New Patch Gearing

Please can rewards from quests and lower level dungeons have their item level increased when new patches come out?

Every time there’s a new patch the gear gaps get bigger, the grind gets longer, the fun becomes lesser.

My girlfriend recently tried to get into WoW, she went through the leveling process and when she got to 60 she hated it. She had a 3rd of everyones health. If she queued random heroics the gear would still leave her at about 2 fifths of every ones health. She cant find groups for Mythic+ because her gears so bad and she has no achievements. She doesnt like PvP, and even if she tries she cant find groups for PvP for the same reasons. She doesnt like the Korthia zone, and she is stuck there if she wants to get gear and upgrade it. As a new player she also found all the systems confusing. So long story short she’s quit.

This game is not new player friendly, even with the easy leveling. But not everyone wants easy leveling. She played classic when it was first released and had to quit because she got too addicted! Retail is dying because new players are none existant, and long term players are fed up with the constant grind and every patch being limited to 1 zone.

Wnet off topic a bit, but basically what I want is leveling gear to increase in item level so that when you hit 60 you can jump into the relevant content without having to earn useless gear. Also Mythic 0 should be added to the group finder. When you complete all mythic 0, mythic 2 gets added to it and so on.

Edit: I think people are missing the point. I dont want ‘free gear’, and its nothing to do with me, I’m fine the way it is. My point is that for new players, people that haven’t played the game for 10+ years (or even just played in a previous expansion), with each patch, new players need to be considered. But from a new player perspective (my girlfriend, I’ve played since since classic) end game needs to be less confusing and more linear. From my point of view, what ever they do makes no difference to me, because I’m probably going to play regardless, and I don’t PvE. 9.1.5 has been great imo, because the catch up for me with alts is decent. But if you have no main, end game seems painful. Random Dungeons you get carried through, which she said is boring because she doesn’t get chance to do anything. Korthia it takes her ages to kill anything because her gears crappy from questing. World quests are boring because it’s the same quests she did whilst leveling. She was doing the campaign and getting the campaign gear, which tbh is probably the best way to go to get gear as a new player wanting to PvE. She could make her own Mythic groups, but shes not comfortable doing it, because shes new and so far the majority of players in PvE groups have been toxic to her for ‘being a noob’. Anyway, shes moved on to New World which she seems to be enjoying. I just thought it would be nice if questing item level went up in new patches along side dungeon gear etc, to make item level more linear. Instead of big jump after big jump. It would also be nice to if the campaign set had new upgrade item levels, instead of the Korthia set taking over with new currencies to grind. No doubt in 9.2 there will another currency and a new set to upgrade, even a new system of borrowed power. It all just gets a bit messy the longer an expansion goes on. Which leads back to my main point about it being confusing for new players. Anyways, happy gaming.

Thats how they milk you, Cow!

Longer grind - more sub time - more milked money from the cows.

I don’t understand why they don’t change these korthia boa gear from stygia to soul ash
Soul ash is easier to farm Make it easier to gear alts But it’s like Kaløyan says They want you to play longer They want you to buy a sub once your is almost over They milking you like a :cow:
In ptr you could skip a covenant story if you done it already on 1 character But they removed it to make people play longer

This is the biggest load of crap I have ever read. You are basically a white knight, asking for free gear for your girlfriend? And please enlighten me, how exactly is it different in the first patch vs. the last patch?

I agree there are issues regarding renown, conduits etc etc. but gear is exceptionally easy to obtain. The whole set of 200 ilvl gear + 1x 230 ilvl item is accessible to you for what, 15k gold? Which you get how? With 5 emissaries. This will put you to around 197 ilvl, even more if you buy the Korthia trinkets and the weapon with Stygia.

From then on, you progress. M0, m+5, m+10 and so on. Normal raids, heroic raids etc. Exactly the same as it was in the first patch. In 9.2., the purchasable gear will be scaled to 230 ilvl, and you will get 1 item for 270 iirc. All the WQ gear will be scaled up aswell.

