For those that never played it - in ESO you can use all armor types appearances as transmog(light, medium, heavy) on a character, but the armor types are still in the game for gameplay aspects and builds.
We are currently getting a lot of “cosmetic” type of transmogs, which allow us to look a little different than just typical Plate class in plate armor for example, so it would be nice if Blizzard did the same with all armor types being available for transmog, you would just switch the tab from “Plate” to “Leather” for example in transmogrification tab.
Oh yeah, there also some problems with that like you mentioned, but maybe working out something in the middle, because right now there are some weird restrictions like i can’t use warsong WoD gear on my warrior or frostwolf for example.
Class icons on nameplates probably would be a good QoL feature.
I played good chunk of gw2 but not sure i remember this feature correctly - From what i remember there are some items like in WoW “cosmetic” type, that unlock appearances for all armor types.
Basically if you loot cloth on your plate char you unlock that cloth as mog options for your cloth chars.
Most obvious example of this would be the lucky fishing hat from the gurubashi fishing competition that many have but likely not on actual cloth wearing characters.
Yeah i don’t see why if you get an item or cosmetic token that you shouldn’t be able to learn it on any character and add it to your collection. The restirctions would still be there for usage of the appearance E.G. Cloth can only use cloth etc but learning it shouldn’t be restricted.
I’d like to see more customization with colours too rather than just set recolours of everything. I remember back in GW2 that you could create dye’s and use them to colour your gear and really make it nice (don’t kwow if you still can as i have not played it for years). I’d love to see something like that in WoW.
both eso and gw2 have wardrobe, which is basically costumes . wow can add that and focus on adding better costumes like those in both games . it would be easier than changing the whole tmog system
Well, I wouldn’t expect that to happen too soon. And your comparison with ESO… it wasn’t really thought through that well. In ESO your character actually can wear all types of armour, regardless of your class, or weapon, or playstyle, or anything. And different armour types provide different mechanical benefits there, so it isn’t too unlikely to see a mage in light, or medium, or heavy armour, or even in some impractically mixed pieces, depending on what said mage is doing. Transmogrification restrictions wouldn’t bear a lot of sense in ESO in the first place.
But in WoW, armour restrictions do exist exclusively for cosmetic purposes – for your class identity, in particular. I mean, we have a thing called class sets there, visually distinctive, but “plate” armour still doesn’t give you any more protection or any different stats than “cloth” armour, as any player that ever tried WoW PvP or PvE would most certainly confirm.
Which means, this final leap that you’re suggesting, it is considerably more wide than you’re probably thinking of it. WoW team would first need to completely abandon a lot of things that their current design pursues. And, well, it wasn’t that long ago when they reintroduced class sets, so if anything, they are actively moving in opposite direction.
Oh, ESO, the game I quit the instant they decided to make my golden armor I had farmed to become seagrass green/purple… so they could sell the mog on their store instead. Yeah. No, leave ESO and whatever system they got out of here. Because they have no respect for your time.
I don’t care what whatever ESO is doing right, because they did that one thing - and that was what had me quit.
