does it not feel like it’s time to update the graphics properly until the next expansion? reached in the style of, next gen unreal engine 5, it retains cartoon lookish but with 4k and a bit like a pixar / disney movie / Kena bridge of spirits. or I do not know? when i play shadowlands it feels like it lacks that real wow effect you get when you see something new really nice game being released. it feels like 10 years old graphically. I think the game itself is great fun but I think many would resume playing wow if there were big changes in future expansions, what do you think ??
Too much work for too little pay-off.
You’d lose a lot of players (like me) running older equipment.
You wouldn’t gain many new players as it’s still an older game.
They are struggling to put out actual content as it is without adding a huge workload just to stand still (albeit in a better looking landscape).
Computers are selling better now than ever, consoles are doing the same, there are long waits for new components and consumers are willing to pay more money for new components than they have done before, now that we have entered a new generation, people are completely desperate to get hold of next gen components, so the development of new materials and looks like the graphics, has always made the market move forward, and game makers are making more money than ever on new developments.
curb your first world privileged consumer electronic spending habits please…
majority of world cant afford a 250 dollar phone and you talking like 2000$ gaming pcs are a common occurence
I still occasionally get the graphics card warning on my older machine, so I would be against this.
Anyway, the prices of cards has shot through the roof during the covid crisis.
I like the graphics the way they are now
There’s no need to exclude everyone who has a weak computer for something that would make WoW lose that little bit of “special” that is has now: it’s simple, yet very nice graphics
You do realize that there are shortages of chips?
Cards that were historically 300e now cost 800e for crying out loud.
Anyway, it’s too much of a work. It’s easier to make new game than to overhaul game with 17 years of content.
Havent had one of these threads for a while.
“I have money to burn…”
yes exactly it is chip shortage, but it does not make consumers less willing to buy new, you could make the next expansion area is like a next gen area that contains everything new with maxed with UE5 and in the old areas can you keep the old look, but with a higher texture on your character, so you can redo all cities where you are most with maxed UE5, such as orgrimmar and stormwind, and the other main citys in all expansions etc
you have to redo the game a little at a time until it becomes a whole UE5 game, you have to give it a few years, so you start with a new expansion with it and then the development continues at a steady pace
How you run two engines at same time lol. Also we don’t know how UE5 will perform in mmo, UE4 was horrible.
The chip shortages are due to factories shutting down because of COVID, not because more people are buying. It’s going to take years to catch up, maybe even longer with China shutting down factories again before the Olympics to get rid of the smog that they then can claim don’t exist.
Yes, we’ve all drooled over the UE renditions of Elwynnn and the like, and it is possible to retain the art style with shinier graphics, but frankly WoW have improved massively over the years and look pretty good imho.
I’d rather they put their resources into optimising their game, it does not run as well as it should and I’m frankly afraid to think how that would worsen if they stuffed it with even fancier graphics.
Let them make it take proper advantage of our current hardware before we lose ourselves in fantasies of the future…
Gameplay > Graphics
Also: bacon > not bacon
think blizzard can do it very well, so that it looks like UE5, but with a different engine maybe or something similar. it would have been really cool anyway
regualr price for the rtx 3080 super whats comes out 2022 will cost nearly 3000 euros becurse eletronic componets raw matrials price goes up alone 60% in 2022 …
uhrg no thanks. unreal engine games tend to age horribly and look rather generic. i much rather prefer wows current style.
world of warcraft 2 Virtual reality
The art style makes the game what it is and it’s beautiful in it’s own way. I wouldn’t like a “realistic” looking version of WoW. Plus the fact that the game can run on a calculator is what makes it so accessible to everyone.
Engine doesn’t determinate visual style whatsoever.
That would be true before shadowlands.
I’d rather have new content.
