Night Elf male classes lorewise (Does a male rogue make sense?)

Hello,

I like the Night Elf class a lot and wanted to create one, but don’t like the idea of playing a druid. In fact I find it a bit weird that the Night Elf class was very gender oriented in regards to classes in the past with the male being druids and female being warriors and hunters (usually it’s the other way around). Anyway, I know they’ve since then become a lot more lenient with the classes for both genders.

However, it does still bother me when I’m trying to create a Night Elf male (and I want it to be male for self insertion). Hence, I’m turning towards the more experienced players. I’ve heard of a couple of Night Elf male warriors in the lore, but just a couple - and demon hunters as well. I was wondering if there are ny Night Elf male rogues? And how common are they? In fact, are there any other common Night Elf classes for males than druids and demon hunters? What’s your take in general on this topic?

Thanks for your input!

Since the Night Elves have lost their immortality and especially since the Cataclysm, it seems that both genders have begun to step out of their traditional roles. Male night elves are training to become Sentinels, while female night elves are training to be druids.

So a male rogue makes sense

I started playing this year (although I bought the game back when Burning Crusade came out, but didn’t really play higher than lvl 10-15 back then). So, I’m curious, were they not always mortal in World of Warcraft - I mean the NPCs talk about the loss of immortality in the starting zone, so I assume that’s where the WoW mmorpg story starts (although I do understand the rest of the story originates from elsewhere). Also curious, what happened in the Cataclysm that caused them to train different roles?

They lost it during the Warcraft games. So yes their immortality was already lost when World of Warcraft started. They no longer have the traditional roles as Danellos mentioned. Females can be druid, males can be priests and sentinels.

That’s interesting. What about the Cataclysm? Why is it so special in this regard?

I think you may find interesting the description that you can find on Wowpedia, in the chapter dedicated to ‘Other forces and allies’ you can see how the role of the night elf rogue has been accepted as a fighter of the Alliance.

hope it can help you

This is one thing I kinda like, how in lore there was a change around Cataclysm in night elf society to be more liberal and allow more career paths, so indeed there are now female druids and male sentinels.

I think it was Cata where we actually saw the results with characters like Thisalee Crow. And also, this is when night elves could become mages, which was another thing that was forbidden before.

Ok then…

Aye, that was when the Shen’dralar Highborne arcanists who survived Eldre’Thalas were allowed to rejoin their people after the 10,000 years ban of magic which followed Aszhara’s deeds and the Great Sundering (which btw also caused other exiled night elf Highborne to eventually become High and then Blood elves).

Something wrong? :o

I don’t know how to quote others posts, but very interesting points indeed!

Also interesting to hear about Thisalee Crow that Lysende mentioned - I had never heard of her before. I just started reading Wowpedia for more information about the race in general. Lots of interesting stuff, and it appears Blizzard might even change their story in the future? By the looks of it they could just add another group of Night Elves that have been living in isolation somewhere.

The Cataclysm created numerous logistical issues for the Night Elf territories, especially because Darkshore was broken up pretty badly. The Night Elves were further forced to break their traditional roles in response to Garrosh’s incursion into Ashenvale.

Lore wise, I see.
