So, I bought a new computer a week ago ish.
But… I’m kinda confused how I’m still getting low fps time to time. With these PC specs I was 100% certain that I would be able to play wow at high/ultra settings with no problem at all.
(I play wotlk)
When I’m doing 25m raids the fps drops down to 50-70 fps(at high/good settings).
When in Dalaran my fps drops down to 70-90 fps(at high/good settings).
The FPS in general seems to be kinda ‘‘unstable’’. It can go up to 400 fps and sometimes down to 60 fps.
Is this really normal? Isn’t my computer with my specs supposed to be able to handle wow wotlk at highest settings without any problems?

Currently running the game at good and few high settings, shadows off, but I still get the fps issues.
I thought I would be able to run easily at high/ultra…
Retail also got problems, they’re “working on it”. So can hope it gets fixed this month.

Also worth to mention…
I’m currently using the 200% render scale. Should I, or should I not be sitting at 200%? I feel like the game looks so blurry if I go down to 100%… What’s the best render scale option for my PC?
That alone, will be punching your performance in the face. Turn it down to 100%, and you will probably see some immediate performance improvement.
Keep in mind though that the specs you listed are only in keeping with a mid-range rig, not high-end. Plus that CPU is a bit old now. So don’t expect to be running with ALL THE FPS!!! at ultra settings.
Pretty sure my PC is supposed to be able to handle wow at high & good settings and be stable at 140-160 fps?

Well, that’s a bit dissapointing. I thought these PC specs were pretty good, like way above average.
Well, you seem to know your stuff. Maybe you could recommend me what graphic settings to use? =D
Hey there. Some people have mentioned that there are some performance issues, but let’s see if we can fix this! What resolution are you running at?
For questing and stuff yes, no problem, even on retail.
For raiding, there is no 140+ FPS in a raid fight, especially not stable 
I can’t speak for classic, but in retail mythic 20man with addons (weakauras, nameplates, details, etc), i’m dropping below 60 FPS on some fights now and then on my newly upgraded 5800X3D (which is about 20-30% faster than the non 3D in WoW).
You have to understand that WoW is extremely CPU limited in raids and when lots of players and enemies are closeby.
WoW’s old engine cannot propely multithread all our CPU cores, so high IPC and clockspeed (+ fast RAM) is the main driver of high FPS in this game.
While questing in current content zones you can be GPU limited on settings above 7 easily if you are aiming for 120+ FPS.

There are the problems currently as above, 3070 is one of the cards having a issue in blizz post and their trying to fix it as we speak.
However also:
They are very good.
A large issue in mmorpgs is simply the fact your pc is not only processing your character and enviroment at the settings u set, its also processing every character around you every animation they do + eviroment + shadows + water effects + idle animations and any pet animations.
Why mmorpgs generally do not release on graphics near single player games do, and mmorpgs that have rly high graphics never get popular.
Mmorpgs tend to be heavier on the machine aswell as the GPU also because of this.
It kinda comes with the terrority of the genre.
Also, i could be outdated in information, i didnt think WoW could display over 60 fps? Even if it says ur above 60 i dont think it actually displays more then 60?
Going for 120+ fps is generally for shooter games, also ur monitor has to be able to run 120 also

You can get a high framerate in WoW, way above 60. It varies between players but some can notice the difference and it can affect their reaction time or just immersion in a dynamic scene/combat.

oh i only bothered caring about being over 60 in First person shooters… didnt think it was extended to WoWxD
Anything under 80 fps feels unsmooth to me.
Well i now run at 130fps just didnt really notice any difference in WoW was more obvious in overwatch
But i also havent had under 120 in a loooong time now so maybe i just dont remember at this point
Good comment! MMOs are heavily CPU dependent, with a lot of data being processed. The 5800X3D shows how cache limitations are yet another challenge, and how it can affect the CPU time for each frame.
There’s also the aforementioned performance issues currently being run into, but hopefully those will get ironed out soon. That GPU should be able to perform decently in open zones so long as there aren’t too many people running around near him.
I didn’t notice resolution answered.
Rendering scale is supersampling, except it’s meant to be more flexible. For a typical person, 2x1,1x2 or 2x2 ratios make sense, they reduce various jagged edges (also, detailed objects like fences have a tendency to look ultra weird otherwise).
It means that you’re actually rendering 4 times the screen size, and then also resizing.
I’d also agree that V-Sync 60fps is nice. There are some edge cases, such as racing or (train) simming where roadside objects feel smoother, but what actually matters is smoothness. One sim I play tends to burst frames, so anything below 300 (!) is actually worse than V-Sync 60. Even 20fps (!) feels smoother than unsynced 80.
Of course it all depends on what your monitor supports.
On a side note, more fps = more power, electricity, bills. And you may end up cooking your card sooner. Don’t want to jinx it, but I’m sensible with my current PC, it’s almost 8 years old, and it’s stable, doing well.

Yeah gettin mega super lags during certain things since prepatch that i never did before one such event is sins spawning on sire fight another is aoe stuff that affect load of targets at once or affix stuffs spawnin at once.
what resolution you use?
200% render scale and antialiasing together can make particles very heavy to render on a multiplayer game even worse.

Sorry for the late response!
I used to run with 200% scale at 5120x2880, which obviously was the wrong setting to go for. I am now running at 100% scale at 2560x1440(which my monitor actually supports). And it’s increased my fps by A LOT.
Currently my game is running at 600+ fps, sometimes it goes down to 300ish, which is still good obviously. However, whenever in Dalaran… The fps just won’t get better. Jumps between 60 - 120 fps in Dalaran… Even when I’m in Crystalsong questing under Dalaran.
My guess would be that Dalaran is just a messed up place atm?
I haven’t tried raiding 25m yet with my new settings, so I will have to update you guys tomorrow after my raid. 
EDIT: I’m sitting on a 27’’ ASUS monitor, so I guess the 2560x1440 is the right resolution to go for, right?(100% scale). I tried 1920x1080 but that’s just really blurry. Increased the FPS thou.

Keep your native resolution allways,yes in your case 100% for 1440p.
Check if you have your mouse in raw input,makes mouse movent more smooth,also decrease antialiasing to 4 x ( in case you using 8x ) and particle effect from ultra to hight might help too in fights with a lot of particles.
Dont run the game in 600 fps,youll fry your card in 5 years instead 20.
Run the game with vsync or lock your fps to the same refresh rate of monitor.
No point in having 600 fps if your monitor only shows 60 or 144 or 280 depending on your monitor hertz.
A 3070 should run all ultra @ 100% scale easy and headroom for more at 60+ fps at any time.
You neef to check google for raw mouse input command coz i dont remember 
Also the game right now is stuttering for a lot of people ( me included on a beast high end pc ) so theres that too,untill blizzard do something.
