New to healing ! which healer?

Hi all,
Ive played the game since vanilla but never really played the healer role,
i fancy picking it up in TWW for M+ …what healer would everyone recommend to learn the ropes in season 1 ?

TIA

Probably hpriest or rsham for a easier learning curve, but as always, play what you enjoy, thats most important.

Pick the healer whose playstyle matches your preferences the best. Preemptive vs reactive, ranged vs. melee, etc. All the healers have distinctive playstyles, even within their own healing specs.

I originally played priest (up to WotLK), then druid (up to SL), now shaman. I like shaman because it’s a reactive healer and I love all the utility (interrupt, stun, stop, totems for various cases, heroism/BL). Others may not want the utility (comes at the cost of having to use it!) or prefer more mobility (druid) or a battle rez, and so on.

I’d also consider the other specs of your chosen class as you’ll most likely fall back on those at times. Druid, monk and paladin give you access to all roles, druid to all four styles.

If I didn’t love resto shaman, I’d probably play druid again.

Thats completely fine ofcourse :slightly_smiling_face: in that case its down to your preference, as Life said.

Druid and Disc are generally seen as harder to master because of the proactive playstyle, meaning you really need to know when damage is coming and prepare accordingly, and then theres Paladin and monk as melee healers, which is also a very different style of playing.
Preservation is strong but they tend to suffer from range issues and Holy priest is, together with rsham, usually regarding as the best entry level healer, best suited for learning how to heal and getting the hang of the role in general.

Paladin. Good allround class and you have DD and Tank spec at hand if needed.

I found disc simple enough in the past.
Just throw out some atonements and then dps away to heal them up.
But its been over an expansion since i played one so might be harder now, dunno.

If you wanna play melee go MW Monk.

If ranged Resto Druid is a solid pick for early and late game.

I’d start with: do you want other options in your class, e.g. tanking? If so, you’re limited to a smaller choice. Then do you want to melee whilst healing? Again that limits it if you do. Then do you want to be able to react instantly to incoming damage, or happy having to plan and have some HOT’s ready like a druid. Are you happy with an extra resource to manage like a pally, or would like lots of utility, plus fun shapeshifting like a druid. Then the lore / feel of the class, and finally do you want to be in plate or happy to be a bit more squishy. I’ve healed as all of the healer classes except evoker, and I’ve loved them all, so I don’t think you can go wrong if you like healing in general. Personally I’ve always preferred druid and paladin.

Great explanation :+1: I think I’m edging towards druid, mainly because I am a experienced m+ usually pushing high keys so I know to learn the dungeons damage output ect… I was edging towards evoker but was put off by the range issue and from what people say the spec can be a bit complicated to learn.

Thanks :+1:

Evoker is genuinely not that difficult to learn–it’s just slightly different, but once you read up on the synergy of your skills it’s actually fairly easy to master, with a very decent kit for M+. The only real issue of prevoker is the range and the fact that some of your trademark skills heavily rely on everyone being in front of you.

Normally I would recommend a shaman, but as you said you’re not interested in that I would say druid is my next suggestion. Much like a prevoker it has great mobility without sacrificing range. The only downside is that with so many hots you need to predict heavy damage windows, but that’s true for every healer to a varying degree.

Prevoker are not that bad. It’s annoying but is not the end of the world, you have also a tools to get over that range issues if the time demands it.

Idk what kind people you talked to but PreEvoker is really not a complicated spec to learn once you actually sit down to read out your toolkit and do some test yourself.

Echo is really a fun spell to play around.

Range issue can be easily minimized by good players, and its not very complicated!

Thanks everyone, I’m going to try evoker if I don’t get on with it I’ll just go druid

evoker, holy priest, holy paladin, restoration shaman.

I started playing healing with resto shaman and it’s a very good and all around healer to learn how things works. Hots instant heals , aoe healing, and a lot of utility. To be honest the a lot of utility kinda bothers me when I wanna just to focus on healing. You can do some nice damage (for healers always) with resto shamy plus you can always change to elemental with the same gear.
This expansion I wanna try holy pala cause I like how it heals, big strong heals. I would just like for hpala to have 1 hot

If we would talk about raids I would agree on holy priest. For M+ Id say people underestimate some issues with holy priest that you have to overcome to actually be a good healer in m+.

In DF season 2 and 3 I even felt disc to be more easy to play effective than holy. In raid its a whole different story because of ramping windows.

For someone new to healing I would say go with someone that has more reliable aoe heal or effective HoTs.

Maybe resto shami or druid.
