Hi all!
(first of all, sorry my english, I am spanish)
I have a problem with group member nameplates when doing mythic, bgs, raids, etc.
When I am out of that content, whether in a group or not (outdoor) they are seen according to the addon I have.
I have tried several: tiddy plates, thread plates, KUI, and it happens to me with all.
But when I group a certain content, it transforms me to those that come by default from Blizzard.
It is very rare, because the enemy bars do not transform, they continue according to the installed addon.
And if it is not too much to ask, you can recommend an addon so that, on the bars of the members of the group, the debuffs that I can dispel appear.
Thank you and have an amazing day!
Blizzard restricted changing friendly nameplates in dungeons and raids a few years ago so addons weren’t allowed to change them. There isn’t a fix for this or an addon that will help as this is intended.
Thank you so much bro!
Have a nice day!
I think it was changed in 7.2, due to some issue with anchors being abused on some bosses.
Yes if i remember correctly it has something to do with auto marking players at star augur in the nighthold. In dungoens it is best practice to give every player a marker and disable friendly nameplates (shift + v).
It’s really annoying tbh, We’re all suffering from this decision because of one raid boss? revert it back…
No shortage of those.
Thanks for the answers.
And what addon do you recommend to dispel?
Thank you
Depends on your playstyle really, whether you want to be staring at an addon all of the time of if you like to mouseover instead.
Some people like Clique (which can be bound to both unit frames and mouseovers), or healing frames of various types, been a while since I’ve healed but Grid, Healbot and Decursive used to be quite popular, Vuhdo is a possibility too if you want to go down that route, though I find it a bit heavy.
Though I no longer heal, as a tank there’s still plenty to dispel so I go with Clique for various things as well as dispelling. You could also just stick to macros and/or WeakAuras if you want a lightweight solution.
Thank you!
The problem is that the nameplates could be abused in a way that trivializes range checks and player positioning.
While that one boss might be the reason it was removed, there would always be dungeon or raid mechanics that could be trivialized by this.
I don’t know what those bosses did and how the player name-plate add-ons trivialized the encounters, because I didn’t know WoW during that time. However, couldn’t Blizzard just add some restrictions to the player name-plate API so that it cannot be used for whatever was deemed as too useful, rather than completely disabling it in raids/dungeons? It seems like they were lazy and just hot-fixed an issue, and never bothered implementing a clean solution.
The default name-plate renderings are so damn ugly! I use ElvUI and I really like how it can make player name-plates look in the open world. But because I hate having the game switch between good-looking name-plates and the ugly default name-plates depending on which type of content I’m doing, I just turned off ElvUI’s player-nameplate feature completely for the sake of having consistency.
I really wish Blizzard could revisit the player name-plate API.
