My review of season 4 (m+)

There is 0 incentive to do more than +10 and they are a joke.

OK. Il tell you why I do keys higher than +10 :

  • Challenge is fun for me.
  • I get more rio and bragging rights.

2 reasons.

Not YOUR reasons. But reasons none the less.

And maybe most people don’t share them. But at least 4/5 people I do keys with apparently do. So someone other than me cares.

Prove me wrong.

People who enjoy actually playing M+ instead only wanting the rewards.

Challenge is fun for too, and I hate that the 2nd affix hits only at the 10+ range. RIO is meaningless to me as it resets each season. I tried doing keys over 10+ (I can usually do +12 without a problem) but I easilly get bored of doing it for the sake of the challenge alone and start feeling like I am wasting my time while I can spend that time gearing an alt. Season where I come in late and can achieve my BiS gear are particularly boring for me since I am well overgeared before I even step into a +10(+20).

I enjoy doing M+, read above the reasoning.

Fair enough.

Fixed it.

No, because it is correct, objectively there is 0 incentive to do anything higher than 10.

Do I need to quote MY 2 incentives?

So its not ZERO anymore.

Incentives /= Rewards.

Dont be dense. You are better than this.

I agree as I have 0 interest in keys beyond 5, not to mention 10, but it’s also a mindset thing. If you consider progression rather than challenge a good use of your time, fine!
Different people, different likes though (:

The most I will concede is that we disagree on the definition of “incentive” and will edit out the “objective” part.

I don’t necessarily want a reward, I would be fine if there was a way to track and/or save your max score from previous seasons for said bragging rights whitout using a 3rd party addon that only shows your previous season at best.

Objectively is only by the rewards people find objectively important. Which is not objective in the first place. The game is about fun. When you enjoy doing +5’s then you enjoy +5’s. When you enjoy +25 you enjoy +25’s.

The purpose of Raider IO is to track relevant data. And if it would be replaced by an ingame engine of sorts, it should also show relevant data.

So while it would be nice to show past Rio, its not relevant for others when forming a group what IO you had in S1 SL for example.

And every time there is a new season, it shows only the rio of the previous season for a time. After ~ a month it becomes irrelevant as well.

What does last through time are achevements and/or mounts earned. And we are in need of more rewards of that tipe in M+.

Among other things, to give you (and others) the lasting satisfaction of the keys you have done in the past.

Yes I am fully aware what RIOs purpose is, and that is what I am saying. Even if RIO would have the option to show, idk lets say my BfA s2 score I still wouldn’t care for it. It’s only a vetting tool for me when it comes to creating groups.

I’m a bit worried about adding more rewards to M+ because when something gives a reward Blizzard usually nerf it in order for said reward to be reachable. I mean +20s/+10s (especiially since they removed the seasonal affix) kinda feel like a +15 in BfA, now. Idk is it just me or do the key levels feel less punishing compared to previous expansions.

We already got the 0.1%.

You expand that. 2 changes :

  • You make 3 or 4 more brackets. 0.2%, 0.5% and 1% for example. Give some Transmog, mount and title for each bracket.

  • You make said brackets by SPEC. Not overall.

By doing the 1st option, you divorce rewards from key level. It wont matter how hard or easy a +15 will be.

By doing the 2nd option, you incentivize playing with off meta specs. Its much easier to be top 0.2% of a barely played spec than 0.2% of ALL dps.

DONE.

I like the second option. Incentive to play off meta is always good.

As for the first, like I said I don’t really need mounts/mogs/titles (even though they are greatly appreciated). Just a form of score track for previous experiences that goes longer than the previous season. I will give you two examples for why RIO score doesn’t matter to me, A) One could easily lie about it once RIO stops tracking it, “Dude I was totally 3500 io in SL and I missed the 0.1 reward by 2 RIO score” and B) You have 0 proof of that happening even if you did, I have this friend who is absolutely terrible at the game and yet he finished last season with 3200+, if that guy showed up in your dungeon you would never believe that he didn’t get boosted (arguably he did, but he didn’t pay a single copper for it, which is an achievement on it’s own). Imo just expand the score screen to be a drop down menu that show previous season that you can link in chat or something.

When a spec is barely played it is also harder to get in the 0.1%. It actually would benefit to play the meta. I played in SL season 1 with a survival hunter being literally the number 70 world wide, and still that was far off from 0.1%.

Yes and if the system actually worked spec based, your friend would actually have something to show for his effort and skill. I mean 3 seasons from now, imagine if he got asked “How good are you at survival” or something like that and he was like “I was top 70 world wide in S3 DF”, why would anyone believe him off the bat. I’m not saying your friend is someone who would care about that, but it would be good to have stuff to back up your claims.

The flip side kinda sucks too though, oh my spec is meta now dang I have to compete with meeres and moadmoad for title in 30s where any mistake is a wipe as opposed to 26s where despite my spec being weaker I can still basically coast.

What’s more likely to happen is you’ll get people playing off meta specs in otherwise full meta groups. Also how does this track spec swapping within keys, if I start a key as balance for the first pull then switch resto, how does that get logged?

Similarly what if we’re Ret Disc until the last boss then both hearth out and come back as Shadow Hpala. There’s no real reason to want to do that right now I admit, but the game and timers allow it so how would it be handled?
