had left over its duration, but sadly not.

Also, to have an interesting choice, maybe boss by boss, like this is add boss, need aoe, this is a survival boss, need defense and so on so forth.

Honestly i didn’t read all changes that you proposed, but hell this is personal ideas and opinion of player who does care about warlocks, even if he cares about single spec, and this is good thing…i kinda do this for demonology.

At least make it a felvoid revanant if anything, why a dragon? Besides rule of cool?
What have warlocks ever had to do with dragons?

In some instances, mostly in twilight hammer shennenigans, using some sort of shadow magic to bend and shape dragons to their will etc. so I figured something different, considering the demons we already get to control.
