Name change when?

Are we going to have a name change implemented in Wrath Classic since it was implemented in late October 2007?

If not, may I ask why?

Nice name, why do you want it changed?

they will tell you “server reputation” and such things when half the playerbase have been moved to other servers and almost 30% of servers will close by 9 August, somehow the server knows you and you cannot change name

We have an issue in our raiding roster when 2 other people name sounds similar to mine.

On top of that I’ve changed my Twitch name because I started streaming in primarily in English, but the main reason is to avoid confusion during raid pulls.

There is a way. First you transfer your character to other realm. Then create character with name like on that realm and transfer your name back. It will say name is taken and offer you to take new one.

I don’t know about deleting your character, creating new one with same name and then restoring your deleted characters though.

if you transfer you cannot transfer back for 90 days. And if you delete your character you cannot restore him if name is taken by your account… And I believe that, depending on character level, even if you delete him the name will be locked for some time, so other accounts cannot create character with that name

Aren’t we techincally able to “wipe” the server reputation by transfering to other high pop realm? I really doubt someone even knows i exist, if he’s not a part of our guild tbf.

I am with you… this is not my argument. I just told you what is the reason they dont do name change. I did delete a character of mine some time ago and created another char with that name. My intention was not to change the name. After a while and after I leveled the new character I wanted to restore my old one and couldnt.

I did a ticket for it explaining the situation and this was the response:

I hope you’re doing well during this pandemic and is in good health! Reading through your ticket, I understand that you have an inquiry about undeleting a character that has the same name as another character of yours.

Unfortunately, since name changes are currently unavailable for Classic WoW, I’m afraid that you would indeed need to delete your current character, as mentioned by the previous GM. This is because personal reputation matters in Classic WoW and allowing name changes would in a way invalidate that, such as ninja looters or abusive individuals changing names to reset their reputation.

However, you can send a feedback to our developers through the in-game suggestion or through the forums so that they can review the possibility of adding name changing services to Classic WoW.

I wish you the best on your adventures and hope that everything is well. Be sure to stay safe out there.

If you continue to experience issues, you can reopen this ticket. If you have a new or separate issue, please submit a new ticket.

Make sure you complete our survey to let us know how we did.

Can’t you just get loads of people to report your name and even though it’s not against the rules. The automatic system will kick in and force a rename.

thats clever :stuck_out_tongue: I ll have to try that hehe. Btw is it sure you wont get an automatic ban instead?

I’m kinda wondering about that as well.

I got a forced rename in retail and no ban. My name wasn’t even against the rules. It was not my choice.

Actually I am telling a small lie, I got a 1 second ban to disconnect me.

Free character transfer has no such CD. That’s why Horde could transfer to Razorgore and immideaty take another free transfer to Gehennas in their grand Firemaw exodus.

This is a bit of a false equivalency though.

This option only really exists, if you have no friends or guild at all (which I would pretty much expect a ninja looting egomaniac to have). When you transfer, you may get your reputation reset, but you will also not have all your friends and other contacts with you. Unless they are willing to come with you to a new server.

You will also have to transfer every twink you need aswell, making this very expensive. The cost of all that alone, for you and your friends, will discourage a lot of people from doing that.

While it is technically possible to do, it would be too expensive for most people to deem it worth it. Especially if you are doing it just for the sake of personal reputaton. Because if you are planning on doing it again and again, to stick with your disgusting ways, you’ll have to pay the price even more often. I’m not saying it’s fine that it is possible, if you’re a rich-bich, just that it’s not a viable option for many players.

I agree with this post.

The main reason still exists - changing name for cosmetic purpose and for eliminating the possible confusion in the raid.

but you cannot pay to transfer to a server that has free transfer option… I tried to do that to transfer my character to hydraxian waterlords and then take the free transfer back… it told me that destination is not valid…

This takes long time, as the name, also after a transfer is reserved for a period of time depending on its level.

This is not true, You’ll be asked to rename, but I think they made the “name reserved to your account” period equal to the time a character can be restored. all again level-dependent. And exactly to prevent people frm using this as a shortcut to free renaming (I did this in Classic  )
EDIT: But there I had somenone from another account take my name, not myslf. It seems we need friends

I have too… but they cannot use your name for almost 3 months as I recall…

I Yes now - they made name reservaition time equal to the time you can undelete your character to avoid this “name change despite there being no name change kinda cheat”… I did this in Classic.

you can undelete in 7 days :stuck_out_tongue: does that mean that other people can use your name in 7 days? That is interesting to know!
