A line of thought that’s missing about this is that while warlocks and religious people might think one thing or another about something, the general vibe that warlocks who are open about being warlocks is that they will do their best to remain useful while upsetting the least.
The few warlocks that are open about it accept being feared, near-exiled, and living as outcasts, or as part of military (and adjacent) groups that fight against larger threats. No society on Azeroth has outright banned warlocks except the Kirin Tor in Dalaran (something which is debatable since Legion), but rather, some things a warlock could do are.
Is being a warlock outlawed in Stormwind? No. Is summoning a demon in public for no reason in the middle of a city outlawed? Yes. Do they get up to some shady dealings that if revealed to the public could get those involved in a lot of trouble? Also yes.
Warlocks as a whole can exist in public, but you have to accept that, IC speaking, your character’s on thin ice and should tread very carefully, as their life is as unstable and chaotic as the magic they deal with. That doesn’t mean that they can’t tread at all, though.
Then there’s Chaos Bolt, which is putting several schools of magic together with duct tape and throwing it at someone before it blows up on your face.
Umm, well, I kinda tought that since they are the ones who kinda started it, thanks for the correction.
thanks about the link
I would say they can return but it’s true in BFA the blow seems to be said to be done the Old Gods and their forces in general, not just N’Zoth.
Well, you aren’t really Mag’har since Fel does corrupt you in time and they are against it.
Ye I tought they didn’t.
It isn’t in Stormwind, in Exodar however? Draenei are deeply religious and Draenei warlock in exodar geting exposed even by one individual? That person basically does, what the Man’ari has done. I know it isn’t the same, but IC tell it to some average Joe. The warlock is simply enemy of Draenei. Otherwise the race is basically ruined lorewise and their story and culture doesn’t matter anymore.
In Exodar, they consider shamans to have rejected the Light and strayed away from it, perhaps even having betrayed it, and they still let the shaman trainer be there even though they treat him like nothing better than dirt in the flavor text when you ask a guard for his location. This is a thing since 2007. The same thing goes for the Warlock trainer there, who is a Broken they’ve shoved into a mine shaft.
Being treated like dirt and pushed around doesn’t mean they are outlawed.
They had problem with Broken being cut from the Light and shamanism being practice of the orks. I get that, and Velen intervened, but you can’t compare shamanism and warlockism. Of all races, Draenei have the worst expierence with Fel. They lost they world and majority of population to it. You can’t compare that.
You mean like when a race that still predominantly followed shamanism wiped them out so hard the remaining survivors of their race could fit inside one ship and the rest became a landmark and portal fuel?
Besides, going against the current doesn’t mean that it’s something that’s widespread at all. Hell, your character doesn’t need to be accepted by their own faction. Most death knights never get fully accepted by their home faction other than ‘you’re useful and Tirion said you’re okay’, and they’re still playable since 2008.
They clearly got rid of that from that bias when they started working alongside warlocks roughly since they crashlanded on Azeroth. Oh and this is just going to be even less of an issue after 10.1.7 hits.
Thos warlocks weren’t they own, also as as the consensus is, average joe gets spooked by fel regardless who does that. Also Draenei are long living that some still remember Argus. My own character cannot just imagine meeting Draenei warlock, she would consider the one as Man’ari and treated them as such. You know what that means.
I have seen the customisations, they do not have green fire on it, it strongly implies they are cleansed, not demons. Some mutations can remain - customisations. Velen is forgiving and offers 2nd chances. That doesn’t mean average Joe will not treat them as trash.
I do RP DK too, yes, I’m not entering Exodar IC on that toon becouse it could become… dramatic. My paladin and DK are sisters. The paladin considers the DK as abomination who stole her sister’s name and body. Warlock is even worse as they choose it willingly.
See what The High Priestess and her Druid have done. They’ve sacrificed the honor and dignity of the Kaldorei race, and handed over our ancient land to the mongrel dogs of the Alliance and Horde.
The Highborne cannot be restored without war. Enlightenment cannot grow back without the risk of upsetting the tradition-bound and complacent herd. And the Mongrel armies of the Horde and Alliance cannot be expelled from Kalimdor without bloodshed.
And humans aren´t?
As I said before, the only reason why people find draenei warlock more weird than human warlock is because human warlock has been a thing since Vanilla.
Aallal definitely doesn’t trust Fel and dark magic users for sure. Just as majority of ppl in the world I guess. However she is soldier and follows order. If order says that Warlock is an ally in this mission, she will oblige. That doesn’t mean she have to tolerate them in her city. Learning there is one there will not wake a nice reaction. I however understand that just killing someone in the street isn’t prolly the way to go and could lead to conflict with whoever the lock belonged to. (Based) In general Aallal considers Kaldorei and somewhat Gilneans as the only real allies of Draenei and have sympathy for them.
Tbh, is that your character’s opinions? Looks interesting, wouldn’t mind to see you in the world (Aallal will mind :P).
Well, looks like it has been retconed since Light infused guy can use Fel now.
And that’s the problem, every race is being turned into fancy looking humans, boring copies of each other. Fortunately it looks that Draenei warlockism is mostly Broken thing, looking at the trainer.
This is instead unfortunate, broken getting used as an excuse to give draenei certain classes is a cheap way to dodge actually writing any basic reason why they pick that class up.
Draenei shamans have always felt goofy and out of place because of this and now warlock can join them.
Well, I understand the reasoning and better writing behind the new class option would definitely be better. With better writing we would have more clear idea about what it means to be this of this race and the race’s development. It is fan service for sure, but Legion could do both fan service and writing. However I have already seen some interesting characters with the new options. So, while it is out of place and makes the races more boring and generic, especially with such cheap excuses, I’m willing to engage with interesting characters, people make out of it. I am not super creative myself so I appreciate creativity, as it can inspire me. (Or I can “nationalize” the idea XD)
I’d say I find it weirder because the draenei are more united in purpose than the humans.
Draenei have been destroyed while being tempted by fel all the time, for thousands of years. What prevented them from breaking and being assimilated was their faith in the message of the Light, one that has been antithetical to the acceptance of fel.
So why is suddenly ok to embrace it? It doesn’t make any sense to me.
We can ask the Sargerei about that, or any number of the Evil League of Azeroth factions that Draenei have been joining since they migrated to the planet.
There is no hivemind or collective that stops any playable race from making reckless or bad decisions. You’d think the Draenei would be above that but we even see Draenei necromancers back in Wrath, and it’s been that way since then.
Is this gonna be a repeat of that other warlock thread where your only purpose was to drop hollow claims and snappy one-liners without actually reading or trying to understand any post
