Synopsis
With Queen Ansurek defeated, the Ascended are gone and created a power vacuum. And as life continues in the City of Threads, some Nerubians took advantage of this to rise to new heights. Though free of the shackles and schemes of Xal’atath, this new Ascension copycat proved to be bountiful for a select few, and some wondered what new secrets could generate such a craze, after all, it would be foolish to imagine those who seized power did this entirely on their own. This is when they once again asked for the help of the Overcrawlers in the guise of participating in the charade, in hope to reveal the well kept secrets of the city.
As one among many who accepted the invitation, you visited Azj-Kahet and became a citizen of the City of Threads. Your new life starts in the Burrows, and you can only look up in hope you will yourself uncover the truth of this new Ascension.

Update 2: TRPe Campaign

Why Azj-Kahet?
While I loved Hallowfall like everyone else, with the feeling of epic adventures among the Arathi, I believe I truly fell in love with the way they portrayed the Nerubians compared to the old ones in Northrend, the intricacies of their societies, seeing underdogs having to struggle against the oppression from a much darker power which twisted their own society to something they cannot relate to (the Ascended were described as very alien to them), but also the more darker tone of the area especially the quest “ …And Now I’m Arachnophobic” which gave absolute horror movie vibes, they also added a lot of strange but hilarious humor with the world quest “Get into their home and … bug them!” or with the old-school tradition of Nerubians eating their husbands, which is a direct reference to some species of spiders. In other words, I loved the more mature approach after being bombarded by the power of friendship in the previous expansion.
But what convinced me to actually make the hub was the quest with General Anub’Azal, because even after Ansurek was defeated, he still decided to strike down the General who killed his student in the hope to avenge them, and that despite the risk of being mortally wounded. And that’s badass. He sadly spends his last moment, yearning for his beloved city and dies as he contemplates it. This made my eyes teary. As an older player I could relate to this feeling as I too have lost people and if you cannot bring them back, honoring them with your heart is what one can only do. And because of that it was hard for me not to fall in love with the City of Threads, because it’s clear the WoW writers poured a lot of love into remaking the Nerubians into a very interesting culture.
So, one morning I woke up and I thought… The Lore Campaign was all fine and dandy but as a roleplayer I want to give some love back to the zone because that’s what we do. And I decided to create a hub so I could share with other roleplayers what I absolutely loved, what some people may have skipped by rushing to lvl 80, and I decided I would offer a more relatable experience to rediscover the Nerubian lore in making a campaign with a political intrigue rather than a place everyone can just join in: I want to keep the mystery, I want to keep the feeling of struggling like underdogs, I want to give the zone the feeling of danger and the ominous prospect something could go wrong after each passing day.
As a result, I spent a few afternoons working on the project, I scoured the exact 264 zone quests for fetching all manner of lore I could get my hand on to try and craft something fitting for the zone, I handcrafted quests, I handcrafted events as an homage Anub’Azal but not just, I have a very amusing ‘therapy’ system in the making because I know people loved Mr. Sunflower, with a friend we scoured the whole city and worked a very interesting map to highlight everything the hub offers that isn’t so apparent at first glance. In the end, I was even surprised by how much potential the zone has.
So, how does this concern you, you who read this? It’s simple, if you wish to dig into the Nerubian lore and you wish to do it without having to work it all out, I did it for you and now I offer it back to the community. If you have a knack for adventures in a more hostile world than just basic enemies trying to whack you away, this is the right campaign to join. And even if you cannot participate or if the concept doesn’t directly appeal to you, you are welcomed to join us in the discord if you wish to see how the story unfolds.
With love,
Neridris.
OOC Concept
This is an initiative to promote long-term roleplay, one character-only endeavor and where everyone starts as social equals. WoW RP is usually filled with alt-hoping, powerful zero-day character and instant gratification for high ranking, high authority concepts. In other words, the power comes with time invested and in a more subtle manner. This may not be suitable for beginners roleplayers and shouldn’t appeal to second-life/romance characters.
A Discord is provided for everyone who wishes to participate, in there they can register one character to participate in the campaign. Every week or two will bring new rules as trends emerge, sooner than later, some people will rank up, giving them new areas to live in, new powers to wield, new opportunities and of course new knowledge about the Ascension.
