So, I’ve been trying out a lot of different classes for the last couple of weeks and my Demonhunter is the one I have the most fun playing with.
I just hit level 60 with it and finished the campaign and have to choose a covenant.
I pretty much love the Nightfae ability but just don’t love the covenant itself.
I really do like the Necrolords but Fodder to the Flame is just meh. And I say that without even having been able to try it out, since it doesn’t seem to work in the leveling process.
What I really want to know is:
Is it fun to play with?
Do you guys think it will get another rework in 9.1?
What about Kyrian or Venthyr?
And do you guys have some tips for a new havoc player? What should I focus on? Which builds are viable?
Necessary but doubtful. Spec really needs a talent rework and a stronger base kit.
1st. Tank, 2nd. Havoc. Kyrian is good if you do very high keys (not 15, but 20+), otherwise irrelevant if you know what you are doing. Venthyr is falling out of favor hard.
Get your hands on the Collective Anguish legendary as a Cloak and play the Talent Build 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 and you are set for any type of PvE content, be it raids or m+, for now.
Night fae has incrwdibly powerful soulbinds. Venthyr gives you uncapped aoe via sinful brand on all targets hit by your meta leap. Venthyr sinful brand is better in st too (raids come to mind). Until 9.1, night fae is better if you wanna dabble in pvp and pve. With 9.1, you have no reason to do pvp for gearing unless you like pvping and want to focus on that due to how pvp gear is being reworked. As venthyr you’ll be useful in the revendreth dungeons, as opposed to competing with a lot of other specs who also go night fae for night fae dungeons.
In theory, yes. In practice, CA is guaranteed dmg while DGM may or may not reset eyebeam which puts you at the mercy of rng. The sensible thing to do is craft CA first, have a solid legendary for general use and after that you can branch out, get DGM or CT or BW
Rng is rng. If ppl would truely care about rng, they would go full crit to minimize it (for ST) but they don’t because its an overall dmg loss, like DGB vs. CA
Anyway, when we can finally equip two legendaries, its a good idea having them both.
I have been playing as DH main since legion (feral previously). Its super duper so much fun for me. Ofc its not complicated class to play but its rly enjoyable. Dashes, backflips, wings all of those make big impact on a playstyle too. You just need to be careful not to pull anything with them and they will make your life just better.
It needs some changes which I hope we will see in 9.1 but its not that bad like many ppl describe. Vengance is amazing in m+ and pvp. When it comes to havoc I havent pvp as one so dunno but he is doing fine in m+ for sure. I got KSM on mine without problem. Your selfhealing is a big differance (hunt makes it even better) and it can help alot by letting your healer focus on others.
Covenants? Kyrian if you want to focus on tanking m+ on high keys but if not Night Fae is the best option overall to pick.
With builds. Eye beam + demonic. CA legendary because you can use it in any situation without falling much behind on dps comparing to others.
Tips? Make use out of your utilities and party will be grateful for that. Interupts, aoe stun, st stun and sometimes when you dont plan on using imprison for the next minute you can use it as interupt too. Darkness is good to be dropped on tanks or melee when you see their hp going lower. Or if you are on voice with party you can tell to call for it if they need it. Haste battery trinket is good to get. You open with hunt + trinket follwoing by eye beam, blade dance, glavies, immolation aura blade dance again to fit into meta time and then if pull os big you can use meta to reset cds and make big aoe burst again. Playstyle is rather simple so you wont have problem with getting use to it hope you will have fun!
I just picked up Nightfae but as soon as I got to Ardenweald I realized that I just want to be a Necrolord, because I just enjoy the fabtasy of it! And I actually kind of enjoy to play around with the Fodder ability, as I realized!
Regarding to the talents I’m playing with 1-1-2-1-1-1-1 at the moment. But the combination of Imolation and Fel Rush feels kind of weird. Is there any other Build that is viable for Solo-Play and Dungeons?
Insteas of immolation in 3rd row you can take glavies talent its good too. Im running with it you can also try to pick felblade/demonsblade in 1st and 2nd row together with first blood talent in a later ones and combine it with demonic or momentum from last one however you like. But for this I would suggest other legendary like Burning Wounds or Chaos Theory. Taking single target stun in I dont remember which row is also pretty nice, but shorter cooldown on aoe is useful too.
If you like necrolords you can try them but summoning a demon at random time can be unpredictable. Some ppl play with it but I wouldnt advise.
Kyrian: only good for vengeance but it really shines there by giving you a lot of extra dps. Although, being a tank said extra dps isn’t as valuable as for a damage dealer so picking Kyrian isn’t really mandatory unless you are tanking high keys.
NF: probably the best all around. It is by far the best in pvp, to the point where if you have any interest in doing pvp as havoc outside of random bgs you kinda need it, no other covenant ability comes even close to it in that type of content. I say kinda because the buff to unbound chaos gives us a little bit of burst potential outside of it so it’s not as vital as it used to be, at least in low ratings, but it’s still bis in pvp by far. It is neck and neck with venthyr in raid and is also pretty solid in m+ but below venthyr.
Venthyr: As I said it is neck and neck with NF in raids, it’s kinda hard to tell which his best between the two in that content. It kinda depends on the boss fight, so the difference really isn’t major. In m+ it is the best for havoc, kinda. See what makes it so good is the uncapped aoe of putting sinful brand on every mobs around you when you meta. This is a really good combo, it does a lot of damage and the 30% reduction to attack speed is actually really useful when spread to all the mobs of a dangerous pack. The issue is that meta being a 4 min cd you really need to know on what packs you are going to use it in advance, and it’s also a problem in tyrannical weeks when you want to use it on bosses. So it is technically the best in m+ it is also harder to use, and it looses out to NF when it’s tyrannical.
Necrolord: basically NF but budget. Best nowhere but terrible nowhere either. The dps is below over options but the recent rework made it high enough so you aren’t basically gimping yourself by choosing it. It is also second best in pvp, although far behind NF and propped up by how terrible venthyr and kyrian are in pvp it still kinda useful there as havoc struggle with survivability in pvp so the self heal is good. And if you get lucky and kill the demon right before a dobble eye beam and unbound chaos fel rush, the empowered demon soul makes that burst actually kinda good.
Reading through your post I would recommend necrolord. First because you said you liked them, and also because since this is an alt I don’t think you plan to push +20 keys or get glad so really the lower dps shouldn’t be that big of an issue. And you would benefit from the all around goodness and ease of use of that covenant.
