Newcomer Guide system should be account-wide

Hi there!

I’m Niato (and originally known as Liue) from Silvermoon and I’ve been a volunteer WoW Guide in Newcomer chat for 1,5-years on both the Alliance and the Horde.

To be honest, I love what I do. Newcomer chat has always been a fun place to be. Not just you are able to offer a non-toxic environment for the new players and guiding them through their first steps in the game, but you also do have a chance to get new friends and chat basically about everything with the Newcomers and with the other Guides.

However, the biggest issue that annoys is me is that being a Guide is not account-wide. In order to be able to help the Newcomers you have to be logged in to level 60 character with Guide status. That means that in case you are leveling your alts, for example, you are unable to be in the Newcomer chat as a Guide as your current alt does not fill the level requirement (level 60). What I think Blizzard should do - and actually, I think majority of us volunteer Guides share the same thought - is to make it totally account-wide so we could level up our under level 60 characters and still spend our time by helping the new players! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Anyways, just sharing my ideas. Let us help the Newcomers with all of our characters instead of requiring us to become Guides separately with each level 60 characters. :innocent: I would love to help, even during leveling!

I don’t know if it is true but I’ve heard about people who became guides so they could kick new players from their dungeons. If that’s the case then as sad as it is it might be better if levelers don’t know who’s new and who isn’t.

I have personally never heard any Newcomer saying something like this. If this is true tho, it is absolutely disgusting and these persons should not be Guides at all.

A while ago Blizzard did remove basically all the requirements for what comes of be coming a Guide. When previously you had to, alongside being level 60 and been completed minimum of 3000 quests, do some achievements e.g. clear Castle Nathria (LFR was fine), clear Torghast, do some Rated PVP or M+ etc. now only thing you gotta do is to completed 3000 quests. I seriously think it is unfortunate as this has opened doors for some trolls such as possible people you just mentioned to become Guides. I wish Blizzard would add some requirements in 9.2 so we would have Guides whom are experienced and doing this entirely because they wish to help without benefits.

I don’t think requirements would really help. Like almost anyone who does endgame content can do LFR eventually, it wouldn’t keep the toxic people away.

None of those things keep trolls away.

To do it properly they’d perform some kind of vetting on the people or get feedback from the new people but just because you’ve done lfr or rated pvp etc doesn’t mean you’re an upstanding member of the community.

Yup, I know this. But dropping requirements to 3000 quests only was a pretty odd move after all. Anyways, so far our chat has been by far most less toxic chat in whole game and that is why I like it so much. I truly hope it stays that way.

Hmmm…I think the original requirements including the character being lvl60, was Blizz trying to:

  1. Make it more likely the player acting as a Guide, was genuinely capable of fulfilling the role.

  2. Make it less likely Trolls would get involved, because of the effort that was required and the risk of one of their high lvl Alts being sanctioned.

  3. Give re-assurance to new Players that their Guide probably knew what they were talking about.

  4. A Guide leveling up an Alt Class/Spec they were unfamiliar with, did not get distracted.

Yes,

You are so right about this. I still think tho that once you have fulfilled the requirements, it would help us Guides so, so much if Guide system would be account-wide. I play several characters and love leveling, questing, seeing the lore and so on - it is sad that I am forced to be sitting with my main in case I wish to focus for helping Newcomers.
