My problem with Classic WoW

Moderation and balance is key indeed. But if you really can’t balance WoW with all other aspects of life then it’s best to completely cut it out of your life.

And be careful that you don’t replace it with a new addiction

I’ve actually had the exact same struggle with video games at some point. It was a somewhat long process, had to do with me being a perfectionist.

I’ve been through several I’m-done-with-gaming-forever cycles, but here I am and things are actually working out just fine for me.

I’ll give you 2 tips, though I can’t guarantee that they will work:

  1. Once you start feeling the gaming fatigue (not enjoying the games anymore, while being too tired and unmotivated to do anything else), just take a 2-day break. It sounds pointless, but it’s actually not. You’ll see why.
  2. Do a 90-day detox. This means no gaming for 90 days. Now, I’ve actually done a 30-day detox and “relapsed” simply because it happened so that I had caught a flu at some point and was house-bound for 7 days, so there was nothing else to do. This 30-day detox actually did the trick for me. I can now enjoy gaming without constantly getting stuck in the gaming fatigue. Whenever it happens, I resort to tip number 1.

Give this a go and let us know how it went!

You’re displaying the same mindset as a chain smoker who habitually reaches for the cigarettes, even though he hates the taste of them and they make him feel sick.

The key sentence in your post is :

When I get a piece of gear I just feel so hollow inside still, even though I’ve put days into it

You’ve locked yourself into a classic (no pun intended) addiction cycle. Possibly because you rushed through everything at breakneck speed to join the raiding treadmill, playing the game morning, noon and night, abandoning all other commitments - and are now completely burned out, which is hardly surprising.

The other possibility is that you’re using WoW as an escape from real life, and that there’s something going on that you’re prefer not to deal with.

Either way you need to stop playing right now, as it’s clearly doing you no good whatsoever - and in fact, if it’s stopping you from doing real life activities and socialising, it’s actively doing you harm. You’re also experiencing mood swings which is never a good sign.

You need to cancel your sub ASAP while you still have the willpower left to do so.

Not cut down, not ‘go casual’ not ‘moderate your play time’, quit completely, pull the plug.

I’m addicted too. I’d left my job, because I wanted to play more. Of course, I’m going to return back to normal life, but now I need a big break.
Retail have never been so fun for me, but classic is the other thing. I don’t know why, but I’m able to feel a really deep immersion here. Even with mount I can spend a lot of time walking, but don’t know why. I can simply enjoy the world and my life here. Raids, dungeons, pvp, rp … Everything doesn’t matter now. Classic is love, Classic is life.

UPD: I think I’ll quit this game after new year for a long time. Don’t want to do it, but the real life is important too. Unfortunately I couldn’t live here forever.

Sounds like “your problem with yourself” not with classic wow. if you get that addicted to classic wow you need to do something with yourself.

“Is it possible to play classic wow in a really casual way?”
Yes it is, im just chilling and leveling in peace (now that questing is enjoyable), im not rushing to 60 or so. I started on launch and im currently only 47 level
