New Realm Connections are Underway

true. i’ve just become a cynic over the last 9 years when it comes to their actions :frowning:

Btw, they’ve been connecting those 2 russian realms and those 4 german realms tonight, at 1 a.m. (so 2h ago) they were already on it, probably will be ready around 4, when servers come back up, or in a few hours, they were offline during connection.

Also, the site that mage earlier linked (raider io on realm section) seems pretty good, I’m liking these numbers more than wow progress ones.

@Trelw: what do you think about these numbers? Merging anub’arak with aman’thul, according to raider io, is 38k + 30k characters (must be a total char ever made ofc), so 68k total, and aegwynn has 70k, does it seem reasonable to you that 2 realms like these would reach aegwynn population combined?

@Esploratore: Your question has no easy answer, because two realms that have identical populations could have vastly different levels of activity and two realms with identical activity could have vastly different levels of population. On connected realms it is even more complicated, because the different parts function differently. Also, as per my check a little bit back, the realms being connected were not visible at all on the German realm list. So still work in progress.

is there a list of what realms are proposed to be linked? would be interesting to see where you might be going.

@Vintoleth: Blizzard has not published a plan. I have posted a few possible scenarios in my earlier posts in this thread.

But if I recall in the past you had numbers for pretty much all realms, as in how many online at what time, and that way we could compare and see if anub’arak + aman’thul = aegwynn, roughly!

Didn’t you do any census in recent times?

Also I have a feeling the connections failed! Cause realms are back up but I couldn’t send a mail from todeswache to die natchwache, and I’ve seen complaints both on german and russian forums.

@Esploratore: You might want to a look at this sorry state of affairs:

Only 30 alliance factions and 35 horde factions have ANY data… and EVERYTHING is in the red… Even Draenor, Silvermoon and so on… I can not magic guesses from zero data… Well, I could, but it would be pointless… :frowning: As for me personally… I uploaded some data today, but not on the realms affected.

@Esploratore: Oh boy, not good at all. :frowning:

Ah, ok, I actually had noticed and yes, it’s pretty bad upload wise, cause they say red = bad, and yellow or another color = good, but the only realms having any data at all are marked as red, so there’s literally not a realm with good representation and if you want my opinion this is due to blizzard “breaking” censusplus, as in it’s no longer as automated as it was, this demotivates people for sure, it did so for me.

As for the failed connection, it’s annoying, yes, was looking forward to see new ones, atm I’m checking on those forums to see if there’s some news from blizzard but haven’t seen anything so far.

@Esploratore: Actually, it is worse than bad… In addition to myself only FIVE other registered users have uploaded any data this month and not all of us play EU…

I am sure they will try again, but if it was a really big problem, it might take a week or two to resolve… :frowning: Hopefully they at least figured out what went wrong… deep sigh

Yes, I blame blizzard again though, cause if I recall when censusplus was working fully automatically there were a lot more uploads on that site.

And indeed, I kind of made my plans based on these connections, I need to delete these chars and remake them on higher realms, so a delay isn’t exactly ideal, I like levelling several dks together, this way many are left behind.

Without a reliable way to check out numbers bar normal who’s, btw, I like raider io sufficiently, it sounds quite realistic, gonna use that over wow progress for population, and definitely over that other site, wow population, cause if a site says silvermoon is 3x more populated than ravencrest there’s something wrong!

Can someone please explain this to me? I thought the realms were already dynamically merged, because you often see players with different realm names in-game.

@Esploratore: Yes, there was a LOT more data available when things were simpler (and FASTER).

WRP is currently somehow utterly broken as it is listing everything on all realms as horde… Silvermoon most certainly does not have 95 468 horde and ZERO alliance… :D:D:D

@Yskas: Cross Realm Zones (CRZ) are something very different and CRZ is active on both single and connected realms and any CRZ shard can contain people from both single and connected realms.

I’m still confused, didn’t crossrealm address this issue years ago already?

@Yskas: Connecting enables trading, joining guilds and other factors that are realm internal. CRZ mainly makes it possible for a smaller number of shards to contain all characters and limited ability to do things together.

I will try to make an example…

Your friend plays on a realm that is NOT connected to your realm. You can group up with him or her, you can complete quests together, enter dungeons and battlegrounds, etc, thanks to CRZ. But you can NOT give or receive gold, bags and joining a guild on a non-connected realm is impossible. You also can not access AH of a non-connected realm.

Connecting is effectively a merge with a small handful of differences, the most important of which are that character lists are still realm specific and you retain your name with your realm working as your “surname”. For example, the connected group that contains Defias Brotherhood has more than one character called “Dora”, only one of which is mine. If you wish to contact that character of mine and your character is alliance on say, Sporeggar, which is connected to Defias Brotherhood (and other realms), you have to /whisper “Dora-DefiasBrotherhood” to reach me. If you do not, you would try to contact any possible alliance character called “Dora” on Sporeggar instead.

Trelw already gave a good explanation regarding crz vs connected realms, and if you’re talking about connected realms back in 2013-2014, I personally thought population was sufficiently decent atm, but blizzard (and many people) don’t think so, hence they’re trying a 2nd round of connections.

Depends where, your and my realms are fine, but low population realms are pretty barren atm. There the AH is dead and people don’t have good guilds to join.

Maybe you’re misunderstanding: I play on basically all realms and I never saw such a thing as a dead server, even the smallest have a handful of guilds, maybe it’s cause I’m playing casually atm, as in not raiding, cause I noticed some realms have like 10-12 guilds, that’s not a lot for progress.

Also, german servers still didn’t get a blue post but russian got a

“Dear friends!
As you might have noticed, the Borean tundra and Black Scar are not yet united. We are working to make this happen as soon as possible.
Thank you for understanding.”

if you google translate it to english.

Also an update, looks like the aman’thul-anub’arak connection went through, read something along those lines on german forums, logged in, made sure to check for the actual realm and not the crz in who and indeed, some people from anub’arak and others appear, so that one is done, todeswache and russians still not done so far.

This one?

As for the German realms it seems like they’re having issues there, with one of the mergers done but some people reporting their guild no longer exists and such.

Yes, that one indeed. So 3 connections but only 1 went through.
