New player question: Exile Reach or Racial Starter Zone?

Hi there, I’m a new player. I started playing and did Exile Reach on my first character, and then went onto the Battle for Azeroth storyline. However, I quickly realized the game by default dumped me into a dead server, so I rerolled on a full server.

After doing a couple more characters, including a Worgen Warrior and a Night Elf Demon Hunter, I realized that all their beginning areas are different, and that completing them did not put me in the BfA storyline like doing Exile’s Reach did, so it felt pretty confusing. What starter would you suggest if I want to keep progression and levelling nice and linear for my ‘main’ character?

Hey there Catohs!

I don’t have huge experience on alts, but think that once you’ve reach a certain level on your first character, you don’t have to pick BfA, for whatever starting zone you choose (would be nice if someone confirms this).

BfA path is really good though, but you might be tired of it. Any expansion path you choose should be linear, some are faster than others, but not worth the fuss of going on a way you don’t want. It comes down to what storyline you want to follow.

Regarding what starting path to choose, think it’s up to you. If you want to go fast, exile’s reach is the best. If you wanna start with your own “kind”, to have a more immerse feeling, take the long way (although it’s not that longer) and go with your race.

Hello Catohs! Welcome to World of Warcraft! :raised_hand:

I’m Niato from Silvermoon and been working as volunteer WoW Guide on Newcomer chat for 1,5-year.

In order to open up NPC Chromie Time which lets you to choose any expansion all the since The Burning Crusade, you need to reach level 50 in Battle for Azeroth expansion with your first character. Chromie Time can be found near of Embassy in both Stormwind and Orgrimmar. It’s account-wide, so once you reach level 50 once, you are not being pushed to BFA if you don’t feel like it’s your expansion to level in. When you use Chromie Time, it will take you back in time and scales that expansion mobs level with your character level. It will also open up LFG for that specific expansion dungeons.

About Exile’s Reach. Exile’s Reach is a starter zone for new players which you must complete only once. After you have completed it with your very first character, you will receive an achievement and open up a possibility to use Racial Starter Zones account-wide. So, when you do create a new character, it lets you choose between Exile’s Reach or Racial Starter Zone.

So, level up one character in Battle for Azeroth (and to be honest, I really suggest playing BFA storyline on both Alliance and Horde. Story is completely different). By the way, Mists of Pandaria is absolutely beautiful - try it out when you have a chance to choose your expansion! Stunning zones and music. I really do like it.
