New Spell/skill Mechanic

I just posted in the “New Class” topic and I was wondering on your thoughts on a new spell/skill mechanic. At the moment everything is based on a pool of resources you spend to do certain types of spells: mana, focus, runes etc.

Spells could be described as: over-time | instant | aoe | single target
Then we have: damage | heal | utility

Do you think a new thing is possible in WoW without the resource mechanic or something other than the damage-heal-utility spells? I think the absorb and stagger mechanics are something interesting and bring something different to the table.

I think the way Windwalker spells work where you get bonuses if the next spell is a new spell is something that can be used instead of a resource pool but I am not sure how, and it seems as if it would be too restrictive.
So any thoughts? Any new ideas?

We managed with out for a long time. I hate what they did with Ret.

Pets being pets not just glorified DoT effect …

I think a pet based skill system would be a nice experiment. I am not sure how the resource replacement system would work. Maybe a hybrid GCD and Single CD system while one pet is doing something you have to use the other one, like some telepathy thing, or the many times mentioned tinker class.
