New gpu (3060 vs 6700) / monitor (1440p?)

Hey there,

due to the finally dropped gpu prices after years ill want to upgrade the last things on my setup: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/G9dnrD

so i wanted to try getting a 1440p screen because that seems now good future invest, even tho ill dont mind still playing WoW in 1080p (depends on to low fps, maybe i can play stil in 1080p on new monitor?) and my gpu is 6 yo also

Game:
i love my addons in WoW even tho i rocking the CE mythics with that trash gpu and low fps :stuck_out_tongue: so TSM, WA and elvui loving sucking my fps :stuck_out_tongue: but shadows etc i tune down… so i dont need 100+ fps or ultra settings in wow. and i dont play other games with raytracing, ultrasettings or 4k titles… i game WoW and some ow2 + tft

Monitor:
the acer monitor via HMDI goes then as 2nd monitor, the current 2nd monitor i didnt found on the partpicker its like 15years old DVI  )-> the new main monitor will be the lg 27" with a IPS panel and 1440p (didnt found anything similar price wise ~ 250€ ) and as far i can tell ill should be then connecting it via DP? and 2nd monitor still with current HMDI.

GPU:
im not into hardware alot … but i looked into this doc and also some other websites and lists… thinking about the 3060 and ~400€ price range …i have alot of MSI stuff… so i thought about the 3060 gaming X … its also very high rated (sadly currently 20% higher price than other 2fans)also if it doesnt matter brand wise the those two 3fans from gigabyte seeming good rating too with same price as the msi gaming x 2fans ( vision OC ) or ( gaming oc )

last week ill got some other feedback… that the AMD GPUs are better than the 3060 with lower prices … or they are around a 3060TI ish. esp when choosen a 1440p monitor / game … there some different versions and manufactures but this is same price ish region, last 2-4 weeks they dropped 20% [for germany]: MSI Radeon RX 6700 XT MECH 2X 12GB GDDR 415€

.

sorry for all that backinfo  so any preferenced cards for my intel cpu and a 520W psu especially for WoW ? what about the monitor and 1080p vs 1440p ?.

Without knowing your system specs like CPU and RAM i cannot recommend anything.
If your CPU is as old as your GPU then you should probably replace that first for a huge performance improvement.

What is your current GPU?
You said you are running an Intel CPU, too bad… you could have easily replaced it with a 5600 Ryzen for cheap if you had an AM4 Board.

PS: warum postest du nicht im deutschen Forum? :stuck_out_tongue:

mein system ist der erste link…

und ich poste im englischen bereich weils theoretisch mehr leute gibt die antworten können.

I have RTX 3070 and it’s way more than needed for 3440x1440 (ultrawide 1440p). Your system will be somewhat CPU limited in mass combat scenarios so a better GPU will improve FPS noticeably only in widefield open world views (and partially in bugged instances/boss encounters where WoW floods the GPU with pixel shading, like in SoA sometimes ago). The only combat part it could improve is moments of mass particle effects.

RX 6700 XT is slightly below RTX 3070 (depends on the game) while the non-XT variant is a bit lower than that. Then we have 6600XT between RTX 3060 and 3060 Ti and 6600 non-XT around/somewhat below RTX 3060.

For performance overviews you can my benchmarks or the Hardware Numb3rs channel:

A good ol 970? I had one too for many years before i upgraded to a 2070S for 1440P/144Hz.
So you definately should replace the GPU first if you want to get a better display with 1440P and high refresh rates.
I would recommend a 3060 as minimum since the 2070S is already limiting on settings above 7 in 1440P if you are aiming for 144 FPS.

I just recently upgraded to the 5800X3D from a 3900X and my FPS doubled, now my GPU is the bottleneck
You can upgrade the CPU later, which you need to do for high refreshrates in WoW.
