Anyway, I realised I can just log on the ptr and use it. I feel silly for not making use it of like that sooner.
It’s because us Europeans are more imaginative than them Yanks.
And, I suppose, because for so many of us, we can just use words from our own language to make fantasy-sounding names. Even when they’re very mundane for us, in an English setting they’re quite “exotic”.
For example, this character’s name. It’s really just the name “Kathleen”, but the Icelandic version of it. On another character, I recently killed a character named “Grásleppa” in a battleground (Wintergrasp). It may be nonsense in English, but in Icelandic, that’s the name of a species of fish (specifically, it’s a female lumpfish). Other fine Icelandic words are e.g. “Ylgur” (a female wolf), “Skessa” (a female Troll), and “Tarfur” (a bull). All quite useable. Maybe taken.
I’m sure many people’s native languages have a variety of good words like these, and if not your own, then maybe just have a look at your neighbour’s language (say, what’s the words for “Brave warrior” or “Noble soul” in Lithuanian? I’m sure these can be combined in various interesting ways to make a great fantasy name, if maybe a little long).
Ye. My name is based on Kreta after all. Quite a lot of my characters are actually Greek or Latin based now that i think about it.
No, it’s that stuff can be offensive in other languages.
As an example: The word for being out of something in Swedish is spelled like a mostly gendered slur in English. Quite annoying when playing with language filter on and something in Swedish gets censored because it’s a slur in English.
I look at naming conventions used in game and lore and run with themes with occasional curve balls.
So obviously tauren are native American influenced, but rather than borrow directly native American names (on AD they’d be taken anyway) I just come up with names that share conventions of those names for most of them. Others are simply names that sound “big and rough” to suit the character. So my cows are stuff like Hotahk, Harnek, Brommul, Roggor, Naraloa, Mikolda, Balah.
Draenei borrow from Greek influences as well as having examples of some fairly long and almost byzantian names so here I have stuff like Melchamas, Arcimendus, Ouranon, Adraesta, Artesmenas.
Trolls, guttural, often broken into two syllables, frequent uses of Z, U, L: Zuujax, Zenbrax, Malazhun, Jahzula, Seetaji.
Honestly naming chars with a fitting name is something I actually enjoy quite a bit.
My char names mostly end up as puns or plays on words because I can’t help myself. It’s a serious problem.
Most names i have are of Celtic origin, this name is ‘Bad Wolf’ in Welsh, and was unique until Dr Who used it.
Couldn’t you just try some 3rd-party name generator app/program ?
Maybe make a wow eu forums post where you ask players to make a random name for you?
Here’s one for you: Namidee
It’s actually 2 words in romanian… without the extra - for n-am, which is short for nu am, with the added idee, which means it’s actually 3 words condensed into 2 words, further merging them to make a 1 word name!
Get it?
Ah… btw, it means: I got no idea.
Which is kinda fitting for you since you wanna use the rng instead of making one for yourself.
Couldn’t you just pop the US client on a starter account and random name generate? because that seems like it’ll solve your issue without Blizzard needing to step in which lets face it they aren’t gonna bring in a name generator anytime soon for EU.
If you can’t think up your own name then you have very little imagination.
Just take a few syllables and put them together. Helldon, Sucar, Bemand, Dunfond or Foghat. Ok that last one is not one of mine.
Didn’t we have a similar discussion a few months ago? Pretty sure we all agreed it’s impossible to make it avoid all the bad words in every language players speak in the EU realms. So if someone gets flagged for an inappropriate name “but it was the name generator’s fault” it would be pretty awkward for Blizzard.

Did you perchance unwittingly slap the Dr Who writers around in PvP, and they stole your name as a middle finger to you???

It is of course what it is. I can not change that.
Except that most the good names from that are taken too
English only on these forums…
I honestly don’t like any of the suggested names in most of those generators.

Even when you do… sometimes it becomes clear that other people put effort in and ended up with the same name as you. I spent an hour thinking up word combos for my warrior’s name and only later found out there’s like 7 other people who figured out the same name
Of course with this name I seen it in a game called "Ico " many years ago, but some people keep thinking it’s a discount version of Yoda.

^ the REAL Yorda

Ok that last one is not one of mine.
lmao xD
Which is weird considering it can generate names that are offensive in English or Spanish (common languages on US realms) as well, but it’s available there.
