New account question

I have a very old battle.net account which contains a few merged WoW accounts. One of these WoW accounts is inactive (ie no sub) and has all my gold. Another WoW account is active (but has no gold).

As an aside I believe I can post on these forums due to one of my WoW accounts being active (the one without any gold).

I want to make a new battle.net account with a new WoW account on it. I would like to use the stored gold on the other battle.net/WoW account to buy game time and also, maybe, transfer a high level character over. When Dragonflight is released, I presume I will be able to buy it and all previous expansions.

So my plan is this:

  1. wait for Dragonflight to be released
  2. buy Dragonflight on the new battle.net/WoW account (which is the same price as if I had bought it on any other account)
  3. somehow use the gold on the inactive account to fund a character transfer and maybe extra game time on the new account

Is this possible?

Is there a way to do this without spending any real money?

But the problem of free trials is

  • Can’t open a mail

  • Can’t get trade

  • Can’t use AH

  • maximum 1k gold in free trials, and you can’t get more

you could try ticket support, they helped me out a bit a long time ago with transferring some stuff off my old vanilla account onto a new one despite it not having active playtime.

keep in mind the vanilla account was hacked… so i guess it was special circumstances.

EDIT: if i remember right they gave me like 7 days free playtime to sort my stuff out on that vanilla account once they restored it from being hacked so i could log onto it and arrange what i wanted to transfer over.

was back in legion though so was a while ago.

i did not transfer any gold though…

as there was none the hackers took it all lol.

When Dragonflight launches, I will have to buy it, regardless on which account, and it will be the same price on a trial account or not. It will also give me one month’s subscription.

So at that time I will have Dragonflight + 1 month sub on the new battle.net/WoW account.

Then I will want to transfer one character and gold from the old and inactive wow account to the new wow account - without paying real money if possible.

I think it cannot be done…

they will help you if the accounts are linked…

but i do not think there is a way to transfer characters between unlinked accounts

you could ofc just avoid all this hassle… and buy just 1 month of playtime and a transfer…

transfer whatever gold u wont in game using alts if ur on the same realm…

… what is stopping you using real money?

I’d just not bother with a new account and keep just buy Dragonflight on the old account. I say this as someone who had their old account permanently deleted so had to start a fresh one to play again.

Is there any particular reason you want to do this on a fresh account when you already have an active account (even if no sub)?

Yes, my son is using the old battle.net account, which has two wow accounts on it, and we keep logging each other out!

Also, I want a new battle.net account to be completely isolated.

But I want to keep real money spend to minimum. The inactive wow account has 1.5ml gathering dust and all classes at level 60.

I am waiting to hear from Blizzard whether they can de-merge the two wow accounts, if yes, we are sorted. If not, I will have to get a new battle.net and wow account.

My understanding is if you starting a fresh isolated account I don’t think what you want can be done. You also wont be able to transfer the one specific toon. Though support will be better equipped to respond this.

However the two current wow accounts can be merged into each other. The only solution is to merge the two then create the new one and have you son post/trade the gold to your new account.

The two current wow accounts are already merged under the old battle.net account.

Because it is one battle.net account, we keep logging each other out, and I suspect it is the battle.net launcher to blame for this.

In addition, I want to split, de-merge the two wow accounts, so my son and I would be completely isolated. If that cannot be done (as the two wow accounts share heirlooms, mounts etc), then I would have to start with a brand new battle.net + wow account.

What is tricky is how to move gold and/or characters from inactive WoW account to brand new battle.net/wow account. If the new toon is on the same server, then I could transfer the gold using the AH. But I would have to re-sub for at least one month in order to do this. One month’s sub is currently 330K gold !!!

I am not sure if I can use gold to do a character transfer too.

I hope this explains my situation better.

you cannot play 2 accounts at the same time on a merged account…

that is why you keep getting logged out.

same reason you cannot play retail and classic at the same time on one account.

a merged account acts as a single account even if it is effectively 2 accounts.

the upside to merging a account is it allows you to freely(well not freely) transfer characters between the two accounts…

so i suggest before you de-merge them … try to transfer all the characters you want to .

buuut, you can do 1 thing, merge the accounts and then create a linked one that will keep any achievements etc. idk how the situation is for characters but i think there must be smth about character transfer or idk.
