I’m a new player on WoW AD, I played years ago for a little while but never got into it. I’m coming into WoW from GW2 and I’m surprised to see how many RP forum threads etc. there are already.
My plan is to spend some time levelling up and learning lore but since WoW has been around since my literal infancy I doubt I’ll wrap my head around it any time soon and hope that people will be forgiving. I take a lot of inspiration for my OCs from ancient mesopotamia, egyptian mythology & the Conan universe, and have already decided my first zones to fully clear will be on Kalimdor. I’m so excited!
If anyone has any suggestions on discords, or places I should visit on my OC once I get started properly I’d be very thankful. I hope to see you all in Azeroth!

Edit: I know Argent Dawn EU Roleplay discord has recently also created a ‘Getting started’ section, where you might find some useful information related to both roleplay and general gameplay.
In the above thread, there’s now some lore videos linked under Tips too, to help people new to the setting catch up on it.
If you’re looking for more particular roleplay avenues, or ideas on where your character concept might best fit in, don’t hesitate adding more information about your OC when you feel ready, so that people can give you more specific advice!
As stated above, Acrona has made a lovely introduction into RP which I too recommend highly.
Regarding trying your hand at RP, please know that you don’t need to have a vast knowledge of the lore to RP with your fellow players! In fact, I’d recommend to come up with a character concept that isn’t well-versed or all-knowing and use them to get a feel of how RP works and what kind of character/setting you’d like to explore as you get more accustomed to the world. There’s no need to rush into anything!
Another tip I would give is to not let a single bad experience spoil the fun for you. I’m not saying that it’s to be expected, but there’s a great variety of roleplayers on the server and in your search to find what you enjoy best you might come to encounter scenarios that could be demotivating. Fret not, pretty much all RPers been there once. There’s a place and people just right for you around the bend! It might just take a bit of searching.

If there is anything, as you may already have discovered, there is many in the community happy to help, don’t be shy about asking
Whatever you do, don’t go to Goldshire. 1st because for obvious reasons but also 2nd because I recently was approached by a Goldshire RPer who asked me to teach them actual normal Roleplay (no inappropriate intentions from that players side). And when we tried to get regular RP going in Lakeshire among other people that Individual was publically harassed on that character by stalkers on Trial accounts. When I asked them to stop they literally started to throw insults around.
What you should keep in the back of your head that some people are incredibly petty in this game. So avoid exposing yourself with questionable actions to those people. They might haunt you for years.
One of my former guild masters was stalked for years as well, without even any inappropriate background.
Stay safe and out of trouble. If you have questions, ask multiple people or a trusted source first.
