New Player Questions

Hello everyone!

I have posted here before with some questions regarding AD but ended up never coming to the server and stopped playing for a while.

Now I’m back for the new expansion and my interest in the server has kept on growing! I am not sure how much I will actually actively role-play but I nonetheless would not want to break other people’s immersion, so I have a few questions regarding gear and mounts.

How does transmog work in Argent Dawn? Are there any “rules”? Should I avoid anything too flashy ? (I’m going to roll a Paladin)

What about mounts? How are flying mounts seen on the server?

I apologise if these questions are stupid, but even though I am mostly a pve player I would still like to respect everyone here and, who knows, perhaps even dabble into some rp!

Heya. I think you’ve already answered your own questions a bit.

Transmogging, do what you like, but most RPers enjoy if you wear something grounded.
Meaning that the style of gear fits your characters concept, profession, and culture.

Flying mounts is an ehh… A lot of people actually “mount” their mount. Meaning that if they want to go somewhere by Griffon, they actually go to the stables for one. A lot of mounts are a bit too strange for the setting you might want to roleplay in, so just watch what other people do.

I just say go roleplay and keep an eye what other RPers are doing, and follow some advice of others.

General Tmog is fine so long as it may not be too immersive-breaking. A lot of the AD populace in RP have a rather low / medium fantasy setting so it’s a lot more realistic looking gear. Bit more grim - You can certainly use your average Judgement set or something similar but, some may be wary if you’re using large oversized shoulders that beam out with holy light (Like ToS myth+ set or along them lines).

Generally seen as okay so long as you give a good story as to how your mount was obtained or something similar. Ofcourse not many will be riding a huge molten core hound but, think more like your horses, gryphons and similar things. Though it’s entirely up to you.

Most people will generally accept you as you come and if they know you’re new they’re more happy to get involved with you and help teach you alongside the server. Once you observe enough it’s pretty easy to click and see how the server runs in general.

Sit about for a bit and have a look and make up a decision from there! Hope this helps!

Thank you for the response!

Do these apply to the entire world or is it mostly in the major cities? Like for example let’s say I’m just trying to get from point A to point B out in the world, would summoning a more flashy mount for traversal be a problem?

In terms of the type of fantasy, I too prefer those more grounded sets and mounts, but blizzard seems to focus more on the flashy stuff, so I don’t know how big the choices are in terms of transmogs and such that look more realistic

Mostly major cities as that is where most people will Roleplay in general anyway.

Outside of that, you’re free to mount whatever you want I’d suppose.

Sounds like your choices would fit right in then and I have no worries that you will be able to carve your path out. If you prefer a more gritty grounded side of things you’ll be able to pick that out for yourself and most people will probably say it looks great.

Maybe another advice; download the addon TRP3.

It’s a must for RP. You can write a lot of details and stuff in about your characters, which other people are able to see and interact with.

Including that, you can also note wether your character is IC (in character) or OOC (out of character). So if you feel like flying around on some flashy mount you won’t break any character.

Thank you for the advice!

I have been told about that addon before and it seems like it would be quite useful for sure! :slightly_smiling_face:

Nobody mentions it so I’ll. Flashy mounts and tmogs are not much loved if you are IN CHARACTER.

If you just go to SW with your flying golden dragon and your shiny tier set 23 for your trade and PvE needs no one will care. You will be minding your busines going to the AH and bank and flying back to the portal.

If you want to engage in RP then yeah, random RP tends to be low fantasy and grounded, you are just another citizen or adventurer, and not the killer of Sargeras who looted his sword and fiery horse.

I’m sure there are guilds with high fantasy setings that will use whatever shines more, but this will be for their in guild RP events.

You should pick your transmogs on the basis that fits your character. Keeping that in mind imo it is fine to wear even a bit more flashier gear. WoW is high fantasy setting after all and it is fine to be a “hero level” character who for example aids the dragons to fight the primalists, altough it is very suitable to keep your toon “in the background” when that happens.

As it has been mentioned flying mounts are fine. Just have a story for it if someone happens to ask (they have never asked me). If you are wondering what is suitable for a mount then wowpedia.fandom.com is your friend when looking for lore answers.

TotalRP 3 might be “mandatory” for rp, but you should get it solely because it is great fun to read what other players have written about their characters.

Also having some common sense and good attitude works well in this server. Even when encountering those players who are quite a characters behind the screen aswell
