Your ilevel is 194. 3.8K doesn’t seem crazy for 194.

I went to Warcraft Logs to see the numbers, and there isn’t even a category for ilevels below 203 in the current raid.

Looking at

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/statistics/28/#difficulty=1&boss=2423&bracket=1

then Retadins 203-205 were doing from 5,770 down to … 105 DPS :stuck_out_tongue: with the Median at 2.8K

You can put some gems into those empty sockets and get enchants for your items - and especially pick up some better trinkets! - to get your theoretical numbers up.

See Icy Veins https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/retribution-paladin-pve-dps-gems-enchants-consumables for the genms and enchants you want. But honestly, I wouldn’t get too excited, or spend too much gold, on the best stuff just now, until you get some highet ilevelr gear.

but as i know ppl do like 10k dps
any tips to improve my dmg? on gear or whatever

Higher ilevel gear will get you more DPS.

The whole of WoW end-game is about getting progressively higher ilevel gear, working your way up to whatever is the top item level at the time - about 250 at the moment.

You can get better gear from

a) Korthia, with a lot of grind
b) Mythic-Plus dungeons, with a fair bit of grind, and rejections
c) Raid Finder (LFR) will get you 213s, which is not a huge upgrade

But even then, just because a computer simulation says that your gear can do 3.8K if played perfectly with all buffs, flask, potions against a dummy who isn’t fighting back doesn’t mean that you will do 3.8K when the ground is exploding all around you and you are trying to avoid the damage. My best guess at your actual DPS will be 60%-80% of your possible damage, so 2.2K-2.8K-ish.

Since 9.2 is about three weeks away, I’d focus on trying to get those trinkets up, from wherever you can find them - world quests, Korthia, Maw Invasions … even Heroic Dungeons will give you better than ilevel 130.

Yes it is because of gear only. Do not worry about dps unless you have best gear you can possibly get be it normal /hc/mythic raid or just doing m+. Also loggs are irrelevant due to external buffs, especialy for rets, If i had necro banner+power infusion on every wings that is like 3-5k more dps.

wrong. its about 257-258 depending on class. and that is total item lvl. not just one item higher. its the total. its actually insane. 250 atm is low end of whats considered ok.

Here’s what I did when I played and it has gotten me some very good damage out puts, enough to get top 100 logs sometimes so I feel like it should probably work for you.

1- Read you class abilities, talents and passives thoroughly and understand them
2- Visit any popular guide website, icy-veins for example and read the guide
3- Try practicing what you learn on target dummies abit, then take it to normal dungeons to get a feel for things
4- Watch intensive youtube video guides on how to play your spec properly, understand them, usually youtube videos put by skilled players from high end raiding guilds, you can also watch twitch and see how they play in real time
5- Talk to good players in game, ask them questions on how they deal with things

Now comes the most important step

6- Take what you learned and go to the practice dummies, try to do what you learned and slowly apply your own style, spend a lot of time on the practice dummy and try many things out, try to squeeze as much as you can and limit test things to the maximum

You need to get to a point where you can do your rotation without thinking or stressing about it.

7- Take it to a real environment, M+ or raids however don’t focus on dpsing, just play on auto mode ( without thinking about maximizing dps or your dps rotation ) and make sure to learn the fights and mechanics 100% properly.

8- plan according to the fights you learned and now focus 100% on maximizing dps while executing the tactics you have learned, limit test as much as you can.

9- practice makes perfect, keep practicing on dummies, easier versions of the raids / m+ etc

All in all, target dummies are your best friends, spend a lot of time practicing on them and you will do some very good numbers.

sadly wow is not so much about skill, but gear. having good gear has a far higher impact than being good. . but being good with good gear is far better than being bad.

I know a friend in 212 gear as a ret pala who can keep up with people in 240+ gear so that is not true at all.

well there is lvls of being bad as well. lets not confuse being bad with a stinker.
Bad =30-50% performance. good = high 70-100. below 30% is just stink. there is no execuse, u died or u didnt care or u were given a special task. no player that actually tryes to dps should deliver 30% or below if he only need to dps… so yea… stinkers yea those are around, but u might as well dont count them in, they dont matter at all
