Name Plate Addon

I’m using Plater at the moment, it’s not really doing (yet) what I want it to be.

That could very much be my short coming on knowledge of this addon.

I did watch a few youtube vids, changed settings but it’s still not doing what I want.

So when I check on dummies, it’s sort of doing what I want. Ingame, not so much. In dungeons and raid bosses with adds or add phases, I have a hard time seeing where they are.

I know there’s threat change colors, this is already driving me up the wall, so for now I changed everything to red, clear red, not dark red. Any dark colour is close to impossible to see.

I also don’t really want to see ALL the debuffs on them, in my case, JUST flame shock, the rest, whatever.

Let me give you an example, last night we were doing Xy’mox, once 75% adds will appear, also some that require interrupting.

I literally use TAB to target them, but I find it close to impossible to sometimes find where they are. I expect a nameplate like the one I see on a dummy, clear red, but there’s so much effects ongoing, on the floor, in the airs, anywhere, I loose SO MUCH time (wasting) actually finding what I need to target.

Either I use the wrong nameplate, or setting, I just want to know how to improve this so I get better.

In M+ the same, esp. big packs, I just want to see a CLEAR nameplate, not something I have to dig through to find, showing (in this case) Flameshock (and possibly how long), for casters a cast bar, and that’s it.

Are there any tips, or possible guides / other plate addons ?

You can get profiles and mods from wago .io.

You can import and export full profiles for Plater, so an option would be finding one online that you like and just importing that. You can then leave it as is, or tweak specific settings to be more to your liking.

Plater’s default for auras is that you list buffs and debuffs to exclude from being shown, rather than listing ones to show. To change that, in the Plater options (/plater) go to the Buff Tracking tab, then change the Aura Tracking Method to “Manual” (rather than the default of “Automatic”). You’ll then need to use the Add Buff and Add Debuff functions on the right of that same tab to add the buffs and debuffs you actually want to see.

For all of the other settings, it’s mostly a lot of messing around with them and seeing what they do. As you’ve seen you won’t really know how things will function until you go into a dungeon or raid and see it in action, though.

If it’s not already enabled, enable stacking nameplates on the General Settings tab, and make sure the distance between them is large enough that you can still see auras and cast bars (but no larger than it needs to be for those to be visible). That should make seeing and clicking on specific nameplates a lot easier.

I’d also suggest going to the Scriping and Modding tabs, and disabling everything. Then go through the list and enable things you actually think will be useful to you.

There’s a Plater mod for this season’s M+ affix (“Encrypted Affix Names & Colors”, search on wago .io) which changes the names and/or colours of the nameplates for the three relics. That makes them a lot easier to identify and target in packs. If you’re comfortable with doing so, you could use that as a basis for a similar mod for priority targets in other fights (e.g. Xy’mox).

Another popular mod is “Last Name Only”, which changes the name to just the last word in the unit’s name.

Cheers will have a go at that.

Thnx also for the Encrypted Affix, since that is painful doing manually or using TAB.
