My one and only Vanilla character that still remains

Hey, no peak pve/pvp perfomance whatsoever here, I just wanted to share some kind of 1min budget tribute video of my vanilla character I made for no particular reason, because why not ?

Since I can’t embed media here I’m sharing the link only:

Also I’m curious to know if some players have old vanilla characters and if they keep playing them.

This is Peleas, the character I had during Vanilla Wow, around 2005/2006. Back in the days I used to play on my parents PC, only the weekend, until life happened and that I gave up on games in general for a couple of years.

I returned to Wow in late Legion and, out of curiousity, opened a ticket to figure out if I could get back my old account, with little informations to provide, until a Blizzard’s employee used his impressive arcanes knowledge and managed to find it.

When I logged in I found my old toon lost in Ironforge, with utterly crap gear and an embarrasing two handed spear.

This was proof I had no idea how to play my Paladin, nor what to do in this mysterious game in general. Didn’t have any guild, barely cleared dungeons and probably wasn’t aware we could step into raids or battlegrounds.

For what I remember my character was mostly wandering without clear goal, killing wolves and crabs on the way. And that’s pretty much it. Let’s say Azeroth has probably seen more valiants light bearers…

To be fair I just loved Warcraft III and thought World of Warcraft was some kind of sequel. Turns out it was something completely different.

Since I enjoyed my character for a couple of months, but it didn’t feel like the same game anymore. Wow seemed to have lost his simple, desperate, obscure, sometimes spooky side that hooked me years ago, in exchange for an overwhelming theme park of shiny winged-poneys, infinite mana-pooled heroes and an endless list of funny toys to collect.

So I cleared some old quests, completed new ones, moved my toon to Northrend so I can get it a few cool features and transmogs, in order to let it rest in Stormwind’s Cathedral in a more honorable fashion, this time probably for good.

No Vanilla characters for me to share, I started in TBC, but I still have my old characters from back then and I can always pop back to them for a nostalgia hit. But yes the game has changed a lot over the years, but you played in Legion you say and I guess you enjoyed it? Classic I feel gives some of the old game vibes if that is what you are looking for. In the end it’s down to what you want to do, sometimes it is the right time to ‘call it a day’. It was nice of you to share your memory, I enjoyed it.

Be careful with new zones you might level up!

I found Legion beautiful and loved most of the news graphics, spells effects and some new zones (knowing I still had the old Azeroth in mind, so it was quiet fun to explore the changes).

This said, I quickly figured out the game was now too fast-paced for my taste, also full of low level characters riding a motorbicycle rather than running in low-level zone, a meaningless feast of mounts/toys to collect for the sake of collecting, a dungeons auto-finder where I ended up with players that barely spoke to each others and tons of ways to haste the leveling as much as possible, as if the endgame was the only feature that truly mattered.

It was like this world wasn’t that big and mysterious anymore.

I probably felt overwhelmed by these changes and this made me quit Wow for good…

…until Classic was announced and I wrote a brand new story with a new Paladin, from launch day to the moment I became the sole owner of Might of Menethil of my guild (still better than a green two handed spear I guess).

I think a lot of people miss this aspect.

It seems you are/were having fun in Classic, so at least there is an aspect of the game you still enjoy. I recently enjoyed playing Enshrouded for the open world and slower exploration, though not an MMO, it was a fun game. Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and play other games, it can also give you a better perspective of what you miss/liked in WoW (or not) as the case may be

I started during TBC as well but I deleted my warlock and rerolled it in Remix. Can’t even remember if that was the original or not. It’s been all sorts of things over the years. It probably wasn’t the one.

I’m still playing most of the characters i created when WoW started. I deleted several ones, but the remaining ones are the ones i play regularly. This hunter was the very first character i created, followed by my druid and then my priest in the very first days.
After a month i decided that a pvp realm wasn’t funny and moved to a normal realm where i created my actual warlock, warrior, paladin and mage. I would stop playing Wow for good if i’ld lose my hunter, warlock or druid. Too many memories and that’s the only reason i keep playing WoW even after the new Blizzard team messed up the game, imo.
I got 20 characters on 3 different realms now, all between level 71 and 80, plus several others around 35. But, those characters from Vanilla? They are my reason to play WoW.
