New char 1-70 Shaman or Druid

I want to start leveling a new character from 1-70, with the focus on a role that is useful at max level so I was thinking either Feral tank druid or Shaman healer. I’d want it to be a pleasant experience 1-70 so my choice depends on that (I like questing).

So what class has the best utility and leveling speed or lowest downtime, right from the start? I’m very interested in trying druid as feral but the 1-20 experience seems weird, and Shaman is supposedly only fun from lvl 40, so here I am asking for advice

Oh and I won’t boost. Like I said I like questing and doing low lvl dungeons. I’m on a healty PvE server so ganking/pvp is not an issue.

Shaman ,you can go tank, dps and curing too.

While with druid you cannot be dps… You cannot be a boomkin

Finding a tank is the most difficult thing for dungeons, when you get to TBC content you can level 80% as a feral tank if you want

DPS shamans/druids specs can both heal with just healing gear, only when you get to Auchenai Crypts mobs start to really hit hard enough that you want an actual healing spec.

Guys thanks for the replies but this really doesn’t answer my question

I know the viability at max lvl / Outland of each class, I just don’t know how enjoyable they are from 1-60.

Druid is faster without a doubt, it’s only not enjoyable from 1-20 and is extremely fast if you buy Wolfshead helm and tons of Mana potions which are extremely cheap with paladins and mages farming low lvl dungeons.

Thanks for the reply!

Druid has a bit of a rough start, and shaman not. I also don’t think on shaman being much slower, as it also has a travel form and dps with dual weild is pretty good.

Personally I liked the playstyle of shaman more, but yeah.

Druids will probably be easier to solo elites.

You will have a very easy time finding dungeon groups as a feral druid. That is a big plus.

I think druid is the most fun leveling experience in the game.
Also, if you go feral tank, in outland and in the endgame you will be royalty.
I vote feral tank.

Can you elaborate on that? Is it because you only get cat form at level 20? I really enjoy the 1-20 zones so doing them with a weak char would be a bummer.

Also how gear dependant are both classes?

Druid is a very useful class with combat ress, Innerv, Tranquility, Mark and the overall flexibility. What it suffers at is that it’s a jack of all trades, master of none, unless you are a geared boomkin, and yes, 1-10 is pure suffering, 11-20 is a hellish slog. After that you’ll speed up nicely. As a bear you’ll have a huge HP bar and have a clear way to dodgetanking, plus can DPS with almost the same gear setup. The healing isn’t bad either as a tree.

For shammies, I can’t say much, but they are indeed slow until Stormstrike and dual wield, but with Windfury it will carry you to 70. Again, a ton of utility with totems, Bl/Hero, and a 6 sec kick. It cannot tank, however, unless you take a very specific loadout of talents and gear, and even then it’s extremely niche.

TL;DR: Since I haven’t seen many shammies (my PoV) and the two classes are roughly on par in usefulness, I suggest you roll one of those. Everyone can use a hero (to save me now - get the reference?)

Go druid. Fun. Easy leveling. At 70, 3 cheap clefthoof from ah and cenarion exalted, 2-3 honor off pieces and bam youre ready to tank anything.

Just 1 thing to consider, if you want to go for best gear you have to farm 50k+ honor every phase. If you like bgs it is not a big deal though.

Druid is one of the (by far) easiest classes to level up.
As feral you have close to zero downtime, very fast world travel and great solo potential.
Shaman is kinda slow, with some downtime or lower killspeed, but moves around fast in the world as well.
Don’t listen to those that say that “1-20 is bad on a druid”.
Yes it’s slower than cat form at 20, but shamans are equally as slow when you factor in downtime (which druids dont have from lvl 10).

At 70 things change.
A feral tank will have 0 issues getting into a dungeon or HC, but if you want to raid, the feral spots are usually taken as most guilds only bring one.
A resto shaman will not have too much issues getting into a dungeon or HC, but its no tank so there is waiting time.
For raiding however, every guild will be willing to recruit a resto shaman, so you will (by far) have the easiest time getting into raids out of any class/spec combinations out there.
Guilds are just that desperate for more shamans, and healers in particular.

Shaman It s Better in everything than druid, don’t listen these druids

this pretty much nails it but it is worth adding that droods make formidable healers too if ever you decide to try

got 3 lvl 60 druids and 1 70, can confirm it’s very easy to level past 20. No matter if you go full cat or moonkin. However… if you focus on questing only and no dungeons up to outlands, then moonkin spec is your best friend paired with starting by catbleed into moonfire into insect swarm mobs just fall over and you can just go to the next just like a warlock multidotting.

Okay thank for all the replies! I’ve decided on druid.

Good choice. Druid is probably the most useful class in the game.

They make for fantastic gatherers (swift flight is due soon), decent healers, reasonable damage dealers and fantastic tanks.

Not the best in any given role, but certainly always good for something.

Shaman ofc. Masterclass. Two hand only or 1h and shield. Dual wield is for boys

You will most likely have alot of fun with druid. You can even dps as cat, metaslaves will tell you no, though I’ve seen ferals beat metaclasses on the meters from time to time. Druid overall is a fantastic hybrid, I love my alt alot  have fun!!!
