can i get a CLEAR list of naming policy rules? im getting sick of having to rename my things out of blue just because a few of thin-skinned people triggered your stupid system that requires 10 reports to flag something for a rename. As a customer i also demand pointing out which rule my guild name violated. Is everthing thats not rainbow, sweet disney name going to be flagged?
Its my understanding that it doesnāt flag it for a rename, it flags it for a GMās review, and the GM then decides if you need to be forced to rename or not.
To add to Trovlakās post above, you can appeal this action. If found to be unjust, it will be reversed.
You can take a look at the naming policy here though it will point to the broad conduct rules:
Cool, these rules apply to technical aspects of the name, length spaces etc. Code of conduct https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/42673 is a joke it basically states ālmao it might violate the rules or it might not, were gonna decide for You xDā
In all my years of playing, Iāve never had a forced rename, either of a character or my guild.
But then I donāt try and push the boundaries of edginess. Most of the time I just sneeze on the keyboard, then rearrange it slightly until I can pronounce it.
Iāve never been asked to change my name. I did have a I REALLY wanted denied because it was āinappropriateā. I had to talk to a GM about it, and they pointed out that the name contained a series of letters that were banned. Iāll be honest, I hadnāt even noticed that particular series of letters. Not only that, this particular series of letters were not remotely offensive tbh, but I accepted the GMās response that it might offend someone. *
Nowadays, I see some absolutely vulgar language making its way through the Name Filter (which ofcourse I report), which I am surprised isnāt immediately filtered out like my non-offensive name choice was.
*edit - this was back in the days when you could actually have a live in-game conversation with a GM, and not a 31 day wait for automated messages.
I have, a few months ago. I logged in, spoke in trade, nothing bad, 20 seconds later I was forcibly logged out and had to change my name after I logged back in again. So it does force a rename not flag it.
Tbf, If youāre on Argent Dawn, there are harder rules on that set in RP realms, so if those dudes there report it, its prob because it goes against the rules.
Shouldve mentioned it, the guild was on kazzak EU
Ah, fair enough.
remember this game is pg 13 so you gotta name yourself accordingly. just stay clear of edgy or offensive names and you should be good.
Naming
Names are subject to the same rules established above. Any name the player has the ability to customizeāsuch as player names, BattleTags, and guild namesāmust be appropriate and inoffensive. Any name that violates our standards or disrupts the community will be changed, and additional limitations may be placed on the offending account per our discretion.
Take note that acceptable names are determined by player reports and Blizzardās decision, and role-playing servers may have distinct standards for using game-appropriate names.
It basically says nothing offensive and that in the end it is determined by player reports being reviewed by blizzard.
which means any name can be potentially banned if it gathers certain amount of reports. Vague, lazy and imprecise āruleā
Well what is offensive to people is decided by people, not Blizzard. So when reports come they just check to make sure if the reports are legit or are being abused.
And if you feel like youāve been flagged wrongfully you can appeal a name change via a ticket.
Then they uphold the ban on a name and after the 3rd or 4th try they actually say it was not bannable in the first place, and by that time they didnāt add it to the banned list as they should and someone else gets it, so they canāt change it back.
They did apologise and give me a free pet.
Would rather have some of my names than a pet imo.
Iāll tell you something weird that happened to me in TBC. I logged in one day and my name was changed to āsarkonā I didnāt ask for the name. I wasnāt compromised. Blizzard said they didnāt do it and no services or gm did it.
The gm argued with me for 20 mins claiming that I was lying and that was my name to start with , It wasnāt. I then showed him proof. He confirmed that nobody had been on my account and nobody name changed it. It was when name changing first came out(Unless I remember wrong), bug maybe? He ended up changing it back in the end and saying sorry.
Update, i got an answer form GM:
Racial / Ethnic Hatred:
This category includes both clear and masked language and/or links to websites containing such language or images which:
Promote racial/ethnic hatred
Are recognized as a racial/ethnic slur
Allude to a symbol of racial/ethnic hatred
So apparently mentioning the word āracismā is either promoting hatred, a slur or alludes to a symbol(?) of hatred. Maybe its masked racism ? What a time to be aliveā¦
Makes me wonder what the name was now, Brapphog.
You are having issues probably because you are trying to sound like an edgelord. Good, I hope people continue reporting you. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
I really hope i keep getting reported tbh. This isnt about a certain name anymore although i really dont see anything wrong with a bit of edginess. GM responses are just template answers, links to articles and naming rules i violated i asked for in the ticket explicitly are not being provided. All i got was this http://blizzard.com/company/legal/eula.html which BARELY mentions anything about names and it also redirects you to some other URL.
Anyway im really baffled and unhappy with lack of clear rules and improper execution of these hidden set of policies. People get flagged for rename for name X and when u armory search for that name theres plenty of people using it. It shouldnt be ahrd to implement such trigger or w/e is used in the database to flag all these names and ban their future use. Instead its not being implemented and causes outrages when someone gets flagged and he can CLEARLY see others using the name freely. Naming policy memes go far far back in time - since Blizzard implemented the silence system in 2016 or so. Itās been going on since then as far as i remember. You can even see extreme cases when someone gets dcd from RBG cus of arranged mass report / someone gets silenced for saying literally a simple sentence of āi like cakesā tier. Look it up on youtube. These cases are less sever now a days but the system is still imperfect.
To sum it up its all cool untill it happens to you and you basically cant do anything aginst it.
