New build same FPS?

Hi everyone.

I’m getting really puzzled at a recent update I made.
My old 2016 build was becoming out of date (to say the least) as it couldn’t even officially handle windows 11. The only “recent” piece it had was a 3060ti that I bought to replace the old 960.

I gotta say that my system was handling wow fine, my i5 6600k was handling all in ultra and in dornagol it barely went below 45/50 FPS.

My new mb is a b650 paired with a 7600x. Although not high end it should be significantly better than the old rig.

Still… I get more or less the same FPS numbers. Perhaps a slight 5/10 FPS tops… In dornagal I’m still getting 50/51 +/-…

Is this …normal? I’ve always heard wow was much more heavy for the cpu than the GPU.

Thanks in advance for all replies

WoW doesn’t like multicore processors (ie most of them)

Engine is so old that it mostly only draws from one core

I get better performance from Cyberpunk on ultra than I do with WoW

Yes, when you want increased FPS you’ll nead to step up to a X3D processor from AMD due to their 3D L3 Cache architecture.
It’s too much stuff in WoW, or in MMOs in general, for “regular” CPUs to push high FPS, especially since WoW runs mostly on one single core. The heavy stuff is calculated by one CPU Core, and besides the X3D CPUs from AMD (honestly I don’t know if Intel has catched up on that by now) there’s nothing you can throw at WoW to gain high FPS (above 60) in scenarios like Dornogal, Raids, PvP etc.
Or lower game settings, as an alternative. But that is somethng you have to test if you can live with that.

Can confirm a X3D from AMD makes wow soar.
I run 120fps in most areas ever since I upgraded and rarely see drops.
Yet a similar system with an intel CPU just…chokes.

I dont know much about hardware but that’s the prime reason of why i moved to Classic.

When I changed my pc in 2019 with an investement of 2k €, as soon as Shadowlands came out i had performance loss in mythic raid and in Dragonfligth if i logged in Valdrakken i had to wait 30-sec 1 min to the game loading all assets (i remember i could not go to the pvp vendor because the building was empty and black)

In meanwhile my pc still runs greatly BG3, Hogwarts Legacy and Total War Warhammer 3

i have 2 pcs one amd and the othe one is nvidia.
amd allways gives me more frame rate. as you see in the others opinion/
btw check if your graphic cart is good for your monitor resolution.
some cards are not build for 4k or big resolutions

What refresh rate is your monitor?
If it’s just a 60Hz or something, then even though your GPU can support much faster, your FPS won’t go up unless you get a new monitor.

I too upgradef my pc
Got a b650 motherboard paired with ryzen 9600x , nvidia 4070, 64 gb ddr 5 and everything works fine. I have no lag from game except when i accept teleports in zone i have not been yet this ecpansion and thats because the addon " all the things" after few 2-3 seconda everything runs fine again

Thats makes me happy to read as I am expecting delivery today of my processor I ordered on 23rd December.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D 8-Core 16-Threads 3.0GHz (4.1GHz Max Boost) Socket AM4 105W Desktop Processor / 100MB GameCache / 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Desktop Processor

But reading B550 I am bit worried I may have chosen the wrong MB

MSI A520M-A PRO Series Motherboard

Hope this still works for me as I mostly upgraded due to massive FPS loss in raids and PvP.

Nope, your MB is fine.
I’m running an Ryzen 9 7950X3D on a B550 board, the MSI Carbon Wifi.
And everything just runs smooth.

Unless you’re really into overclocking stuff, a B550 board is more than enough.

I upgraded 2600x to 7600 on a b650 over Xmas, put my graphics up a level of quality (7 to 8) and I’m getting better fps and less lag. I can now do the Dornegal dragon race without lagging into obstacles

This will be largely down to the higher max clock speed - 4.2GHz on the 2600x, 5.2GHz on the 7600. I doubled the RAM from 16Gb DDR3 to 32Gb DDR5 and that has also helped.

Next upgrade is graphics as my current card is underpowered for the new CPU.

Dornogal (just like Valdrakken) is capped heavily by your CPU.

Given that high core low ghz cpus are becoming the norm, it’ll be interesting to see what impact this has on WoW in the long term.

We have been sitting at between 3 and 5 ghz for many years now, but the number of cores climbs.

You’ll be fine - I nearly went that route myself but wanted tye DDR5 and Nvme speed benefits of newer chipset as I use my PC for productivity as well.

TIme for WOW2. This engine is already dead and buried.

Yep just got it all today. Spent the whole afternoon tinkering and installing. Up and running like a dream baby. Even my graphics is so much better and clearer and I don’t have so much fog on my screen.

Erm I am just going to say no (have no clue what that means)

All that ppl said of newer multicore cpu is true, I had better fps with my old build on ancient i7 2600k oc’d to 5ghz than what I have with my new build on 9 year newer processor ryzen 5600x. GPU is still 3060 ti so I havent updated graphics card.

I could make single core run faster on my old cpu so it ran wow better, but it was coming to its end as its processor from year 2011 so I built new pc.

ghz is just one of many things that affects single core performance and you can’t compare ghz performance between brands or even 2 different generations.

Yes I’m aware, my point was more that the way modern CPUs is getting more performance, doesn’t help wow as much as more modern titles.
