Hi to all. For a long time, I thought about changing my main (my warrior) to another class, to a rogue, for example. However, I was always tormented by the feeling of losing what I had spent so much time on. This is the loremaster of all locations and reputation. And if I was ready to go through the quests again, then there was no desire to farm a reputation again.
And here we were shown a new system of spreading reputation per account. And now I’m wondering if it’s worth waiting the conditional 8-9 months for a new addon to start it from a clean sheet for a new class and transfer the reputation that will be possible, or is it better to do it now and there’s no point in waiting until Blizzard introduces that system and complements it old reputation
People who changed main, how did you deal with the dilemma of time spent on it?
People who plan to change maine, what is your plan of action in this situation?
Firstly, you need to know for sure you want to properly change main if having one with all of this is important to you. It is a lot of work and takes about half a year or more. Imagine doing 3 months of catching up only to realise you don’t like rogue more than warrior.
I have done this several times, hell I just enjoy starting fresh and completing things. Usually get bored a few expansions in or new content is out and I go back to my current main.
From this experience I would suggest making the character for now and doing loremaster of Dragonflight and getting geared so they will be the one you play with new content.
Reputations will take time to all be account bound, the first being the new expansion’s and dragonflight (so no need to farm those again). The rest? Well you don’t -need- them but if you want something to do then the timewalking weeks are excellent for getting them up especially with TBC, WotLK and Cata. The rest seem to take a lot longer to farm.
Loremaster is a big project, best done at max level but you can probably do half an expansion’s worth of content to level to 60, for that I would recommend BfA because the scaling is weird even at max level afaik, so easier to do as levelling.
Exploration is easy if you have the heirloom maps and tbh doesn’t take that long without. The most tedious is EK and Kalimdor.
In the end I have a loremaster hunter that I enjoy playing most but this character has been around since Legion and I am infinitely more attached to her, even though she doesn’t have everything prior to Legion content.
Well, your Loremaster doesn’t even count until you complete it on both sides, Horde and Alliance…
And I’m only half-joking. If you’re a completionist, you should already know that there are unique rewards (mogs, toys, pets) that you can get only by playing second faction. I’ve switched mains back in BFA, from a warrior as well, who had like a hundred exalted reputations and Loremaster of its own. Since then, this character of mine accumulated hundred and a half of exalted as well and finished all of Loremaster but a couple or two of vanilla zones.
I think Blizz said that the Warbands feature will initially only include stuff from the new expansion. Old reputations, achievements, quests, and whatnot will not be included at the start. Maybe they’ll eventually add Warband support for old stuff, but I wouldn’t count on it.
I’m sticking to this character since I’ve literally done everything on it [rep/mogs/questing/Garrisons/etc.etc.etc]. The only time I’d switch mains is if Blizzard ever offers a Class Change service… one of the things I find FF14 superior to in that regard with its job change system on the fly.
I kinda like trying out different races. If Warbands will include everything (rep, achievements, quests, currencies, professions, dungeon portals, …) I’ll be happy. I just hope that Blizz won’t half-heartedly implement this feature by only including rep and currencies but nothing else.
I would rather they not include quests, it is my favourite thing to do in the game. However, I do use the skip option when available… but then I never re-read the quests I just like to turn my brain off and level via questing because I can do it on auto-pilot.
Ok so, the old reputations won’t transferred right away. What Blizzard said is that TWW and DF reputations will become acc-wide but will slowly be adding everything else over time.
Honestly I would say roll your new character, everything will be unlocked in due time.
the expansion is like a year away from now lol you can do %100 ATT in that time . they won’t make every rep account bound and the old reps won’t be available at launch they’re starting with TWW and Dragonflight so don’t make plans around it
I had the same feelings as you at some point, but then I realized how worthless pretty titles and mounts are when the game has so many of them, and that they just show that you were present at X point or that you wasted X hours. Not to mention that since the social aspect has been long gone, you can’t even show off. I wasted quite some time to get Loremaster myself on Classic, and looking back, it was the definition of waste of time.
I took a stepback then realized that WoW has been a seasonal game similar to PoE or Diablo for quite some time, and that your progress will be mostly reset by next season. With that in mind, I started playing the class I wanted to at any moment, it’s much more fun this way. I suggest you do the same.