A set of rules to follow IC and OOC will also be provided with a very particular way to handle IC conflicts, far from just rolls and emote battles.
Who can join?
IC
The initiative is created by an anonymous organization and will only welcome people willing to help solve the problem. If your character joins, they understand the hush-hush nature of the business.
It’s been broadcasted to mercenaries, adventurers, in the underground societies, in places like Westfall with drifters, and to people in need of something different. While guilds can join, members of a guild may find themselves belonging to different castes not matching their Azerothian hierarchy. The best match for the mission are thus characters able to pursue the Ascension without being restrained by other nations and rules. All around, it’s not meant for someone jumping between Stormwind/Orgrimmar & Azj-Kahet every day. Alliance, Horde and Neutrals are welcomed.
If the Ascension isn’t too interesting for your character, there is still plenty to do to help those who do, just be ready to drink snail juice and eat fried scarabs on a daily basis.
The invitation isn’t a public invitation like the Lunar Festival or other events.
The City of Threads is not a holiday destination for bored civilians looking for a spa.
OOC
Everyone who registers in the Discord as a new citizen of Azj-Kahet. The registration is to allow the hub/campaign to work smoothly as there are restrictions on what can be brought in the city as much as which caste the character is part of. Can be new characters, can be old characters, the only way to be refused is if the concept doesn’t fit, for example: Scourge (San’layn), Man’ari, Nightmare/Drust etc., anyone aligned with the Legion/Twilight Hammer/Primalists etc. anyone using growth pots as it’s an infiltration mission not a competition on who’s bigger than a house.
Why is registration necessary? Because Azj-Kahet and the Nerubians work with pheromones, the city is not open to anyone casually joining in and the mysterious organization allowing such is responsible for everyone it’s sending there.
Activities
The hub offers:
- An overarching story.
- Community events rooted in lore.
- Lore & Laws of the city to help emergent RP, including castes and cults.
- Mr Sunflower’s therapy! You will heal, I promise.
- Weekly character based progression.
- Weekly rules to spice everything up.
- Community driven decisions.
- Daily RP, in and out of the city.
- The possibility to host your own events during downtime.
While the campaign is managed by DMs, the content is provided for emergent roleplay and everyone is encouraged to focus on the city life while waiting for events.
Once the campaign is over, people should have a grasp of Nerubian’s lore and can keep the hub alive if they wish so.
Events
I have in preparation nearly ten events that will be alongside the story:
- A weekly black market delivery to import rare goods.
- Sunflower’s group therapy for misbehaving overcrawlers
- Bootcamps for learning the lore
- An arena night for near-deadly fights
- A community feast where you can eat very local cuisine.
- A commemorative night for the General Anub’Azal.
- Two socialites events: Puppet Show and Tales Night. Both with a twist.
FAQ
My character already visited Azj-Kahet in the past, so am I allowed on my own anyway?
The project is both a campaign and a hub. As a start, the campaign takes priority for those who register for it. Later on, once most of the characters are settled into the city, the hub will be more inclusive with a dedicated “Overcrawler” rank. The mission is still managed by the anonymous organization, so any character willing to participate will need to register toward them anyway.
The restriction is also for a matter of fairness toward the campaign goers, not to be bossed around by ‘main characters’.
My friends are all down here, can I just hop into the city?
Anyone visiting the city should in theory have a Nerubian patron to facilitate such a visit, and unless your character is extremely well connected with Nerubians, they shouldn’t be allowed there. With this is consideration, and as long as you are mindful of the ongoing campaign and join with respect to the setting, you are welcomed.
Where is the promised lore?
The hub lore will be revealed in time and alongside the weeks, also some lore will be hidden from lower castes, all to simulate the discovery of a new city and rules, and not to add too much pressure on players when starting. The goal is an immersive experience, not a visit to a conquered territory.
Can I help the hub?
Yes. We are looking for NPCs and people willing to create events on their own. If you ever wanted to properly play a Nerubian, now is the time.
Phasing?
Like for all Khaz Algar RP, we’ll offer an in-game community to help getting into the same phase.
