Hello Community,
I was wondering if anyone had any insight on the following:
So from reading the blue announcement regarding TBC Classic, we can decide (for free) which direction to go (stay classic or move on to TBC). and for a fee, we can clone any character to do the opposite of what was elected for free. However, I noticed that your character will remain on the same realm. Therefore, let’s just say our realm is currently barely breathing (Medium pop, but basically dead without the raid loggers), and you chose to move on to TBC, but then clone 1 or more characters to remain in the Classic world. That clone now will remain in a server that will now most likely be “beyond dead”. So after that very expensive cloning option, and to actually still play Classic (beyond solo leveling), you’ll need to fork over money again to transfer said clone to a more populated server. Am I missing anything here? Does this sound remotely accurate?
I was actually hoping Blizzard would take all the Clones and fill up servers (perhaps 3 servers into 1 depending on the numbers).
Blizzard said somewhere that they will merge/connect/… era servers at some point, “if” (and we know this will be the case) they get too empty. However, I assume they will make some money with paid transfers to higher pop realms first…

Am I just qqing too much here or is this beyond crazy? The cloning is already very expensive. I have 6 x 60’s and maybe 2 or 3 I would like to have in both worlds. At least with the expensive cloning, there are no rules like there are for transfers. So after cloning, whereby I put all my gold on 1 guy (or spread it over the characters I may want to clone), I then have to pay for a server transfer in order to continue the Classic experience with rules attached like how much gold you can bring with you… I’m at a loss for words if that’s the case. Or just pay now for the cloning and wait until Blizzard merges (if and when that will ever take place)? Or can we pay for the Clone at any time since the snapshot will be frozen in time?
You can clone at any time, it says so in the faq. But it will still be the snapshot that is taken around prepatch
I guess that could help, but you wouldn’t necessarily know how it’s going on the server without being there (I guess population reports…) Can you link me the faq page pls? I can’t seem to find anything but the announcement post. Thanks.
Wait another one of these posts, already?
I’ll just say what I say usually.
If you are on firemaw you will move or copy to firemaw-classic. There has been no official post about connecting realms.
I highly doubt they will merge them, and yes, it is different, merging and connecting.
Thanks for that… very productive. As you can see with my thousands of posts, I don’t spend my days on the forums. I did however spend 20 mins or so to see if what I addressed here was in the first couple of pages. I didn’t see anyone addressing the potential dead classic server that your clone would remain on and then potentially having to pay some more to go onto a busy server. All the complaints were strictly the costs of cloning. My sincere apologies if I didn’t take more time to analyze all the forums
Don’t worry about Dottie.
That’s what he usually does.
However you will most likely be stuck on a quite dead realm if the realm is already struggling with player numbers now.
I do think they’ll merge servers but then again they haven’t really been good at merging ‘dead’ servers during the Classic lifetime either so who honestly knows.
As was pointed out earlier in the thread I don’t expect Blizz not wanting to cash in on server-transfers first before eventually merging servers.

I don’t know Firemaw status. All I know is my current server is basically dead now. How bad will it be once the majority of the population leave? Would it be smart to pay to clone a character with 500 people remaining on it? Would it be smart to do that, and then pay again (leaving gold with the 2k cap) to find a more populated server since you highly doubt they will merge anything? I was just looking for any insight on this topic. Not sure many people connected the dots that their Classic Clone would be in a non-raidable server once everyone left.
If you say 50%, which is an optimistic number, go into classic forever then the population will halve.
Personally I don’t think so, and doing it in hope of a connection is a bit hit and miss, as I’m not even sure which language your realm is.
A few have, the guilds will need to merge to get raiding up and running.
I just looked and you are on the French PvP realms, which have a total population of around the same as the highest English PvP realm.

It’s a blog not a faq sorry
" Clones are created from a snapshot just prior to the Burning Crusade Classic pre-expansion patch and will not include any additional progress from that point on. This means that if you continue to play your WoW Classic character for some months after and unlock the clone at a later date, it will not include any additional progress past the point of the original capture of your character."
Also a bit to notice is the “for all time” which I think means no transfers off the Classic forever realms to TBCC.
The list shows that my server Finkle has less than half of Firemaw. Regardless, this list is compiled based on raiding activity. (" Population of active raiders according to [WarcraftLogs]"). I assume if you participate in a 2h naxx clear once a week, you are considered as active! It’s a miracle if we have a HoH buff every couple of days as the only ZG runs are for idols and mounts. LFG chan is just flooded with boosting messages, etc. So yeah, I guess my question was answered, pretty big chance my clone(s) will be on a dead server assuming most migrate to TBC and then I have to pray Blizzard merges, or pay again to be in a populated server.
I use the addon and every time I log onto Pyrewood Village it takes a full census 10-60, and there are usually 300+ new players, and I don’t wipe the data ever. Pyrewood has less of a population on ironforge pro than the best PvP realm.
There is a faq with more detail… I knew I saw it somewhere
No transfers to tbcc, but I assume you can clone your snapshotted character at any time in the future.
I think you can but as you said, it will be from the snapshot so you lose any Classic forever progress.
This is dumb AF
- Activating a clone on a Classic Era realm type does not give you a choice of realm
- Your character will remain on the same realm it was before pre-patch. For example, if you played on Ashbringer in WoW Classic, you can activate your character on Classic Era Ashbringer, or on Progression Ashbringer, or pay to activate both
- If you want to transfer to another realm, you can purchase a [Character Transfer]service from the character selection screen
PS: So you pay 35$ for a copy and another 25$ to transfer realm with 2k gold
W T F is this garbo
It’s obvious why it’s done like that, otherwise people all transfer to a busy realm from an empty one and clog it up.
you must be funny af irl
Do you think classic era will have more then 2 servers with healthy population?
