Are you sure? Are you absolutely sure your not going just a little hard on some flashy action bar?
I agree we didn’t need an extra casting bar in our action button. When we already have a casting bar. But you make it sound like it breaks wow for you.
Well, it does. WoW mostly has calm clear screen, and there aren’t to much clutter while leveling/etc.
But once you enter dungeons/raid - there a lot of visual information (mechanics, HP bars and focus interupts, party animations, mob frontals, etc., then ofc we have couple addons that gives us flashes on important moments (dbm/wa).
And now on top - my spell bar is flashing (I play elemental shaman, and every time I reach 50 MS - my EQ and Earth shock just flashes. I don’t need it, I have my resourse bar in the middle of the screen, I already know that I can cast EQ/ES). Then ofc when someone goes off CD (lava sirge for ex) - again it flashes. If I get some proc (Lava burst or storm keeper) - all of the sudden several buttobs starts to glow very brightly, and it does disturb my focus from screen and actual combat to look at my spell bar to see what is happening there - and boom I am hit by something.
At least on resto spec it’s much cleaner, nothing flashes (well maybe because I don’t have a single healing spell in my bar, everything is on keybinds in VuhDo).
I feel this flashing spellbar trains people in a very bad way - they are trained to look at the spellbar for the next flash, instead looking at screen to handle mechanics.
Why my interrupt doesn’t flash when there is a dangerous cast??
Why my stun doesn’t flash on Uldaman Snake boss??
My my defensive CDs doesn’t flash when I am receiving huge damage from some unavoidable boss mechanic??
I would rather train people to click their utility buttons, rather than damage ones. We are just increasing gap this way between good and bad players. Now bad players will only look at flashes in spellbar.
I agree 100%. They look awful when you’re looking for M+ groups. Pixilated and undefined. Not really one to complain but I do wonder who thought that this was even an issue to begin with.
These flashes are basically indicators that distract you from the fight and gets your attention focused on the class fighting itself. Like it’s letting you know that instead of having a spell be good, casting it makes another spell good and “can you please click that now because now it’s good thanks ”.
With a few exceptions, for example it makes sure you tweak you to interrupt - even when you shouldn’t.
This whole thing is all sorts of wrong. It’s bad class design and bad UI design coming together to create a noisy and annoying gameplay experience.
Keep in mind that custom action bar addons can’t create their own frames from the ground up and only keep its own elements because the CastSpell and CastSpellByName function is only allowed to be run through Blizzard code.
So what action bar addons do is they modify the appearance around the bar or add graphics on top of the bar.
An addon was able to remove the cooldown ring for being CC’d but it got nerfed so I had to use OmniCC to indicate it with blue text instead to at least have something to indicate it’s not an actual CD so I can better work out when I should commit abilities to break CC.
Whether this can be disabled without tainting the whole button remains to be seen, but if there is anything it’s going to be a hidden cvar I suspect.
This is literally the worst change that happened to the UI, players DEMAND option to turn this CRAP FLUSHY thing off because its EYE GOUGING and make no sense what procs when since everything SHINES for no reason, either remove this crap or make an option to turn it off.
Yes, they look a bit child’s toy like, but I adore them! Now, I can actually see the icons again, and distinguish them by color instead of squinting and hovering over them. They are a blessing for anyone with crappy eyesight! I’m really happy.
