Hey friends, I’m a little bit paranoid since bans seem to happen more often in the past few months. Now I am aware that most of these people that got hit by the 6 month ban were using model editing software or similar things, but I’ve heard rumors about people who got banned for using the Narcissus Addon. Now I’ve used it for a few days, uninstalled it just recently, but really enjoyed using it and would love some confirmation, whether or not that addon is fair use and won’t get me banned or not.
I’ve actually been wondering about this myself, and with some searching I’ve so far counted seven people that reported being ‘banned for botting’ while claiming not to have done so, and the only thing they seem to have in common is that all of them have Narcissus Installed… Needless to say, i think it’s too risky to be using it right now.
I’d really suggest you to uninstall the addon and refrain from using it at least until the dust has settled a bit. Ideally a statement from Blizzard whether the bans were issued on purpose, or if they were a mistake would help clear this up.
I checked and Narcissus doesn’t seem to contain any files that would be bannable. Haven’t checked the code but you realy can’t put there anything that can’t be done using just ingame chat. Maybe those that were banned don’t tell everything they did.
I also checked the code and found nothing out of the ordinary. However 7 people reporting being banned ‘for no reason’ and all of them only having Narcissus in common makes me weary of the addon.
Anti-cheat isn’t perfect, and it could very well be a mistake by their systems. However i don’t think it’s rational to continue using the addon and risk being banned unless Blizzard clears this up.
Pretty much impossible that those bans are linked to the use of an addon. Addons can only do things within limits imposed by the game developers. None of those things are going to trigger any anti-cheat systems.
Looking around on reddit there’s also more people that claim they didn’t get banned despite using this addon than people claiming they got banned with this addon as the only common denominator.
As for waiting for a blue response, I don’t think it will happen any day soon.
Thats the ideal outcome.
“I didnt do anything” isnt all too rare, remember when you were kids and broke something precious to mum? It was all the dogs/cats/neighbours/friends fault.
Well sorry but I’m not going to take your word for it. It’s not that I don’t believe you, it’s just that there’s too much of a risk in believing you, even if the chance is very slim that you’re wrong.
If my post is good enough to be moved by a blue, I’m sure it’s good enough to receive a response, right?
Highly doubt it’s due to this addon, simply because addons are restricted to what Blizzard allows them to do. Addons do not change system/game files, they can’t unless you changed something which you shouldn’t.
There are more reports of players having some files left behind in their folders from way back when they used launchers/software to do some modding , which were now picked up by Warden.
