Next Gen graphics to WoW? keeping the current art&design and little Pixar/Animated 4k crisp Unreal engine 5 look?

NO i dont mean realistic look, no way!!! they should keep the look but do it in 4k crisp/animated pixar style, look at kena : bridge of spirits, that game is in UE4 imagine UE5 :)

It still runs quite well on older PC. The problem with Shadowlands at least for me is that my FPS can drop quite low even on a very decent computer. I don’t know what they messed up, but the point is that you can play the game very comfortably on low-end PC, unlike newer games.

Pixar style =/= WoW style. Let the game keep it’s art style. I looked at Kena and I don’t want this game to look anything like it.

I put 0 value in the graphics of this game outside of ‘maybe they should update older models’
I like the cartoony style and would prefer they stuck with it.

ffxiv is still on directx 11 and doing fine while wow is on directx12 . if you want unreal engine 5 you will have to wait for wow 2 .

probably look if the shadow setting is enabled .those are the number one culprits in shadowlands for less fps .

One of those things that has always confused me, vegan or vegetarian bacon.

Could once be run on a calculator. Not since …Mists, for sure.

Shadwolands already showed us that graphical fidelity is much better and more sought after than plain “better” graphics. Yeah, sure, SL looks good, but at the cost of purely avoidable performance issues, spaghetti code and general bloat on an engine that is pretty old and barely holds up. Mind you, people love the WoW artstyle, hence why WoW Classic was so popular despite the graphics. IMHO, if Blizzard gave as much thought and care to gameplay as they gave to graphics, we would probably have a much better game.

It runs perfectly now after some changes I’ve made about a week ago and it did absolute wonders. Used to run between 80-100FPS and dropping all the way down to low 30s at times, but now it doesn’t go below 120FPS. Interestingly it had little to do with in-game graphics settings.

Funnily enough, I put shadows higher than they were before.

Would be nice to make it look more crisp like overwatch, nothing about the art style should change.

it’s interesting. the game now is so successful, that upgrade the engine to improve graphic and so cullling a vast majority of the players, is for sure a good idea.

the next big change would be nice doin it more 4k crispi look, keep the art and do it more detailed , overwatch look rly nice yes indeed

OP sorry shot of realism for you the one reason why this game has been successful in the past is that it was accessible to a hugely varied amount of hardware and was able to be played on most PCs due to that. The kind of idiocy you seem to want in the way of graphics would take out over 75% of the people who could potentially play the game also other things to consider you would need to retrain the entire team to make things in a new engine and then on top of that all the stuff in the game currently would have to be done from the ground up and that would not be cheap.

As others have said there has been a shut down of the major chip foundries in Asia and this is due to Covid the estimates of catch up on production is the end of 2022 or potentially 2023 being the point where things are normalized but also these plants make chips for every single consumer electronic device imaginable so there is a tight schedule to who gets what slot for production of what product and there are only 12 months in each year and some companies have greater importance in having chips first than the two who make GPU’s for consumer PC’s and that is just a hard reality of how things have changed since Covid hit the world outright.

Also, the unreal engine has massive stability issues and a lot of games or redo’s of games look awful on it and look like they have had the lifeblood sucked out of them all for lighting effects and trying to make something look better when it was pretty good in the first place.

This kind of thing comes up on here time and again and as much as it would be great to have a new graphical engine and so on the costs are not viable in the climate now and even when it may have been possible there was a high chance that it would not go down well by limiting access by the spec needed in order to run the game.

Compare Vanilla (not classic) and SL, you’ll see it very differently.

Like most of these posts it’s down to art style. Blizzard have upgraded the graphics consistently.

While you admit that it needs to keep it’s cartoonish style there’s also not one single cartoon style. The style Blizzard have chosen is very particular to blizzard. If they made it look like a Pixar movie then just like real life graphics it wouldn’t look like WoW.

I’m not sure what you think 4k would make any difference. Again WoW art style isn’t super-detailed. The actual number of people who have actual 4k machines is probably very low; the Battle.net app sends your specs so they know exactly what systems people are running.

Unreal 5, yip this again:
But WoW engine was released in 2004… Yes, it was and has been upgraded extensively since then. It now supports DX12, 64 bit, multithreading and recently raytracing. Do you really think that Epic started each version of Unreal from scratch, nope they added to the existing engine.

Unreal is a general engine it’s not made for a specific purpose. Blizzard have their own engine and it’s made ONLY for an MMO, their MMO, they can do what they want with it with no worries of upsetting an interestingly litigious Epic. Unreal can do X and Y because it can and WoW game engine can’t mainly because Blizzard don’t want that. When they want something then they add it. WoW needs to work on toasters, and is does. (Definition of toaster can vary between expansions.)

I think the biggest problem I have with games using Unreal is that they look very samey. You can usually look at a character model and tell what engine it’s using.

Black Desert Online, Final Fantasy 14 and WoW have their own engines and you can tell that as they have very distinctive character models and art style.

Maybe one day Blizzard will overhaul the graphics engine - but if they do it’ll retain that Blizzard look not the Pixar look.

They have to do that for a console release anyways, if they ever will do one (which would be financially a good idea for extra profit).

That is a total you-problem. If you want to play on a garbage PC for 20 years, that is your problem. By now modern hardware does not cost that much. My current gaming laptop from 3 years ago, which did cost 1000€ back then should now be sold on like 500€ already…

You would be surprised how many players go for eye-candy instead of gameplay.

BioWare made absolutely cool RPGs like Knights of the old Republic back then. Even as a Star Wars lover, I would never play that game because it looks garbage compared to modern games. Same with most “classics”.

If they would make a proper overhaul instead of doing a DLC every 2 years, they could fix a lot of their problems, like the engine for example.

Nope, the graphics are fine just the way they are now.

So essentially you want to make the already dwindling playerbase not only purchase the expansion, pay the subs but to buy an overpriced PC in a market where parts are somewhat hard to come by… I cannot see this going wrong.

Unreal engine does not fit the WoW theme at all imo, hate it.

So hard pass from me.

Sooo what did you do ?

eh i rather they just update the old content to be on the same level as the current expansion :stuck_out_tongue: graphically i’m sure there are some people who would love to have HD versions of certain old armors

perfect in my opinion, the better graphicaly details in game the more enjoyable :)
