A few information before I start: I’m a total new player to the game. Started my experience 13 days ago with the goal to unlock the Vulpera race as soon as possible. So, I created a Monk Pandaran, played through the Battle for Azeroth campaign (Zulduzar and Vol’dun), reached level 50 and unlocked the Vulpera race after 31 hours of total playtime.
After that I created my Rogue. The goal: Reach level 50 to unlock the Heritage armor, which I did after another 37 hours.
Now, swapping between Monk (Windwalker) and Rogue (Subtlety) and comparing these two classes (or at least my way of playing both), the Monk feels far more superior in every way: deals more damage, more survivability and better AoE damage. It is that significant, which worries me. Suffice to say I’m still in the learning phase (for both classes). But so far it feels plain wrong. Of course: There’s an equipment issue (item level currently at 110 at my level 50 Rogue) AND a skill issue. But I understand the basics of the Subtlety Rogue: Have your poisons up, have Slice and Dice up, go stealth for burst damage with Shadow Strike. Shadow Dance gives another go for spamming Shadow Strike while Shadow Blades and Symbols of Death increases the damage, also Bleeding is a thing. Best combo finishers are (probably) Eviscerate and Secret Technique with full combo points.
So much for the Rogue. But when I compare the Rogue to the Monk, things turn out this way: Rising Sun Kick → 4,000 damage. Strike of the Windlord ->5,000 damage, which I can basically spam both and have the echo effect from time to time. While my Rogue barely touches the numbers over 1,000 damage. As can tell, the difference is huge. And concerning. I mean: I would understand, if the difference is slightly below. But this feels just wrong.
I mean, sure: My Monk has six more levels. But this can’t make this much of a difference, right? And it really bugs me. Because as a Monk I can run in basically every mob/boss and make it the most time. But as a Rogue I have to think twice to even go after 2 normal enemies at the same time, not to mention a boss-like creature.
Rogue is a pretty broken class for a very long time. You better park that char and come back to it once Blizz will do a big revamp. Any balancing on dmg or survivability is not enough (and seems like not even planned lol). The in-game content shifted alongside the playstyle/system and Rogue needs to find a “new fit” into the game.
Yeah, you can’t judge a spec by how it performs in levelling. There’s no balance until max level, and even then content difficulty affects relative performance. A spec that does instant burst damage will always perform better in content where mobs die very quickly. It’s once stuff takes longer to die that you get a better idea of how dps specs compare.
If you’re at least interested in war mode while doing open world activities I’d say stay rogue. Honestly, rogues gameplay is nothing special in raids and dungeons, but they do shine in wpvp. That’s the reason I can’t really stick with alts - rare farming/questing is either just a chore with war mode turned off or a group gank fest you can do nothing about. With rogue you can choose your battles and I personally love it.
I have a uotlaw rogue better geared and WW monk less geared less good stats.
And i say Stay WW monk easy to play and uotput vs effort is better.
If u wanna dps on uotlaw atm Its alot of work for so little u reap.
Keep Slice and dice up watch ur roll the bones than u have to do the pistol debuff aswel and than depends if got cursed blade and more to many Cds to low Dmg reward for work.
Stick to WW monk
I guess the Rogue is in general a solid class for PvP with the rupts, damage spikes and nasty conditions. I’m not interested in PvP though. Fighting my way through Shadowlands at the moment to find better gear.
I have reached level 60 with my Rogue too. And still: Damage and survive ability of the Monk seems much more superior, especially when fighting multiple enemies at once. Monk currently has equipment level of 169 and my Rogue 160. So they aren’t that much separated.
Sub rogue does way more damage than WW monk on max level and proper gear(PvE) but play what you like, at the end of the day the game is about having fun, or so I’m told.
You only have to look at any pve logs in any pve content to reliese ur very wrong im afraid.
Your comparing a monk. Which in raids snd m+ is a mid pack dps, to the powerhouse leading specc sub.
Its number 1 for a reason im afraid, monks just easier to play to be blunt here.
Rogues are built around pooling snd bursting, which is something you need to learn im afraid, however because of this. Below 70 rogues gonna be horrific to level.
Same with any DoT based specc, they dont feel amazing to level, they tend to feel slow. But yeah, if ur sole reason to play WW is u think ur gonna see better results at end game. Im afraid ur wrong.
