Need some help with my backstory!

(My forums are being weird and won’t allow me to select the correct character)
Hi!
I’ve always been super causal up to this point and I haven’t actually tried RP much. So I would like to change that and make a new main RP character that I can really learn the lore on etc and have her make sense  but I’m not making it easy on myself!

I really want to make a Void Elf monk and I was wondering if my backstory would work?

I was thinking of going with something along the lines of an orphaned blood elf who joined a void cult that were obsessed with the void and their whispers and powers who convinced her to join them. Along with the cult they were exiled from Silvermoon, the cult leader turned on her as before she turned into the void she was doubtful of the cult leader and their promises and diluisions of power. The leader then turned mad with the void and tried to kill her and leave her for dead but she was found by a panderan monk who brought her to pandaria and healed her wounds and taught her about peace and energy and helped her control her temptions of the whispers and find inner peace in her new life and as a monk.

Does that backstory work? :disappointed_relieved:

Any suggestions I’d be extremely grateful!

If I remember right, lore-wise all of the current void elves joined Magister Umbric’s group and were saved by Alleria. But I love the creativity of the story, and I’m sure there were a few void following groups that came after Umbric’s. Love it, that’s all.

Beware of the timeline with this story. Unless I am mistaken, the playable void elves were exiled from Silvermoon as far back as at the end of The Burning Crusade.

Pandaria was discovered years after this.

Then the event that “created” our playable void elves, happened only about a year ago (or less?), during Legion(?).

Perhaps the cult you mentioned, was formed after Pandaria was discovered? Maybe even after the void infusion incident? (To include you in that event, unless your void elf became void infused in some other occurrence.)

However, if you were void-infused in the same incident as the other void elves, perhaps you do not have enough time to spend in Pandaria?

I am not knowledgeable in alternative ways of becoming a void elf, so I won’t go into that… Although in the Warcraft universe I suppose pretty much anything is possible under the right circumstances, and with the right kind and amount of magic

So to make it fit correctly with the lore if the cult she joined was more recent to fit with her becoming a monk, and weren’t exiled from silvermoon with the rest how else can I tweek it  If it was a newer cult of blood elf’s looking for the void maybe they all just left to go in search for it and the events take place that way instead of getting exiled? Could that work?

Thank you for the help as well!

Maybe you could be a young quel’dorei who witnessed the Scourge wreaking havoc in Quel’Thalas, grew up to become a sin’dorei, studied under Magister Umbric to ultimately transform into a ren’dorei, and now seeks enlightenment through entropy? A ren’dorei monk could take the empty palm technique to a whole new level!

Way I’d do it, to keep it consistent, Your Elf was basically a Blood Elf. They learned the ways of the Monk when Pandaria was discovered, but they wanted a different type of power, they heard of a group exiled years before, who were studying the Void and sought them out, started learning from Magister Umbric, and became a Void Elf the same time as the rest.

Reason I say that is that whilst Umbric’s lot were exiled a while back, we can pinpoint exactly -when- they became Void Elves, because it is Alleria who saves them from Durzaan, so it has to have been after Legion, but before BfA.
We don’t yet know whether more Void Elves can be created, yes there are people at Telogrus -studying- the Void, but they aren’t training to become Void Elves, it was a magical accident, a freak set of occurrences, Alleria doesn’t know how to recreate that, Umbric doesn’t, the only entity who might have known was Durzaan, and he’s destroyed.

As it stands with lore right now, until we know if they -can- create more Void Elves, I’d go with you having been one of the original lot, simply because nobody knows what Durzaan was doing, and how it went wrong, because it was just that, a freak accident…

I find it very hard to believe Umbric’s group was exiled in BC.
We don’t have a confirmed timeline, but the dialogue suggests it should have been at least somewhat recently.

Weeks or months sound more reasonable then almost a decade. And they do have monks, so unless they just picked it up after joining the Alliance (which is plausible but meh) I’d say they were exiled after MoP, during either Legion or WoD.

My own guess would be during the Argus campaign or sometime before, during either Suramar or the Broken Shore.

When Alleria “recruits” the Ren’dorei, Umbric says, “Silvermoon turned its back on us long ago.” That seems like more than a few months to me, but you are right, there is no specific timestamp.

I do not remember when or where, but Rommath was quoted to have ordered the exile because he believed the void was a danger to the Sunwell, which (unless I have misunderstood) became infused with Light at the end of The Burning Crusade.

As this seems to have been Rommath’s attitude before Alleria kind of proved him right, I think it would not take him long to reach that decision, after this Light infusion of the Sunwell, and the knowledge that Umbric and his followers were researching how to use the void as a power to defend Quel’thalas.

I must admit I haven’t even thought about the monks… I have no explanation for that
Maybe it’s like you said; they learned it after joining the Alliance?
Or perhaps it took Rommath four years (from the end of TBC to after the Pandaren joined the Horde and the Alliance) to decide this void research was too dangerous… (Maybe the first few years of research were relatively fruitless?) So some of Umbric’s followers might have trained with (Pandaren) monks before the exile?

I go with them being exiled sometime between TBC and WOTLK, because then the Sunwell was restored and Rommath would probably rather soon suspect the Void research could be a threat, especially with Dar’khan Drathir being in quite fresh memory. There are Scarlet monks who have not been friends with the Pandarens afaik so I guess Blood elves could have learned some sort of martial art as well? Or have your character being new to it since they joined the Alliance, maybe as a way to find balance and keep focus away from the whispers

Edit: It would be weird for Umbric to say a few months is a long time ago, as above poster stated, and in the Nightborne recruitment scenario Rommath says they were exiled because he viewed them as a threat to the well, which was fixed in TBC.

The best, as always would be Blizzard giving a confirmation and - again, as always - they probably never will.

I wonder if we’ll ever get more lore on void elves. Or for allied races in general.
It would be a really big waste if Blizzard stopped caring for them and considered their storylines over as they’re recruited.

Aside from very small individual roles (for Thalyssra and Valtois) for the nightborne, I don’t think we’ve seen any allied race do anything at all after they joined a faction.

Sure, void elves popped out of a rift at Lordaeron, but did that give them any more lore? We already knew Lor’themar wasn’t a fan of them, we got literally nothing from his banter with Nathanos and Alleria.

I really would love to get maybe a short story or two and more named characters for void elves. I know that might be a tall order though.

I second this. Seeing how Alleria is a pretty big character overall though through the history and not made up with the allied race like Umbric, I hope at least Velves get some more depth.

I have the sad feeling, the Ren’Dorei will have the “Death Knight treatment”
We are new, we are cool… we will be forgotten for a dozen expansion where we will be butchered
Or sooner…
Aside from the Void Ethereals there will be an Old God on the loose… face it, the little voidlings, like us will be assimilated
Nice to delude ourself, but a friggin Dragon Aspect and his whole breed went coocoo when the Old Ones whispered to them… and then the were prisoners
Immagine that when one are free (and the other two are not-that-dead, the forth is strongly hinted coming back and never were shacled)

I, for one, welcome our new tentacled overlord :octopus:
Hail N’Zoth :squid:
