That isn’t how the system works.
If you have somebody on ignore and they change their name, the new name is on your ignore instead.

Not a good reason for me. Your character was level 10. You could make another character, name it properly and level it to 10, in one day.
Decision always should have consequences. Bad or good.
The main reason of course is the side effect. A scum, changing his name and reseting his bad reputation. That should never happen.
This.
What’s the point if Blizzard do the same mistakes that lead to retail state nowadays ?
Maybe it’s fine for the “pro-change” who want LFG/LFR/Transmog/Achievements/Dual Spec/barbershop/Faction change etc… in TBC (basically they just want retail).
But i highly doubt that those who came back for Classic want to see this crap again.
Whether you think the reason was good or not is irrelevant. I’m just saying why I did what I did.
You switched accounts?
Even so, you said why you did it, in a thread about name change. I just expressed my opinion, why I think that’s a bad idea. Forums, you know?
I will stay with no name changes, no Dual spec (not really cash shop related), no faction or race changes. Even though it was in certain expansions. Classic as presented as staying away from cash shop etc state of mind. not everything in an expansion was good in hindsight but cash shops are never good and should not be incorporated.
Guys I cannot be the only one who is switching Mains for TBC…
And I would like to keep the name I got myself a reputation on the Server, known as in my guild and so on.
Please Blizz implement a TBC name change, make it usable only once during PrePatch or make it cost a fortune.
But please implement it!
I’m switching mains and dislike my alt’s name, but I think the con’s outweigh the pro’s on this one so I vote no.
Guys, there is name change in game. Just transfer on server where name is existing and transfer back.
No thanks.
The amount of people rolling and leveling a character that they despise is staggering.
Hexx be confused… Be wise with your choices, mon. Dey all have consequences.
Deal with it, mon.
“Reputation on the server” … get a life man, thats embarrassing.
Slap a 1 year cooldown on it, like really for the people who made a mistake in creation but don’t want to start over.
People are going insane over this, I’ve been asked over and over in guild chat to report them for an ‘offensive’ name so they get flagged and can change it. Others suggest deleting their character, make a new one with the same name, then do character restoration on the old character, so they can change it anyway.
You can get a reputation by being nice to everyone, you should try it some time…
Get your guild to report both of your character names.
Yeah, like if we’re already doing it this way by basically false reporting and clogging up the system distracting from ‘real’ reports we should consider other options. It’s not a rare thing either.
You asked for a solution. The system is automated anyway.
That’s a program problem. It’s definitely possible to program it such that the player is ignored even if they change their name.
I propose a 100 day cooldown for name changing. This would completely eliminate these kind of issues. Let’s assume Blizzard hasn’t programmed it properly and people you ignore can change their name and message you again, it takes them 100 days and money to send you a message and 1 second for you to ignore them again. In other words, that’s never going to happen.
This is the best solution. Everyone benefits. There are no downsides.
You can always take advantage of the server transfer, if you dont mind changing server to change your name also you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, simply go to the realm you want to transfer to and make a character with the same name as the character your transferring and once its transferred you’ll get requested to name change.
This is a great idea, thanks!
