I am a longtime player, but I’ve rarely dipped my toes into healing specs for long. Recently I’ve discovered that where I tend to grow resentful of PvE healing, PvP is another story entirely. I kind of like it… but this is also where things get a bit dicey.
See I’m a bit of a contrarian where FOTM specs are concerned. Currently I’m enjoying playing my priest quite a lot, despite not being universally beloved. I play whatever I like, usually regardless of where they rank in the min/max landscape.
This doesn’t quite fly with PvP healing though. I know Discipline is the default spec for a priest healer, but is holy just… rubbish in comparison? I ask because I just cannot seem to wrap my head around the spec in a way that makes sense. I can heal, but not nearly well enough for comfort. I tend to avoid the spec in PvE as well, resorting instead to holy for all my healing needs.
tl;dr Is holy viable as a PvP healer, or am I left with either being a mediocre discipline priest, or roll another class entirely?
Holy is in a very good spot in all types of content atm - both pve and pvp. Its considered the best healer for 2v2 and 3v3, and while disc is better for bgs, holy isnt bad there either.
In regards to feeling that you cant heal “nearly well enough for comfort”, that most likely has to do with other factors like gear, skill, teammates and so on. It is very brutal to play healer in shadowlands - even with full gear you’ll still end up in situations where your healing just doesnt feel sufficient.
Talent choices are also very crucial, especially as disc. Id strongly recommend playing with masochism, twist of faith, ultimate radiance (pvp talent) and without trinity (pvp talent), if you end up trying disc more.
Since 60-70% of healers in 2s/3s above 2100+ rating are holy priests, Id say that holy is not rubbish in comparison and that it is indeed viable. But im just a gnome, my brain is small so maybe i dont know
I’d just heard from various people that priests (holy especially) weren’t in high demand at all in Shadowlands. I’m thrilled at the prospect of them being wrong!
Oh absolutely true, and skill is definitely a cornerstone where disc is concerned. I might give it another go with your suggestions though.
