We now have totally different content and totally different playerbase. If the pre Legion system was in place, gear would be gated behind end game raiding or behind an RNG gearpiece once per week.
All these “borrowed powers” would be on a gearpiece or gear set that 60% of the playerbase would never be able to aquire. So gear power became legendaries with artifact power or corruption or conduits etc…
Now gear is only for stats (except trinkets rings and legendaries) and can be easily distributed to the whole playerbase through any content.
If you guys do not like this, you better either stop playing this game, or go play classic wow because what you are asking for is already live on Classic
I dont even know why they complain about the borrowed system as if it didn’t revive wow with legion. Wasn’t wow almost dead after wod? The system is simply necessary for an old game like this to keep it fresh.
Bfa was a case of blizz over did it, but shadowlands in current state is still healthy enough, just dont add another “corruption”.
I am one of those that absolutely loved corruption tbh, but thats my personal preference and i understand that some didn’t like it. I love trading for power.
People just don’t like grinding. May that be anima, artifact power, soul ash or whatever. But grinding is crucial for a progressing based game.
My only objection to all of these systems is that they are never balanced at start. Getting 35 anima from doing a WQ for example when you need 1.5k for upgrading your sanctum is just… bad math on behalf of Blizzard. They made this mistake on previous expansions as well and they keep doing it.
My only suggestions so far in SL are 2:
#1. Increase the anima gain from all sources. #2. Make it easier to switch between covenants. Progression from covenants (renown and conduits) should be permanent.
I do think we need an max level progression system. WoW has long passed the simple gear system.
Legion’s artifact weapon was a good experiment, and it was the most flexible one. anyone can acquire the weapons for all specs and switch freely.
BFA’s azerite gear and SL’s covenant is like a downgrade version and much more restrictive, especially covenant lockout.
One big problem of the borrowed power is the huge imbalance that blizzard never managed to solve.
An more important problem is that, since the introduction of borrowed power system, a class/spec’s basic abilities have been dumbed down, because the design is that you need certain azerite/essence/covenant/ or whatever to complete your class/spec.
That is why people think MoP class deisgn was the most fun, unique while balanced. And today, if you play a class/spec with different with wrong covenant/power, it is simply too imbalanced and unfun. There seems to be choice and customization, but there is no meaningful choice in reality.
The simple old glyphs system is better than any borrowed power system we have in SL.
Yeah, i understand why u like corruption cause its like unlimited power and can be fun and chaotic =))) corruption is fine on its own but it was added too late on top of the mess that is azerite armor and essense, one is solely based on rng the other requires grind across all contents, corruption got better with vendor later on but once again too late, the damage was done.
It is so hard to see your perspective cause if anything SL is trying to mimic the legion system not BFA’s.
The balance issue is of every expansion not specifically of SL or BFA. And blizz gonna have to learn to balance their game, and use the right strategy if they want longetivity, but the suggestion from your op simply don’t fix anything but probably kill the game.
Some classes have a bunch of viable conduits, some classes like Warlocks have mostly jank
Like my class druid has 1 finesse conduit that actually changes your gameplay, the other are just super minor qol stuff, most potency conduits are set in stone and very boring too
