"New players" servers

Im looking for server to transfer to and on server list I found Doomhammer/Turalyon to be “new players” servers.
In the past, it usually meant low pop servers, but on wowpop websites it looks like servers are among top 10 populated servers for Alliance.
So, what is the deal with it now? Are those servers low or high populated?

They are usually the realms with lots of capacity for new players. I tend to go for the busiest realms for my characters.

You can get an idea of realm populations on sites like:-

DPS que time for LFR is about 30~45 mins (sometimes around 15 or 20 though rarely), and heroic dungeons usually about 15 mins, sometimes more than 30 mins, sometimes less than 5 mins (though rarely) …

So I guess it’s a low population server.:person_shrugging: Que times are the same for both Alliance and Horde though.

So new players server dont mean low population anymore since Doomhammer is among 10 top servers for Alliance.
I tend to avoid full servers.

Arent queue times the same for all servers since those are all cross-realm queues?

As a side note, it is almost comical what a clichée Silvermoon is. It is apparently THE realm for people who play lewd female blood elves.
And even beyond that, the air there seems rich in magical fairy dust.
I have come to regard other realms as much more interesting in regards to transmog creativity, even if we exclude RP realms.

If you feel it’s high enough population for you then go for it. But they are low pop realms. Some people prefer to be on less busy realms.

Is it still worth checking what the ratio of horde and alliance players are on a server? Because some servers are so skewed one way.

As Khanu said, queue times are across all servers, so not an indication of the population of any one server.

Punyelf gave the two best sources of information we have to judge the population of a server.

Technically the ‘new players’-status is just an indication Blizzard gives to realms with capacity they want to funnel new players into, and is not a direct indicator of realm population.

Among top 10 for what, exactly?

Here’s a quote from the Doomhammer/Turalyon Discord from someone who tried to establish themselves on the realm:

What is the point of this server? Nobody accepts guild applications. Applied to half a dozen over the course of a week and no replies. Is this server dead??? By “this server” i mean doomhammer

Doomhammer/Turalyon is still too low populated for many players, so it is up to you whether or not this is your cup of tea.

The next patch is bringing in cross faction guilds, which will mean there is less of an impact on realm balance. I have always chosen the busy Horde and busy Alliance realm in the past but now I’d like to have all my characters on my Horde realm and put them in one guild. We’ve already seen people reroll/faction change their characters but continue to play/raid with their guilds.

We don’t know if they are going to address LFD group content, at present things like LFR, levelling dungeons/end game dungeons (outside of Mythic), random battlegrounds etc are all faction specific. However all this content is cross realm so it is pooling you with other players from any realm.

A busy realm will have a better economy with plentiful supply, and lots of crafters to make use of.

Well, historically, it was always low pop servers being picked up to be called “new players” servers. This is why I made this thread since this site says it is 10th server for Alliance by number of Alliance players, but Blizzard tagged it as “new players”.
It is just not tagged as usual “high” popluation.

Yes, “full” servers have advantages, but I still like lower populated ones since full servers attract crowd I dont want to be with.
Yes, this might be generalization, but we all do it. Impression is powerful thing.

I have friends who prefer to be somewhere quieter. It’s a personal preference.

As long as you enjoy the game it’s all good!

Sure, but that does not means it will always be the case.

Shows the connected realms Doomhammer/Turalyon at rank 14, below big realms and other clusters of connected realms. How they do the ranking and count “active” characters can absolutely be up for debate.

Do not let the rank fool you, Doomhammer/Turalyon are low pop realms. You get all the cons and perks of a low pop realm, but you still get punished by cross-realm sharding so no open world farming benefits.
