This is my first form post sorry if I made in mistakes in the set up or if it too insignificant of a topic to be posted here.
I’m playing a night elf hunter and starting to get crossbows and guns as quests rewards, but I don’t feel like they fit night elves, RP-wise. These crossbows and guns are starting to get better and better then my bow that I am holding on to for the RP’s sake. I don’t have the money to have to start buying better bows from the AH. I’m very conflicted on what to compremise on, the RP or gameplay, these quests are getting harder and harder. Any ideas on how I can maybe starting using crossbows and guns while still keep the integrity of the RP?
P.S. The reason I don’t think crossbows and guns don’t fit my night elf is because she has trained hundreds of years to master the bow and I find it hard to see her suddenly switch to, what is in the night elves opinion, inferior and lazy guns and crossbows.
You can always transmog your crossbow / gun to the bow of your choosing via the NPCs in various capital cities or the transmog mount that people use now and then in open world. This obviously applies to all gear pieces, although, during leveling it will be real costly to keep up your appearance if you transmog every new piece you obtain.
Assuming you are new to the game, I’d like to say that if you want to play the game mainly for the Roleplay aspect, you are on the wrong realm (If you want more than just solo-roleplay adventuring while you level up). If you intend to Roleplay with others, I suggest you try and switch realms, moving to Argent Dawn for example which is a RP realm bustling with activity and is likely to be right up your alley.
Transmogrifying is the easiest, but it will cost you I have spent thousands of gold on transmogging…
Alternatively, you could integrate it in your RP/gameplay: “Argh, I hate this clumsy gun/crossbow, but I am stuck with it until I can afford the bow I want.”
If you don’t want to transmog every new weapon and really want to go with only bow (I always transmog to bow even on my Gnome which would be ideal with gun because I simply like the look so much better so I just have her liking bows more for reasons) have a spare one in your bag to equip when you rp? And transmog when you’re max lvl and have a decent one and won’t change for a while.
Speaking as a former historical reenactor, crossbows are actually really useful.
To use a longbow efficiently you’re looking at at least ten years of solid practice and training. You could teach a complete idiot to use a crossbow in ten minutes.
All you had to do was pull the drawstring into the nut, place the bolt in the groove, and you could sit with it loaded and ready for hours and hours, wait for someone to pop their head up over the castle wall, then you just push up on the hair trigger.
You couldn’t aim with a longbow (despite what movies would have you believe) because the pressure from the draw weight was too much for you to hold in place (90–110 pounds of force).
Sorry, that’s my little geek rant over
But yes if you’ve not a fan of crossbows in game, just transmog it into a bow
You mean you couldn’t take your time aiming with a longbow, I assume? Or were they only used when there was a large, dense gathering of enemies to fire into?
Smaller bows allow time for aiming, though, and if the arrow is dipped in poison, it doesn’t need to penetrate armor.
And crossbows need more time to reload than bows, don’t they?
You could see it as your night elf wanted to Master a new thing.
To become better at something then the lesser race’s.
Or make it so that she is using a crappy crossbow because there arent any good bowcrafting in the area.
Simply use the fact you cant buy a beter bow as rp reason why you are using a lesser weapon.
Because you need to get the money to get a beter one.
It’s actually lore friendly to use crossbows and guns. One of the hidden hunter weapon skins in Legion is an elven crossbow and a night elf in Stonetalon remarks that despite some people thinking otherwise, night elves do use guns as needed.
