New Abilities / Talents / Redesign

Hey so I’m just getting my head around both MM and Survival, their Hero Talents and so on and yes, they did need a rework, but my feelings are mixed - on one hand, I knew some abilities had to be changed and updated, and Im eager to see the changes.

On the other hand, it feels too fast and that the changes are going to change the entire playstyle, making me wary it’s going to mess up something I came to terms with and enjoy.

Hunters, what do you think? What are your impressions after reading the Blizz post? Are you hopeful or wary? Are the new hero talents they mentiond what you were looking for?

I’m glad they try to change things. My current main is a bm and desperately needs the changes. So far it looks promising, just hope it gets tested enough

“They feel too fast”? My dear friend, thats what both Survival and Marksman dearly needed!

I like the soundof alot of changes but there’s one skill that bugs me the most which is:

Withering Fire has been redesigned – Every 4 casts of Bestial Wrath/While Trueshot is active, you surrender to darkness for 12 seconds. When you gain Deathblow, Black Arrow automatically fires at your target and two additional Black Arrows at 50% effectiveness.

So MM gets the bad end of the stick here, BM sounds fine but MM’s is locked behind a 2 min CD and you can easily reduce the CD of BW with BM’s skills where as MM is a little more long winded I feel… I dunno, will need to feel this one in motion before I can decide.

True! I just hope its for the better xD

Blizzard just want to destroy hunters. Surv aoe was based on butchery spam and reseting the cd on bomb. Now its gone. Dark ranger suits awesome for MM hunter. Now what ? black arrow - rename the kill shot. I dont care about changing its dmg to shadow. Old black arrow you can use anytime you need or want. It can proc withering fire, deathblow. Just awesome. New black arrow ? just wait for enemy % hp a spam aimed shot like an idiot like in the last three expansions. Garbage

I really like most changes, from the Marksman tree, to the Lunar Storm visual change (the bird no longer “poops” on enemies), and the Dark Ranger has improved a lot visual and gameplay wise.

The only change that I don’t really like is the new “Precise Shot” talent in combination with Multi-Shot/Rapid Fire/Trick Shots. It works well with Aimed Shot, because you shoot it, gain a stack of Precise Shot, cast Multi-Shot for half focus (so 15 instead of 30) to consume it, and then you use Aimed Shot again with Trick Shots, and so forth. It flows well.

But it doesn’t flow well with Rapid Fire anymore. Before, we used Multi-Shot, Aimed Shot, gain 2 stacks of Precise Shots. We used one stack for Multi-Shot at half focus for Trick Shots, then combo into Rapid Fire, use the other stack for Multi-Shot at half focus again for Trick Shots, and then proceed into Aimed Shot again.

Now, we use Multi Shot, Aimed Shot, gain only 1 stack of Precise Shot. We use one Stack for Multi-Shot at half focus for Trick Shots, use Rapid Fire, but we no longer have the second Precise Shot to consume for our Multi Shot at half focus, to combo into Trick Shots with Aimed Shot anymore.

My suggestion is either revert it to two stacks, or even better, have Rapid Fire no longer “consume” a stack of Trick Shots. This way, it flows way better in my opinion.

Also, I wonder if the new “Pin Cushion” talent (-2sec Aimed Shot CD) isn’t just way stronger than “Improved Steady Shot” (10 extra focus). Our rotation will be smoother (and faster), but that means we also starve for focus a bit more. It does works well with Sentinel, but Dark Ranger kinda hungers for Focus with all those Black Arrow procs. My suggestion for this, is to make Black Arrow procs to cost no Focus. It seems little, but you save 30 Focus if it procs 3 times in a row.

Sorry for my long explanation, I rather explain in detail than not to be clear. But I really do appreciate the talent changes and especially the Dark Ranger overhaul. Thanks Blizzard!

None of the Surv AoE was nerfed though, it was instead buffed xD
Butchery was buffed by quiet a lot, and now ALSO puts a bleed for 750% on all targets hit. It also STILL resetts the bombs cd by a sec per target hit.

The new Black Arrow is also WAY better then the old one xD You can actually reset it easier now than before, and it synergizes with a ton of MM talents in the botton left like Razor Fragments etc.
Black Arrow can be freely cast with the targets hp being above 80 or below 20%, which is really nice and you you are gonna reset its cooldown for a free cast all the time during your standard rotation anyway.

maybe it resets the cd of bombs, but 3 charges are gone and cd is 15 sec. that is nerf. ok i didnt know bleed is 750%, there was only “bleed for huge dmg”. And black arrow isnt better. Because of timing. They just delete 1 ability. Black arrow

Survival changes have potential. The bleed is HUGE. Like butchery now does as much damage as 5 old butcheries huge. I think it’s nice not going to have to spam 2 spells over and over as much and because DoTs don’t have a target cap big AoE is probably going to be crazy. Finally an AoE bleed for the bleed attack speed talent too.
Big win for survival AoE.

However. Because it’s such big damage you are going to have to skill it for single target too. Which in a way is nice because it means you don’t have to choose between the two. But having to spend those 2 extra talent points for raiding is going to hurt, where are you going to cut 2 points from the current talents? It’s time to shrink the 2 point nodes in the top of the tree so we have space for butchery on single target.

Not sure how I feel about the butchery / merciless blows changes as I like the current one, building up mongoose fury and then going nuts with butchery/mongoose for aoe.
I like the playstyle of it, the new butchery looks… well… boring. One button push and then you have to wait for 15 seconds.

Not a very engaging playstyle.
But will see how it turns out.

This is my concern aswell and I hope they stick with the default 2 stacks of Precise Shot. Losing both the 2nd stack of PS and Eagletalon’s True Focus is going to be a big dps loss too during our burst window.

Precise shots being reduced to 1 stack is a good change, especially for single target. For AOE going from 75 → 100% will make up for having to cast an unempowered MS after every rapidfire, since the second precise shot is almost always wasted in AOE windows anyways.

During trueshot its a problem though since rapidfire has such a short CD there, you will be casting quite many unempowered MS.

Withering fire for MM is also a total joke, good thing 11.0.5 is a long way to go. Many changes should come for Hunters.

BM still actually needs to get to 4 Beastial Wraths first, while MM can start bursting the second they use their first cd.

Precise Shots being one stack wont matter in Trueshot anyway, cause we all picked the “Repeat Arcane shot/Multishot, when in Trueshot” talent anyway…

Withering Fire looks to be REALLY good for Marksman Hunters, if all our Killshot talents work with it:

  • 25% crit damage from Improved Deathblow
  • 20% crit strike chance and crit damage from Killer Accuracy
  • 75% damage and 25% shred on 5 targets from Razor Fragments

Its just autodeathblows for 15 sec during trueshot, so all you really get from it is saving the 2-3 globals from black arrow/KS that you normally get, meaning something like 1-2 extra aimed shot during the window.

Hardly groundbreaking.

And it also shoots dark arrows onto 2 other targets, that SHOULD trigger razor fragments themselves, because as its written you fire 2 additional arrows at 50% efficiency.
It should also smooth our rotation during Trueshoot.
