[N/A-Night Elf RP] Ill Omens

The following notice is posted around night elf refugee camps in Stormwind and can even be found in the remaining settlements and outposts in Kalimdor.

Ishnu-alah my friends.

It is with a heavy heart that I bear news of ill omens in these already troubling times. With the loss of our beloved home in an act of unbridled savagery, the blessings of Teldrassil that once offered protected to our people have started to wane. While tending to the needs of our people in diaspora in the city of Stormwind, I have come to see disease take hold and spread where previously the grace of Teldrassil protected us from such.

The ramifications of this are no doubt dire, and I implore you, my kin, to take extra caution when traveling to distant lands. Our people are vulnerable now and we must look after one another and offer aid to those who cannot aid themselves. Only by being united as a community will we overcome this time of peril that threatens us.

The rare herb Bathran’s Hair once might have offered us succor, but the cruelty of the Forsaken know no limits. Ever since their invasion, I have failed to find and cultivate a healthy one that has not been tainted by their corruption.

I implore you who has the spirit of kinship shine bright in you to explore venues through which to research and tame this looming ailment. Healers look after the sick. Fighters defend our weak. Together we shall weather this storm.

By Mother Moon’s grace,
Helwyr Hornmantle
Druid of the Antler

Hey fellas! Telaryn here. This is an open story hook for anyone willing to participate in it to add flavour to night elf RP. With the blessings of the Dragon Aspects on Teldrassil that offered night elves immunity from disease gone, I think it would be an interesting idea to explore the ramifications of it beyond just wanting to get vengeance with the Night Warrior.

From a lore stand point, we know that Jarod’s wife died suddenly from disease after the loss of Nordrassil and its accompanying blessings from the Aspects, giving reason to doubt the nature of night elves and their resistance to diseases.

Nobody is forced to participate in this idea, it’s just a good amount of optional flavour to add more spice to your story rather than dictate it. Not everyone is going to be playing the Night Warrior thing in their night elf RP, so consider this an alternative way to engage in aiding your people.

Let’s be excellent to each other

Did that blessing exist? I know Alex and Ysera blessed the tree to make it healthy, did it actually do anything to the night elves themselves? Never heard of that before… Considering there is a sick child in Astranaar, which takes place after that blessing was made.

Good luck, though!

Indeed it was! But the sick child in Astranaar was there since Vanilla. Night elves and Teldrassil went unblessed until the time period between Wrath and Cata where the Aspects finally blessed it after the Nightmare corruption was rooted out.

While the night elves could have very feasibly developed a resistance to sickness found in their lands in Kalimdor in the years after losing their immunity, Traveler makes mention of night elves being considered a rare sight in Eastern Kingdoms even during the time the novel takes place in Mists of Pandaria due to their isolation, meaning beyond individuals and small groups, night elves never really were exposed to the wild life and diseases of the land. Not without magical immunity protecting them at any rate.

Now there’s a mass exodus of unprotected night elves to a new land with poor living conditions of the refugee camps with Jarod’s wife offering precedence that night elves might not have developed a natural immunity…

Dire times are ahead of us indeed.

I like the idea of this initiative, but I’m not sure if we can transfer IRL lack of resistance into the WoW setting (even though it would make sense). At this point night elves would have certainly been mostly rooted out by diseases if it was the case, seeing as there definitely is contact with all kinds of A. Alliance races B. even Horde races . Not to mention the fact that races like the Draenei and Orcs seem completely unaffected, even though they are literally from a different planet.

I really like this idea, it adds much needed depth to the situation the Kaldorei refugees have to go through in Eastern Kingdoms beyond the mental scarring from the loss of home and loved ones.

The elves already had a hard time adapting to their mortality and adding to it now possibility of succumbing to illness or disease is yet another threat to take into account and overcome and might result in some nice healing rp perhaps spiced up with a search for cure outside of Stormwind.

Big thumbs up from me!

It is always nice to see more initiatives pop up to fuel Night Elf roleplay! Looking forward to seeing what comes from this, having been made aware in-character.