Did you and your girlfriend think that you dinged, and now you are ready for M+20?

Cmon, give me a break. You people don’t even know what you want, and you just whine.

What is this post ?
Dont think that MMO’s are fun for your girlfriend. Try other games.

Honestly I’ve just got 2 alts to 60 and it’s easier to gear than you think. Don’t grind dungeons etc.

Easiest is that crafted 200 gear sells for most slots between 2k and 8k gold a piece. Buy one 230 crafted for a bit more. Trinkets and weapons are harder to get.

Korthia /maw for Stygia which now you can target korthia armaments starting 750 a piece.

Keep an eye on world quests for 180+ weapons.

Torgast to get that first legandary

This will get you close to 195 where LFR Sanctum opens for 233 gear.

210 ilvl is really possible and that gets you entry into any end game content outside RBG and heroic raiding

Then you’re doing it wrong.

Everytime the ilvl increase so does the ilvl of the catchup, you shouldn’t focus on below 60 dungeons or quests to earn end game ilvl. The gear you get is relevant to the content you obtained it from, if you somehow earned a 200ilvl items from a lvl 53 quest then you’d breeze through the leveling zone.

Forget about 9.0 content when 9.2 launch, just get there and benefit from other people helping you killing mobs to breeze through the open world content & get the catchup gear.

I don’t usually spend much longer gearing fresh alts than catching up on previous ones, it’s just more of the same open world grind. They are weaker and can’t be nearly as efficient but I don’t usually rely on previous patches to catchup.

In all fairness tho, what is ? Could you give me one example of a “player friendly” mmorpg and how it’s any different than WoW ?

Because from my pov you can go really far in WoW doing whatever you like without even remotely understanding what you’re doing or what you should do. The barrier of entry in this regard is pretty low.

It’s already the case if the relevant content is the newest open world content. Otherwise nope, it’s honestly not that hard to reach LFR ilvl.

So up to m+15 on the group finder ? Yeah terrible idea.

M0 could make sense in the group finder, but anything beyond that is a recipe for disaster.

Cuz they decided from the very beginning that Torghast wouldn’t reward any gear. Make of that what you will, opinions on this topic vary widely.

Still I’m fairly happy that Torghast didn’t go from “Ash grind chore” to “Alt gear chore”.

Yet they gave you the rewards from said skip anyway, it’s not as if you really had to go through that questline once again.

I mean come on, there are plenty of grinds and wastes of time you could have used, why pick such a bad example ?

Yes, make it even more easier. We wouldn’t want that your girlfriend actually does something for her progression.
Time? Effort? No, she must have it all. And she must have it yesterday. And you have to make a post about it, because doing that herself takes too much time too most likely.

Your Gf recently tried to get into WoW and maybe she should take her time instead of rushing forward.

People that played the patch has more HP/Power than her, what a mind blowing surprise, does she even know what games is this?

Also, she can open her own group, no one is gonna question her gear in a M0, get a key, and slowly play her own keys with ups and downs.

Whats unfriendly about it lol. You can literally do everything at your own term once you get a key.

mmm. i levelled 4 alts and lately the last one reached 220ilvl in 1 month playin twice a week.

There are skips, the earlier ways of gearing are bypassed. For example we now go straight to Korthia gear for alts. I expect there will be some new catch up gear when the patch comes out in Zereth Mortis.

This is the thing, it’s great for alts. But for new players it’s a confusing mess. I’ve never viewed it like that because I’ve played 16-17 years. It was only since she had told me her experience that I thought, yeah that kinda sucks actually. And if Blizz want to get player numbers up, they need to consider new players at end game and in new patches, and not just about the leveling process. I have no issues with how it is, I’m enjoying 9.1.5, but from a new players perspective, it’s not been fun for her. That’s all I’m saying, and just feedback basically her thoughts.

I think catching up has always been confusing for new or returning players. They have tried to help by making the newcomer channel for those who lack friends and guildies to talk to.

Blizz don’t really have a good system in place to explain this to players in the game itself.
