New profession ideas inc new mounts

The carpentry idea has been on other threads, but as they are locked I am not able to add to them. (A lot of it was linked to housing - which might be too big a step atm). So my ideas were based around getting ppl moving outside of Oribos occasionally  and potential new mounts (to work gradually towards over time - not time limited, dungeon only or hardcore only pretty pls)

(New to posting on forums so pls bear with me, sorry it is a bit big - lot of ideas to get out of my system)

What could players make : Mounts -
Simple wagon (carries 2 ppl max without needing to dismount npc)
Deluxe wagon (carries 5 ppl max - owner = driver)
all with repair function and maybe other enhancements/customisations which could be worked on.

Trojan horse type mount - with flying 1-2 ppl (various wood colours)
Bigger upgraded one perhaps for a group maybe.

Toy box toys: Mini game board + pieces (checkers/chess/solitaire?) = title and achieve.

Make various size chests (storage boxes/bags) and maybe reuse the old locksmith npcs to put a lock on them so they can be sold to other players.

Event links: Make things for events (quest) eg. Brewfest = barrels for the apples, sled for the winter one etc you get the idea
rewards xp and levels the profession, maybe a toy ? Achieves ?

Transmog - Wooden Shields/Maces - Cosmetic only.
Make basic bead blocks for jewellers to refine and create additional transmog options for neck /earrings/bangles ? eg. Tribal neck pieces ?
Clogs - footwear Offhands ?

Moving around the world - Resources for the profession could be in various locations.

New quests in old places: - for xp/upgrading
Make your own folding workbench to start with.
Buy old cheap/rusty tools and upgrade them as you go.
Repair broken items - such as broken/signs, wardrobes, beds, chairs, picture frames (could be made available more than once to do)
Make new items (as above) in any town/settlement. (Maybe after u fixed them the changes could be permanently visible to the carpenter).

Resources:
Wood - Obtainable from vendors at various logging camp areas

Items that might link with other professions to support them ?
Wood dyes (inscription?) - Extra tints/colours
Bolts (engineering?)
Varnish (alchemy) maybe this could reduce repair costs ?
Carpentry could also create supplies for other professions in return.

I think that is it for now

I love this idea so much. I would pick up this profession in a heartbeat!

Cool thanks

I don’t hate it, but I feel like the primary description of this profession is aimed at RPers, or is expecting player housing to be in the game - which it isn’t.

  • Dyes would be cool; but I don’t think the game will ever implement them. I feel like they would end up under Inscription (inks) anyway, and the carpenter seems irrelevant to this process.
  • Wagon will have a very limited use; I just don’t have any situations where a multi-seat mount is useful.
  • Toy boxes will be one and done, no repeat customers. They could be consumable deployables, but they don’t have a practical purpose so many players will ignore them.
  • Transmog is fine, but after a point everyone has bought it and the market ends.
  • Obtaining materials from logging camps will force players to compete over few resources. In warmode this will be a nightmare, in PvE mode it’ll be sitting and waiting for respawns.

Big question
What does it supply to level 60 players that is relevant all the way to 10.0? Because there’s a reason Alchemy (flasks), Leatherworking (drums) and Engineering (combat res) are the biggest favourites. If you don’t produce vital consumables or have high utility, the profession will join Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing on the heap of “never doing that again”.

You make a fair point about longevity and what the profession offers to max level characters. Unfortunately, consumables/items which offer anything of importance to say raiders for example may cause issues with balance or players resenting being ‘forced’ to do content they don’t like as it has become mandatory.

I personally think that extra (optional) content is always nice to have and can add a little flavour of the game. Probably why mount collecting and transmog are so popular.

Re: the wagon mount- here are a few suggestions/possibilities to increase its function:

  1. it could be used as an alternative to the chauffeur mount and possibly also the repair/transmog mammoth (slightly more immersive to look at and a quieter alternative without the luckydoos).

With no need for npc vendors the services could be free of charge. Useful for levelling alts and save money.

The wagon could carry:
a ‘change of clothes’ - hence free transmog
tools - free repairs
rested xp gain while using it
‘Sell from the wagon’ market stall type thing - vendor items.

Re: Carpentry profession work:
An extra daily optional quest tagged onto some events wouldn’t hurt for additional tokens/xp.

Some nice profession related quests to level it and unlock the additional transmog items.

Heck, (throwing a wildcard in here) Blizzard could even decide to use this and other professions in a WOW community effort to ‘build’ a new city or repair Gilneas / Undercity / Lordaeron etc (after the destruction the world needs a bit of TLC )
